  1. I understand your point, but it doesn't detract from the fact that Storie just wasn't used this season and by all accounts wouldn't have been used even if that scenario came about. I would imagine O'Connor and even Hayes would find themselves in that central midfield position, as has been done before. Storie's attitude has driven him to St Mirren, and is supposedly on his last chance with McInnes. He had no intention of using him this season, even though he was on the bench numerous times.
  2. Scored a cracking header against the Tims at Pittodrie, no one picked him up as none of their lot could see him. He actually scored a few in his first season. Then he found the invisibility cloak passed down through generations of Dons midfielders - Stark and Connor being the most notable owners. (An old Northern Light reference there)
  3. The boy never got a game anyway this season so I don't actually see what difference it makes. If we let Hayes go today and don't get anyone in that will be two January windows in a row we've weakened. We should have told Cardiff to have this done by the weekend if at all to allow us time to strengthen.

I thought T2 was good, but not great. There were some exceptionally funny moments in it - the huns scene was superb - and there were some really heartbreaking moments too (Spud's letter, for example) but I found some of it clumsy, too jumpy. Spud and Begbie are great characters superbly played but I'm not convinced with Renton and Sick Boy. There seemed a lack of depth to them. Would like to see it again soon to see if I still thought the same but I'd give it 6.5/10.
  5. Well McKenna is one example, there aren't many others over the years for the Dons. You may well be correct about the EPL example, but I don't see the ones who aren't making it, so can only make a call on those who are. Of course you're right in that no matter how well built you are, it takes time to get used to getting kicked harder, eased off the ball from men rather than boys (a point I made in the Under 20s thread about why the u20s simply doesn't work), marking someone who is faster and stronger than the guys you've played against not to mention the technical/tactical nous, but having that build there, that strength, is definitely of more use than not having it. My general concern though, is that we could put ourselves ahead of the game in Scotland if we produced technically gifted players who are also stronger physically than those coming through elsewhere.
  6. One example? Look at young players going into EPL teams, 9/10 times they'll be bigger than an SPL counterpart.
  7. Look at pretty much all the players who come through the youth system going back 18-20 years, they have nearly all been built like the edge of a Rizla. Even Russell Anderson was like this. When you look at youngsters coming through sides down south they're all solid - may not be huge, but they've got a bit of presence about them; big shoulders and solid torso, ours are likely to fall over in a moderate wind. Why?
  8. A decent bet is for matches in the SPL to be draws at half time, always seems to be a fair few Saturdays per season where there are 5 0-0s in the SPL at half time out of the 3pm kick offs. Already put the Dons on -1 goal so won't bother with the cards but wouldn't be surprised if Clancy is in charge. Had put a bet on that game last night for the cards because Atkinson was the ref, semi final and thought Southampton would be up against it away from home... wasn't a tackle in the whole game.
  9. Sent out a pretty poor message to our male supporters too, in particular the younger ones. The fact some of our supporters then used the case as a way of "glorifying" Goodwillie was also grim. The "shags who he wants" chants were vile and shameful.
  10. I don't like United and was delighted when we effectively relegated them (outwith the obvious delight of us saving our own skin at the time), but I certainly don't hate them the way I hate the huns. I think some folk tried too hard to create a more tangible rivalry with United. You do have to wonder how they'll cope with another season in the championship - financially that must fuck them up?
  11. I like a bet and am currently on a good run (which will come to an end very soon no doubt!!). Have to say I rarely touch SPL games these days; too many are too hard to call. Find I do best with Serie A, always seem to get good value there. Atalanta and Bologna have been particularly kind to me this season. Had a thing for betting on cards in the past two seasons - you get really good odds on a team getting more than 3 cards, and can somewhat reduce your risk by also betting on them getting 2-3 cards. Unfortunately, the current trend for refs to keep their cards in their pockets for as long as possible means I've not ventured into that market too much this season.
  12. I need to actually download it from their site now. Can't get it on my phone via the podcast app I have anymore. Listened to the Rico one - wee bit disappointed he didn't go into more depth about his time with us. Alluded a couple of times that the younger players in the squad at the time were maybe not up to it mentally in terms of challenging/winning trophies ahead of that huns side. Will always remember standing on the terrace at Dens in the pissing rain when he scored a last minute winner after we'd been one down - think the huns lost that day too, was some bounce when that went in.
  13. After reading Paul McGrath's autobiography I've always had respect for Taylor. Seemed like a really decent human being, and there doesn't seem to be too many of them in the game.
  14. Realistic for them because they're skint.
  15. Totally. Also nice to see someone with a high profile actually saying in public what a lot of the fans are thinking, and none of this "Aberdeen fans expect too much" you get from no marks like Steven Thompson. He's actually willing us to push ourselves, as we absolutely should be doing. And good on him for calling out the likes of Stockley. 3 forwards brought in in the summer, don't think any of us would be too bothered if all 3 left in this window.
  16. Spot on again, Charlie.
  17. Quite an honest, and strange, way for a manager to be talking about a player soon to be out of contract. (DM on Jack's situation)

Going to see the first Trainspotting at the Grosvenor in Ashton Lane next Tuesday night. Then going to see the new one on the 28th at the same place. I'm not a massive fan of going to the cinema but I love the Grosvenor, comfy and you can have a drink. Really looking forward to the new film.
  19. The squad is in desperate need of a new centre back if DM continues playing Shinnie in midfield and therefore Consi at left back. Even if we let Taylor or Reynolds go and took back McKenna (think his loan is up next week) and actually used the boy that would be a step in the right direction.
  20. 16 groups of 3. Horrendous idea. They should have looked at the state of the Euros last summer and realised expanding tournaments isn't necessarily a great idea. Modern day football has eaten itself. The sport is great, all the noise around it, all the greed around it is disgusting.
  21. Originated from the Agent Scotland twitter feed i believe. i.e. bollocks.
  22. No such law as obstruction these days, which is part of the problem here.
  23. Came on as a sub against the huns at Pittodrie in a 0-0 I think and actually did ok, all things considered. If it's the goal I'm thinking of (volley from about 25 yards into the top corner) we lost 2-1 in around 93/94. Leighton had a blinder for Hibs. If it is that game, I think it's on the 93/94 season review video which is now on YouTube.
  24. Ryan Fraser puts Bournemouth 3-0 up against Arsenal.
