Play Shinnie at left back - we lose so much going forward without him there and let's face it, Craig Storie could step in to midfield to do the dirty work for Jack. Storie would also provide drive from midfield, which was way too pedestrian today, again. We went long far too often and Reynolds has to sort out that horrible floaty ball he plays towards our centre forwards Adam's apple. Miles Storey looked promising at first but his final ball was guff pretty much every time. O'Connor was good and it is clear he is the player who should be taking on the right cb role. Stockley - we went direct to him far too often. Not his fault and there were no runners off him either. Without Hayes through injury I think resting both Rooney and McGinn was just a step too far. One of them should have started to provide an air of familiarity at least to those behind them. Pleased to see Ryan Jack looking more positive as he has done in the European games, that's a big positive for us. However, Kenny McLean was utterly brutal. Again. Time for a rest I think. Watched Hertz-Sellick today - Hertz are very narrow in midfield, that is something we have to exploit next week. Is Hayes expected back then? I would certainly hope McGinn is back in the team. Either way, we need more urgency and we need to be committed. They were putting it about today and will do so again next Saturday.

I thought Jack did well in the second half, but the first was more of the "I'll just take the safe option here" stuff from him - obviously that's the right thing to do on occasion, but not every occasion and i think it's a habit he has to get out of if he's going to fulfil his talent.

Yip, first half hour was a struggle, but from then on we played some good stuff and really got on top of them. Praise to DM for going two up front, and it paid off immediately with Rooney dropping off and laying off to Hayes who provided a great ball for Stockley to head home. Think we should be doing this more, especially at home. McGinn, Hayes and Rooney played well tonight. Rooney with a great finish for the second, a Shearer-esque finish, on the half turn and sweeping the ball past the keeper. Burns, despite only having 5 minutes or so certainly looked promising and scored a fine goal. Taylor is still shite. And really should have had a red card for a hideous challenge at 0-0. But well done Dons, good result. Rooney also now the Dons' 4th top European scorer on 8, behind Jarvie (10), Hewitt (12) and McGhee (14). He was also a well deserved MotM tonight.

All these new signings this summer and they're all, bar one of the keepers, sitting on the bench

We were utter ding. Reminiscent of a few performances last season - no spark, no will to win, second to everything, poor decision making. The only ones I'd give pass marks to are Lewis, Flood (who at least got about the park and showed a bit of balls) and Rooney when he came on as he was fighting a lone fight. Stockley looked powderpuff - was shoved off the ball very easily and looked well short of fitness. McLean/O'Connor/Jack - embarrassing from them. In a game like that they should be imposing themselves on inexperienced part time players. Jack must be the easiest player in the world to play against. He has talent, but he does not have the bravery on the ball that his talent and position requires and demands. Taylor - just fuck off. How can McInnes not see that this guy is a dumpling? Reynolds - frightening how his form has dropped off, it doesn't look on this showing that it's coming back any time soon. Only 2nd game of the season I know, but a lot of the above was relevant last season too and I am concerned about the season ahead.

Says a lot that Hewedes has been one of Germany's better attacking players. Absolute shiter of a game.
-
Brilliant stuff. He played well when he was on, but it is absolutely clear that NI's tactics don't really suit him, hence his time on the bench. Germany - Poland has been a massive let down. Thought that could have been a cracker.

I'd have preferred one of Reynolds or Taylor to have left the building to be honest. The fact both are still there, both still on reasonable money, you'd have to assume that considering we've signed Morris, have Considine as well, we may well not sign the CB that is necessary. Jackson Irvine is the sort of guy we need in midfield; strong runner, good ball player and good tackler. And... if these signings are designed to pad out the squad... what's the point if the padding is way below the standard required? No point having numbers for the sake of having numbers. We need footballers.

I don't agree we've made good signings at all. These guys are not going to be the additions required to push Celtic - way, way short of the quality required. At the moment, with the exception of a keeper obviously, does anyone really think our starting line-up is going to look any different to last season? I certainly don't and it is really concerning. We need a big, commanding, no nonsense centre half (someone who can mark Taylor as well as the opposition.). We need a commanding centre midfielder. I know these types don't grow on trees and we're likely to pay a wee bit more for them, but without either we will not be progressing. We need real leaders brought in, and they must be guys who know how to see us through matches.

A really lazy signing in my view. Even as a backup, there must be better we could have signed.
-
If they do, Bonucci will likely be a good shout for Player of the Tournament - he's a great defender and footballer.
-
Got the same treble... thought the first two games would have been more comfortable victories, think this one may be a tight affair too.

Really nicely worked free kick that. I'll be stealing that for Red Stars next season. It seems, bizarrely, that Modric is still somewhat underrated. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves - such a lovely player able to dictate the direction and speed of matches. Saw a statement today that when Dennis Wise was involved with Newcastle (director of football or something like that) he advised the manager not to sign Modric as his promise 'would never come to anything'. Remarkable, really, but not wholly surprising given what a horrible player Wise was.
-
I think he's found himself on the bench a lot for them recently - going by that game O'Neill doesn't seem to have much time for wide men, which is very strange considering his own playing career.
-
The introduction of the u20s probably means there is not much scope to return to the old style reserve league rather than the development league which is a big shame. "Development League" is possibly the biggest misnomer in our game.

Folks, Red Stars are running a Euro Predictor again (I know some of you took part in the World Cup one two years ago), £5 entry. If you are interested, PM me your email address and I'll get a copy of it over to you and will send on all the relevant details. Thanks.

Kenny Miller sparked out in the centre circle and other huns getting their dinner handed to them: https://twitter.com/JackMcKelvie/status/734086007717519360

Supposedly their thinking is that it's hard to reverse poor form such as theirs and that would probably mean relegation.
-
I have a feeling Vaulks will be signing for us...
-
Storey wasn't one of his players though - he must know the pitfalls of the loan system.
-
I saw that Ash Taylor wished Rogers and Vaulks good luck before the game last night, via Twitter; could Vaulks be coming to us?

Said to a mate at the hearts game last Thursday that I genuinely can't remember seeing Church touch the ball outside the area. Linking outside the area, as they put it, was not Church's forte.. along with running, making a nuisance of himself for opposition defenders and general football related stuff...

I've been asked not to respond to you so as not to ruin the enjoyment of the forum for others so I won't be responding to you, so you charge on and fill your boots.
-
I've had no rants at you chief. As well you know.

My own well being? Take your thinly veiled threats and stick them. Horrendous behaviour from a grown man. Behaviour from a closed, uncultured mindset.
