Pretty much. I enjoy a couple of quid now and then on a scorecast on the big games, but 80% of bookies profits on football comes from Scorecasts. Just shows you how stupid some folk are and you see it on the message boards too... guys sticking £20 on Zander to score first and the Dons to win 5-2 and things like that. Mug bets.

First rule of gambling Andrew; never, ever rely or expect gambling to pay for your debts. It'll make you desperate and you'll end up betting on ridiculous bets and when they lose it hits you hard. I hate to sound like an advert for Responsible Gambling, but betting is supposed to be fun (that's why I do it as well as making a decent amount from it - prior to this season anyway which has been shit), as soon as it's not fun you've got a problem.

Crikey! Stop the presses!! Perhaps an idea to keep your idea out for this stable's horses:

Peach. Surprised no one's mentioned Rico v Torino.

I had considered that one too Sharpie, not a typical goal for us to score at that time in that it came from a long ball but it was beautiful!

Agree with FJ that Gilhaus's overhead kick at East End was rather special. Another one at East End was one of Jess's the day he got four. Brilliant one-two with Gilhaus and then dummied the defenders and keeper and sent the ball rolling into the corner. Couple of crackers at Parkhead too; Brian Grant's 20 yard half volley was an exquisite piece of skill and technique. John Stewart's winner there a few years ago was rather special too. (EDIT: Can't believe I've mentioned John Stewart in the same post as Gilhaus, Jess, Grant, Shearer and McDougall ) A couple of Shearer's strikes were breathtaking too, particularly enjoyed his strike v United which effectively relegated them. Think I'd have to go for Eoin Jess's strike at Ibrox (the finish was amazing but his first touch taking the ball out the sky like that was sensational) as the best I've seen first hand and Frank McDougall's third in his hat trick against Hearts in 85 as the best I've only seen the recording of.

As the title suggests, what is the best Dons goal ever in your opinion? John Hewitt's diving header is obviously the most important (or thereabouts) but what do you think the best is, either technically or aesthetically? Can split it between Dons goals you've witnessed first hand from ones you've just seen on TV.

The Guardian claims that Sky are preparing a "£90m rescue package" to take the rights to the SPL. It's a fair bit short on what Setanta were offering but I'd bite their hand off. If we're on Sky regularly then hopefully that's an added plus point when it comes to getting more money from sponsors due to the larger (potential) audience. According to their report we may go back to playing games on Sunday evenings though, or Saturday lunchtimes (not much change there).

Could well be the making of him though. At times I didn't think Severin was very mature in the way he conducted himself on the pitch - a lot of mumping and moaning much akin to that of a 3 year old who's not getting ice cream after dinner, so I'd be willing to give Zander a shot at it. If he doesn't get it then it may well have a rather negative impact on his morale.

Pssst, get in my car young boy....

Michael Hart came through around Ebbe's time, and obviously we had to buy him back but other than Anderson I think he's the best we've had come through since the days of Jess and Booth. It's a very hard thing for supporters to gauge. It may well be that JC just wasn't interested in playing youths, or it may be that the youths coming through just weren't good enough. It's also not entirely true to say that because none of them have gone on to anything better we were right to let them go. Young players develop differently when put into the first team and all of a sudden have seasoned pros next to them rather than their young, inexperienced peers. Would Eoin Jess have been the player he was if he hadn't had the experience of playing beside both Charlie Nicholas and Hans Gillhaus so early in his career? I think Leighton favoured Esson over Preece because (stop giggling at the back) even for all his faults, Esson had better reactions than Preece. I am no fan of either, but the few decent memories I have of Esson (one save in particular against Celtic in what I believe was the Centenary Game was absolutely outstanding) are all of him making point blank saves, not dis-similar to the great man himself at his peak. Esson's mistakes mainly seemed to be when he had too much time to think about things ie dropping a corner into his own net v the huns. Preece improved greatly in his time with us, but I never thought he moved his feet quickly enough along his line, his positioning was extremely questionable (Riordan for Hibs at Pittodrie springs to mind) and his decision making likewise. -

A group from my office are being taken to Silverstone at the weekend, free drinks all day etc. I hate motor sport, it's dull as fuck as far as I'm concerned but would quite like to have experienced being there. Ok, I wanted to go for the freebies.

Yes. We were happy to hold out for a deal with Sky on less money as the long term earnings would have been greater and of much less risk.

That would be a fair coup and would also stick it right up Hertz. -

As much as I'd like a fully fit Jamie Smith at the Dons, can we really risk it after 3 years (don't think his first season was interrupted by injury too much) of him being injured so much? We've wasted a lot of money on him already, I think if we were to give him another deal it could be rather foolish. Time to move on for both parties in my opinion. -
Maybe not depending on what happens with Setanta.

United away 2 January!!

The P&J this morning reports that McGhee will move to take Jim Paterson (ex United and Motherwell defender) on a season long. He also wants to take one of Maros Klimpl or Stephen Hughes from Motherwell, but not both. Hughes has been spoken to and has asked for time to weigh up the offers he's had. Klimpl is only on loan at Well and his agent is close to securing a free transfer from his holding club. Jamie Smith hasn't signed for Toronto so McGhee and Leitch are going to speak to him, and if they can get to the root of his injury problems we may be offering him a contract. -
I went for Diamond. A few months ago I would have maybe gone for Kerr but after his two red cards and then the whole stag do incident I would go for Zander.
-
I'd rather a home fixture to start with, hopefully get a big crowd and 3 points.
-
thought it may have, but they're the ones listed in the ever reliable Evening express... I think Derek Young may only have a year left too...

http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/1262857?UserKey= McGhee has said that he wants to get those players with only a year left on their contracts to sign extensions to back his long term vision for the team. Those players are Langfield, Kerr, McDonald, Foster and Mulgrew.
