  1. He may have played with all his heart and soul for us Reekster, but by and large Dobbin was a bombscare. He was called Dobbin for a reason. As the Northern Light once commented on him; Irvine is living proof that you can lead a horse to water but can't make a centre half out of it.
  2. As we're continually reminded on this site, it's where you finish at the end of the season that matters. Although it wasn't great (or was it acceptable, i'm not sure, he was "only" at Motherwell) they were well out of the relegation scrap. We were also at the bottom of the league last season at one point, but it's where we finished that Jimmy should be measured by I'm sure you'd agree. There are a lot of variables when comparing JC to MM, but you need to remember that we're a considerably bigger club than Motherwell.
  3. You seem to have major issues with McGhee, CTS. The guy grew up as a Celtic fan, you can't blame him for seeing if he's going to get that gig. He's also said that coming to Aberdeen is like "coming home" so we're obviously close to his heart as well. However, in this thread the people arguing against McGhee in his record v JC are skewing things a little. It honestly sounds as though you're writing him off before you've given him a chance. The fact he has done nothing in the cups doesn't make JC's record in them any better, ye know? (and he's only had 2 seasons, compared to Calderwood's five.) I don't think we can look at things as "he's no better than JC". It's largely irrelevant before he's even had the opportunity to put his team out on the park. Give the guy a chance. The bickering between the folk from the hat and here always goes on so that reality is embelished to back up each side's points and the same has been done here. JC has left the Dons in a good position for McGhee to come in and try to improve things further. The fact he was interested in the Celtic job should not be held against him, he'll be named Aberdeen manager and will do his best for us, the same as JC did. It's understandable if you didn't want JC to get the sack, but that's not Mark McGhee's fault. I also don't think Motherwell were involved in a relegation battle per se, that's stretching the truth a little.
  4. That's because what I posted was true. If you want to delude yourself, charge on, but don't have a go at people for telling the truth.
  5. The time was up for JC. If the club make bad appointments then those decisions are wrong. JC may well have stayed here, been given no cash to spend and had a nightmare season. We don't know, and anyone who pretends they do is lying.
  6. OH THE IRONING!!! I was merely pointing out that it was likely the decision was made on other grounds, that's all, as a point of discussion. As this is a discussion forum. Radical, I know, but I thought I'd make the point anyway...
  7. The wrong decisions would be the managerial appointments. You can't argue that Smith, W Miller, Aitken and Alex Miller all had to be relieved of their duties, can you? The fact the next guys ended up shit doesn't mean they should have kept their jobs at that time, surely?* *(I'm not saying that JC's had taken us to those depths, of course but things were rather stale, no progress in the cups etc)
  8. You won't be the only one! JC is in a good position himself now, leaves after he's taken the club back into Europe and a couple of youngsters coming through the ranks too. He's left a good enough legacy. I also think it may have done him a favour, the likelihood of Seve and Smith leaving, a squad looking a bit threadbare in the experience department and rather short on quality overall, we've perhaps done him a favour. Again, only time will tell, but a new management team with new ideas and new signings is always an exciting time and I'm looking forward to it...until we're in the bottom six in March...
  9. I agree with your post Jager, but the bit in bold has been held up by those who are perhaps more staunch supporters of JC than myself. The inferrence of "time will tell if it was the right decision" is that if McGhee messes up it means we shouldn't have got rid of JC. That isn't correct. It is two different decisions and should be treated as such. If people believe JC shouldn't have been given the dunt then that should be the case if McGhee goes on to do nothing for us or wins the cup double. The decision to sack Roy Aitken didn't become the wrong choice because Alex Miller was an abortion of a manager.
  10. No matter who our new manager was going to be, there would always be the possibility they would be lured to a bigger job in 12 months, that isn't an exclusive possibility to Mark McGhee. If, by retards, you mean the Aberdeen board, fair enough as you're obviously a big supporter of JC. If, however, by retards you mean the guys who "protested" outside the ground after the ICT game and who are so vocal about their JMG beliefs on another AFC Chat site then you are crediting them with so much more influence than they actually have. There is not a snowballs chance in hell that they influenced the decision to get rid of JC. As far as the news about McGhee goes... I'm relatively underwhelmed but relatively pleased that it's at an end now and we can get on with a fresh start. Also pleased that the zoomers linked to the job (of which there were many) have been unsuccesful. I think Hughes would be a good addition to the midfield with Kerr and McDonald, particularly if we'll play 4-3-3 under McGhee. Clarkson would also be a welcome signing. Onwards and upwards under McGhee, hopefully.
  11. They did approach their preferred candidate before JC walked. If their preferred candidate doesn't want the job then there's not much they can do.
  12. A shambles? Have a word with yourself. Why is he not having a go at Celtic? they've been looking for more or less the same time and done it in public too.
  13. Only posting this so we can get stuck into Jim McLean: Who does he think should be appointing the manager? The manager he says shouldn't have been sacked was appointed by Willie Miller, and look at Milne's disasterous managerial appointments. McLean is a bitter bastard whose teams struggled as soon as the backpass rule came in. Willie should have sorted him out at Dens Park in 88.
  14. I would hope that we see the best of Considine under a new manager. He appeared to take the brunt of Calderwood's wrath a lot of the time (some justified, some not) in public which couldn't have done his confidence any good.
  15. According to one downmarket tabloid (aren't they all?) Colin Calderwood is a candidate for the Dons job.
  16. I doubt any appointment could ever dampen the enthusiasm as much as the Alex Cunt Miller one. A part of me died that day.
  17. He was a good squad player and I think he could be missed. Then again...
  18. I think only Steve Nicol could answer that question He-Man and he hasn't posted on here for quite some time now.
  19. I believe there have been concerns over the transfer budget i.e. it's £0.
  20. That was brilliant!!
  21. Sanchez would be a disasterous appointment I think, so probably just as well this is pish.
  22. I wasn't meaning to differentiate between the Gothenburg side, I was meaning to name a stand for the collective group as they all played their part in our greatest achievement.
  23. No chance. Take out the Joe Harper one and have one for the Gothenburg Greats.
