  1. Great night for us, didn't see it coming at all. Listened to the radio tonight as couldn't make Tannadice, the Celtic game was the main commentary game and there just isn't that same relentlessness you'd expect to hear from Celtic when they're at home needing a goal. Certainly not what you'd have got in seasons past. Commentators saying they were pretty directionless and Dundee looked like the team who'd win it in the second half and even missed a sitter with ten minutes to go. Bring on next Tuesday.
  2. Shows just how ridiculous possession stats can be. More than one way to skin a cat etc.
  3. Wouldn't want his first game back to be on that pitch
  4. Whelan was a great player. Have to say this is my favourite goal of his though:
  5. With the disastrous news that Adam Rooney is out, there really looks like DM has mismanaged the squad. Hindsight is wonderful etc, but let's face it, most of us have said for a while that if Rooney, Hayes or McGinn get injured we're screwed. Now two of them are injured and we really are going to struggle and i think yesterday showed this. A laboured performance with little to no cutting edge. I know DM won't do this as he now has Church but my preferred solution to the Rooney absence would be for McGinn to be played right through the middle. He's done it before for us in a far poorer team and succeeded. I think we'll have a better chance of winning matches with him there than Church.
  6. Also thought McLean did a good job yesterday. Thought Pawlett was ok and thought Flood did well mostly, just doing his usual job, but really there was no-one who was outstanding. It was a pretty brutal game overall. Taylor - fed up saying it but more fed up seeing the clown shoes prick starting another match, he's a liability. His fresh air kick in the first half was embarrassing but thankfully didn't lead to a goal, unfortunately his ridiculous mis-cue was punished. But will probably start on Wednesday. There appears to be no consequence management.
  7. Kjaer was a cracking keeper, the difference he made to the guys in front of him was incredible which is such a big part of being a good keeper. One of Langfield's big problems was that he didn't communicate well and his defenders didn't trust him. I'll take a hybrid of Leighton and Snelders, thanks.
  8. They're allowed to show the game on a CL night if it's a re-arranged fixture. But the fact BT have the CL and had this game may mean they choose not to show it. Also, do the clubs not only get TV cash per game if it's the cup?
  9. Taylor should be out, but won't be. I'd keep Storie in, and would probably play Flood too. The game at McDermid a few weeks ago was a bit scrappy in the middle of a pitch which is about as bad as ours and we really didn't get to grips with that area until Storie came on. Storie and Flood in there should mean we pick up the loose balls and get our foot in when required. Saw Steven McLean didn't play for them v Thistle - is he injured or was he suspended? Would be good if he was out, Reynolds doesn't do well against him.
  10. Add Giroud to that list MBT. The guy is never good enough for where Arsenal want to be.
  11. cracking game in Turin. Juve coming back from 2-0 to 2-2
  12. Would also have liked someone to have asked him why he tends to shop in the same places all the time... (for the first team, anyway)
  13. Richmond has been quite an interesting guest on OTB in the past. He has claimed that if you're not in a 'top' profession you have no chance of moving up the ladder - kind of suggests if you're not a mason etc etc. Collum is a fucking awful ref though, so has clearly got this one wrong...
  14. Really hope Thistle stay up, Tom. They had a great run of 5 or 6 matches over Christmas, thought that would have seen them alright but it's such a close league at that end of the table.
  15. George Schmidt. (one for the teenagers, there )
  16. Putting this in here because of the effect it may have on AFC in the future... It is obviously very funny what is happening to Dundee United, but do we really want them to go down this season? Another biggish club out of the league but let's face it, if they go down - and they likely will - it will be because they have been utterly rotten and don't deserve to be in the top flight. Will you miss them after the initial laughing at them has worn off? Tannadice is always a favoured away trip and United at Pittodrie is always one of the home fixtures to look out for no matter how shite they've become. Personally, i'd like to see Killie piss off out the league. Looks like the huns will come up but you know Hibs will do a Hibs and bottle any playoff. The huns being back... not looking forward to it. I've enjoyed them being away. I really wouldn't care if we never played them again and a lot of my Dons supporting mates feel the same but some can't wait to get a go at them. Do you want them back?
  17. Had watched the Leverkusen - Dortmund game earlier, Dortmund had won a free kick in their own half, took it quickly, broke up the park and scored. Leverkusen were livid that the free kick appeared to be soft but also that the kick was taken 5 yards from where the offence took place. The Leverkusen manager, Schmidt, was giving the ref a hard time from the side of the park and the ref told the 4th official to send Schmidt to the stand. Schmidt wouldn't go unless the ref sent him off in person so the ref walked off. Eventually the game re-started and the coach went to the stands. But not a glorious moment for the ref, should have been a lot stronger.
  18. Good stuff gents, thought it would be well received. Larry Lloyd seems like a bit of a character!
  19. 'You continue to play Rooney off a wide position - you recently bought a centre forward who is in no way anywhere near as good as Rooney. Would it not have made more sense to buy a natural wide player and play Rooney through the middle?' 'Ash Taylor - WTF?'
  20. Nah, MBT, I think the old "compared to Miller and McLeish" thing is a cop out as no one expected him to be at that level. He just wasn't very good. He had the turning circle of a lorry. Any ball in behind him and he was absolutely fucked. He was the weaklink in a very good AFC side and as I mentioned, that mistake in 93 was an absolute horror which any competent amateur would be ashamed of.
  21. That's very generous Rico - he was trying to be too cute (at best). Reynolds has been shite since Anderson stopped playing.
  22. Listened to this last week. Not Irvine's biggest fan, but found it quite an interesting but sad listen. Didn't sound as though the big chap was in a great place. Also his regular mentions of writing to Fergie on a regular basis asking for help certainly suggested someone who may not be altogether stable. I always found it hard to watch Irvine playing football - kinda like a latter day Ash Taylor - as my grandfather put it, 'he's the laddie who won the Corn Flakes competition to play football with his heroes. Just a shame it was a fucking 5 year contract'. Found it interesting that he said he learned more from McLeish but felt the most pressure from Miller (in terms of bosses). He had been dropped for the title run in of 90-91 and was likely 3rd choice centre half under Miller but with McKimmie getting a bad injury it meant he played a lot of matches in 92-93 with Smith going to left back. He was a pretty poor player but he gave it his all and fair fucks to him, lived the dream (well, my dream, anyway). Still can't forgive him the fresh air kick in the 93 final though....
  23. I Believe In Miracles is on BT Sport tomorrow night at 10.30pm. Not sure if it will be the full film, but I'd urge you to watch it if you have the chance.
  24. Let's face it, when it comes down to it we've got no baws. That lot kicked us off the park tonight, stopped us from getting any rhythm or momentum and what was our answer? Whinge to the ref a bit, put in half arsed challenges in return, allow our centre half to hand it to them on a fucking plate. Just saw the ICT pen incident again - look at Taylor's head and hands. He's a massive shitebag.
  25. Now that was a penalty.
