One in 20 years then!?!
-
That was at Pittodrie though.

we got a penalty at Parkhead or Ibrox? I'm really struggling to think of when these were. Got a vague recollection of Joe Miller scoring a pen at Ibrox circa 94 in a League Cup quarter final which we lost in extra time, but not convinced it was a penalty he scored. I can't remember any others there, even the goals Jim Bett scored for us there weren't penalties! As for Parkhead, I remember Gillhaus missing one in 89, but can't remember any since. Surely we've had another penalty there in 20 years...? Surely!

He's a fucking card , eh? Certainly didn't sound like he was having a laugh.
-
Towards the back, just to the side of the goals nearest the main stand.
-
No, it wasn't your shout Ajja. It was definitely "Get to fuck Young you useless cunt" and there was a fair amount of venom in it. There were guys behind us - going by their age they should definitely have known better - who were giving the players and JC fucking terrible abuse, and you actually got the feeling from them that they were gutted we scored at the end.
-
Aye, like the cretin near us last night who shouted "Get to fuck Young you useless cunt" as he came round to warm up. Now, Derek Young is one of my least favourite players ever, but I'd never shout something like that. Christ, the boy didn't even get on the pitch and he's getting pelters! Unbelievable.

Are the two of you sure it wasn't a goal kick the linesman was flagging for...?
-
I didn't realise he was offside at the time. Probably cos me head was in my hands as i thought "how the fuck did you miss that?"
-
If it goes pear shaped on Saturday, there will be a backlash as you say. I just wonder how much Calderwood realises this? Huge support down for it, huge incentive to win, huge (whisper it) expectation... we wouldn't bottle it, would we?
-
We were talking about this at the game last night and in the pub afterwards. If you watch JC from the very second the first whistle goes, he's out on the touchline throwing his arms about in what is usually exasperation and often in anger at the slightest little thing going wrong. Why does he do that? What is it going to achieve? He can not possibly think this is going to have a positive effect on the players, can he? I know that it is more than likely that the players become switched off from it, but Langfield had a go back at JC last night in the first half. It creates the impression that the players are always the ones at fault and are continually going against his tactics or advice. If that is the case, then there are big problems on both sides.

You're right in everything you say there, but what I would say about the two shots from Maguire (that I remember) is that in both instances shooting was clearly the wrong option. The first one, had it gone in, would have rivalled Marco van Basten's Euro 88 goal. The second, he had three defenders in front of him and he tried to hit it on the half volley from 20 yards. There was no chance of either ever getting near the target never mind troubling the keeper. It could be argued that too much self belief undone him and us in those instances. I thought Maguire did ok last night, but he has to appreciate he's not playing down the park with his mates. A bit more thought and composure is required at this level.

I went for Aluko, just shades Kerr for me.

I thought it was a fantastic header, and I actually think Wright did fairly well for us overall. Totally agree with this. I do think we should have won, considering some of the openings we created - Miller hitting the post, the chance right at the start of the 2nd half, Mackie's miss from 3 yards (which i'd have to see again but looked awful from where we were), Aluko's lovely touch and then shot across the keeper that just went past. But, I suppose, if you defend as we did for their goal, then you probably don't deserve to win. There were a few positives, the performances of Kerr and Aluko were good, Maguire had some good moments (and some not so good) and Wright did well for us too in patches. Charlie Mulgrew... the word "brainless" comes to mind. He was getting pulled inside too much when he should have been passing his man on to either Kerr or Mair, and then his distribution was hideous. Severin had a right go at him, but how can a pro footballer not work out that on a night like last night the ball has to go to feet?
-
Miller may well need a boot up the arse, and although it's not right, Mackie and Maguire get that stick because of years of ineptitude, not because they've gone 7 matches without scoring. Miller should certainly be engineering himself into positions to threaten the target, but he also has to be set up by his team mates. It's not as black and white as "he didn't have a shot at goal, ergo drop him". It is concerning though, and especially concerning as I seem to remember a similar stat about him over a period of matches a year or two ago when he was on a poor run.

Crikey. The other thing is though you don't want to be in Paisley too early, do you? That could be a horrible state of affairs.
-
If you left bang on 4, you'd probably just beat the Dundee rush hour traffic and would miss the worst of the Glasgow rush hour too.
-
It's fucking cold. Ice cold. It's pretty clear, but it will be baltic tonight. Wrap up, folks!
-
The word "great" is over used these days.
-
That's actually quite far from the truth.

Sky Sports: Time of Our Lives: The Dandy Dons
BobbyBiscuit replied to Kowalski's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Enjoyed the programme, heard most of it before right enough but it was good none the less. Got the feeling that Jeff Stelling (as much as I like the guy) didn't appreciate just how good we were. The way he spoke was as if we were hanging on by our fingernails against Real. It was good to see WM pulling him up and telling him how well we played and how we really controlled that match. Had to laugh at Mark McGhee though, something obviously went on the night after Gothenburg and he does look rough as fuck in the photos of the St Clair arriving back in Aberdeen. Also strange how he could remember that Simmie scored against Hamburg but not himself scoring in the same game! Willie's bit at the start on when Fergie first arrived at the club was class: "But, I just pulled him aside and told him how it was" -
Langfield Vidal Diamond Severin Mulgrew Smith Kerr McDonald Aluko Mackie Miller I think the balance in the midfield has looked good with Kerr and McDonald, so although I prefer Severin in midfield, I'd sacrifice that and have him in defence.
-
I've gone for Miller and Mackie. Miller will come good for us I think, just a blip and Mackie - if he's going to play - has to play through the middle, not out wide.

Did Eoin Jess tell you to smile like that? Or was it Sir Alex?
