Things McGhee needs to do to win over the Red Army
BobbyBiscuit replied to Reekie_Red's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Blindly accept him? He's our manager and neither me nor yourself can do anything about that, so I'll give him support until it's proven that I really shouldn't be. I'm not going into the season with the attitude "You have to win me over". I'm going into it the way I go into it as I always do, regardless of who the manager is. And you're being a bit selective with your quote there. He also said that had it not been for injuries to their best players in the first part of the season they'd have done a lot better and since Christmas Motherwell had done better than everyone bar the OF and Hearts. In that time JC and the Dons only won 4 matches if i remember correctly. -

Things McGhee needs to do to win over the Red Army

I wasn't attempting to "justify McGhee's fairly nomadic career as a manager" wise guy. Why would I want to do that? The average time in a job these days is between two and three years if I remember correctly. -

Well for a start coming out and saying "He has to win me over" makes you sound like a petulant brat. I don't think many of us are exactly overjoyed that he's the manager but try giving him a bit of support instead of sitting there with your arms crossed and your bottom lip quivering. How many managers these days do stick around anywhere for more than 3 years? Jimmy's gone. Get over it. -

See, the first post I've quoted there doesn't sound like apprehension to me. It sounds like a child who has chucked his toys out his pram. I also find it amazing you're only willing to give him until Christmas, how long were you willing to let us trundle along under Calderwood? What will McGhee have to do to win you over? Pretty much. But I have a feeling that these forums from now on are going to be a case of one lot saying "He's doing that better than Calderwood did" or "We wouldn't be struggling like this if Calderwood was here" etc. When we'll never be comparing identical circumstances, things will be skewed from either side to their preference. Very tedious and extremely irrelevant. -

I agree with Fatshaft. Who or what is there to win over? He's the new manager of our club and I'm sure will have the backing of our full support from the off. People are trying to re-write history here. Jimmy received the full backing of the support when he came in - remember the reception he got in his first competitive match in charge versus the huns at Pittodrie? But things Jimmy did unravelled that 100% support - rightly or wrongly. -

What Can We Pontificate About Now?
BobbyBiscuit replied to One Bobby Clark's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Not sure about Mulgrew in the centre of midfield. Would certainly rather see Stephen Hughes in there. There seems to be a universal change of opinion on Chris Maguire, which is of course a good thing and it's always nice to see a product of our youth system doing well. I certainly never thought the views on him would change to such an extent. will be interesting to see how McGhee sees his contribution, whether it's through the middle or out wide. -
from the BBC, apologies if already posted: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/scotland/8098061.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/scotland/8098019.stm Very interesting to hear Willie Miller emphasise the "attractive football" line so much, let's hope it works out like that. Think McGhee comes across very well, and Hughes is clearly a target. I read on Mad (I think, it may well have been here) that Leitch is on his way to Glasgow to meet Hughes to convince him to sign for us rather than Hearts who have made an offer to him already. Can't say I'm too confident of getting him considering we're competing with their wages. You never know though....

Yes, that is correct. Generally Bett, Grant and Connor in midfield, van der Ark (or Booth) with Gillhaus and Jess up front. Not quite the calibre of player we have at the moment. -
Have a good time, and endeavour to pick up as many cliches as possible as you're obviously short of a few there... STAND FREE!

I can see Clarkson coming, but not Hughes. Saw someone mention Reynolds from Motherwell, is he a centre half? -
They're going for Peter Reid?
-
First day of pre-season, they've probably still to have a decent holiday. I'm sure he'll be "unofficially" working on transfer targets while on holiday though. I wonder if he's got pre-conceived ideas about any of our lot being shown the door?
-
I'm just waiting for Celtic to come in and take him off our hands now. Good to have you on board again, Dingus! COME ON YE REDS!!!
-
One cup would have been a fucking start!
-
Take that back! I would never listen to that station!* *my mate text me to say he had just heard that on Radio Clyde....
-
Leitch will be part of the agreement though with McGhee. He was also offered the manager's job and told them to stick it. He was obviously the cheap option for 'Well, but I also think Leitch may know that 'Well are in the shit financially and would rather have a regular wage at Pittodrie than not being sure if he'll get paid at all Fir Park.
-
Supposedly Motherwell have dropped their demands to £200k but we've only upped our offer to £175k. JUST GET IT FUCKING DONE! FOR EFF EFF ESS SAKE.
-
He does look a good player the times i've seen him. Ripped us to pieces in the cup. One centre half will have to be brought in I'd imagine with Mair and most probably Seve on the way out. Would be interesting to see if McGhee (or whoever else in case the arse falls out that deal) sees Zander and Considine as the long term partnership or if a first choice centre back will be brought in.

Anyone with any (realistic) hopes of who we could bring in over the summer? What positions? Back up Jim Jeeper, right back? Winger? Centre forward?

Fuck all. I wouldn't be surprised if this was being paid from outwith the club's coffers... -
How much then?
