It's two big games where he's been played on the left of the centre backs and he looks uncomfortable there. Looked miles better on the right hand side of the two beside Considine. There appears to be no understanding and little communication between him and Taylor. I think there is a player there in O'Connor and he showed in the early part of the season that he can read the game very well. I just don't think we're going to see it beside that galloot Taylor.

Black and Gold evening with McInnes a couple of months ago.

I think questions have to be asked why DM signed this guy. He claims that Storey doesn't suit our style of play, so did we not scout him properly? Was he purely signed on the back of one good half season at ICT?
-
Think we've only conceded 8 goals at home this season (same number as Motherwell have conceded at Pittodrie this season too ), do you know how that stacks up against previous seasons OD?
-
It's true that McGinn hasn't had an outstanding game against Celtic of late, but then, who has for us? I don't quite get why he's the one who is singled out for this particular slight. McGinn is our best player and that we've managed to hold on to him for as long as we have is surprising. When McGinn is on it, we look like a team who will steamroller the opposition. This will be where McInnes has to really earn his money, McGinn will be the biggest loss we've had in years in my opinion, but at least the "doesn't play against Celtic" crew will be happy. Every cloud, and all that...
-
And how has that worked out for him so far?

I read a blog recently which made the same claim (may well be the same article which ended up in TRF). It had quotes from McGhee from the 80s which displayed his resentment for the club and some of it's players, Miller seemed to take the brunt of it ("for some it's enough to be the King of Aberdeen"). I'm not sure how accurate any of this is but it's certainly as good a theory as any. Strachan in particular has been quick to play down the achievement of Gothenburg in the past, to the point he's almost rude about it. I don't agree with McLeish's assessment that Shinnie and McLean have to turn it on against Celtic. While I think both have to step up to that level for Aberdeen's sake, John McGinn certainly isn't having to do that to get picked for the national side so why should Shinnie and McLean? The national team manager should have an obligation to the Scottish game. Constantly turning away from the Scots at the country's 2nd best side will ultimately hurt the domestic game. If good players believe they won't get picked for their country playing here, they will move to England where for many, their progression will be stifled. This could then lead to more foreigners coming into our game which doesn't help the national side either.

Seems strange to have particularly picked out that quote, when I was far from the only person saying similar from the start of the season up to the cup final, but whatever makes you happy. You could also have quoted me after last week's game where I said McLean was superb and should have been awarded MotM, but that obviously doesn't suit whatever agenda you've got this week.

There have been rumours that we're going for that big Motherwell defender who got the head knock on Saturday and was playing with a bandage thereafter - Haneghan?
-
I thought McLean was very good on Saturday, took responsibility and his passing was sharp and worked himself into good shooting positions a couple of times. The touch by McGinn to Hayes on the half way line after we broke quickly, was absolutely exquisite, if we'd scored from that it would have been a wonderful goal.

Why don't we stick with Rooney and give him the all the support he needs? Afterall, this is a player who has proven his attributes over a period of seasons for us and is just in a bad run of form. Stockley has proven nothing for us, yet. He's not very good in the air and doesn't have a great touch, also doesn't seem to have that striker instinct of heading for the box after he's linked the play. He wasn't even close to being in the right position for scoring on Saturday but Rooney, despite being off form, was getting himself in there.

An accident that's already happened, far too many times. Has to go. I agree that Considine is still harshly criticised by some but I think your point about O'Connor is a wee bit off the mark. He had a mare in the final, no doubt, but he had played the previous two matches as the right sided centre back and played very well beside Considine who also played very well and both were clearly comfortable in that set up. For his manager to then switch his partner AND switch O'Connor's specific position to play against the best team in the country in (potentially) the biggest game of the season is not fantastic management and I think O'Connor had enough credit in the bank with the fans at that point for them to not turn on him. The sad thing is though that the manager clearly held that performance against O'Connor as he has hardly featured since. O'Connor and Considine are our best centre backs and are our best pairing too. You seem to be happy with Reynolds form, but for me he's a shadow of the player he once was, which is a huge shame because he was very good for our level. Him and Taylor next to each other is like a scary, Aberdeen based episode of Keystone Cops.

Italia 90 was pretty dull from what I remember. Quite a lot of low scoring games. A few big talking points - Rijkaard spitting on Voeller's perm, Cameroon, Argentina being a horrible, turgid version of their previous self, Mattheus was outstanding and the Carabinieri getting their retaliation in first on the English in Bologna.

Dirthy Filthy Hun Scumbag Vermin (deceased) and Poundland tribute act
BobbyBiscuit replied to mizer's topic in Football Chat
Alex Neil being linked with the huns job now. Don't want him to get it, he actually knows what he's doing. -
I agree, he looked far more dynamic than his team mates and took responsibility. His shooting is absolutely chronic though. Taylor cost us with a basic mistake, not the first time and won't be the last as long as McInnes continues to pick him. Frustrating that our run is ended with such a soft goal but we didn't show enough guile in the final third. Possibly summed up by the fact we created almost zero chances from about 427 corners.

Dirthy Filthy Hun Scumbag Vermin (deceased) and Poundland tribute act

Surprisingly enough that isn't the case. Supposedly the huns have already approached them/QPFC regarding using Hampden but the huns have demanded the same deal Celtic got when they used Hampden for a season in the 90s... needless to say the huns were laughed out of the place. -
ICT's first win since November apparently. The best thing is that the huns, the hun media and all the associated hangers on don't understand their guilt in all this. We have been told the likes of Tavernier and Waghorn would take the Premier by storm; after playing against teams the division below. They are lower league players. At best, good players for the bottom 3 of the Scottish Premier. Why not just come back up and set the target as top 4 (still lofty, in my view, but they have to sell papers etc after all)? Obviously it's all because of their arrogance, their sense of self-entitlement. When the huns part 1 died Dave King said something along the lines of "No matter what guise R***ers FC come back as, they could achieve a lot by being a lot more humble..." Wise words. But it is pretty good that he then made sure nothing of the sort happened and they will die again, but hopefully it's well after Aberdeen have put them in their fucking place.

Scottish Cup 5th Round V Ross County
BobbyBiscuit replied to Chris Frae Killie's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Taylor actually did play ok, certainly better than Reynolds who is really struggling in all aspects of his game - timing is well off and passing exceptionally poor. Jack played well, McLean started really well too and they couldn't get close to him but he faded badly, one too many hollywood passes not coming off for him maybe dented his confidence. Christie should have been brought on for him with about half an hour to go as we started to drift out of it a bit and needed a lift. Lewis was great, having a goalkeeper who comes off his line to take the pressure off his defence is just brilliant. Great save right after our goal as well. A well deserved victory at a tough venue. It may actually be in our interests to draw the tims at home next. Someone is going to have to put them out if we're going to win the cup, we've probably got the best chance of doing it at Pittodrie. When is the draw? Edit: Those haggis pies were ace -
Hellish sport. Little to no skill involved. Pubs full of wankers when it's on. Not a fan.

Connor wasn't fantastic, given the players around him. I was never a fan. Lovely bloke though.
