  1. Took Rose last night at 5/1. Cheering him on tonight but just hope it's a decent spectacle more than anything... too many majors recently have been non events.
  2. Short corners should be banned.
  3. Both goalkeepers are lucky to be playing at the club they're at. I hope they both enjoy the last month of the season because it should be their last at the club. Get a quality goalkeeper in and have Rodgers as back up and let's move on. Shinnie should be left back - fans mentioning he's being signed as a centre mid worries me. We've not had a LB since David Robertson. Now we've signed one surely we're going to play him in that position? One thing I'd love to see next season though is McGinn right in behind Rooney rather than the wide position he takes up. I think we'd destroy teams every week with that...including Celtic.
  4. Hayes has been superb. McGinn has been very good a lot of the season without necessarily getting the plaudits at the time. Jack? Nah, been very good at times but just hasn't stepped up when a dominant centre midfielder should be stepping up. But, if it's not Adam Rooney it's a disgrace. The guy has been consistently brilliant. A terrific striker. The best we've had since big Dunc.
  5. Dave King currently at Augusta, enjoying the golf, supposedly. Bored of the huns already or just realised how much of a basket case he's taken on? Or maybe that's where he's hidden this "war chest" the Daily R*n*e* keep going on about?
  6. If Russell wants another season then we should grant it. Players of his quality and character have been so hard to come by at Pittodrie for the last 20 years. If he's with us and fit, he'll contribute. He is by far and away our best defender, still - his reading of the game is a joy to witness. It makes me laugh when you see a ball drop in the six yard box when Russell is playing as he launches himself at it as he knows his keeper will not be coming for it... you can only imagine Russell's face as he re-signed for the Dons a couple of years ago upon walking into the changing room and seeing Langfield was still at the club. Should have doubled RA's wages there and then...
  7. Klos McGrain Narey Heggarty Robertson Laudrup McStay Gascoigne Collins Larsson Johnston
  8. Regardless of stats, Reynolds has been poor this season. The St Johnstone Fri night game he put in perhaps the poorest outfield performance I've seen of any Don under DM. He is well off his own standards. I'm actually struggling to think of a game this year where he's looked like himself. I thought Reynolds was superb for us last season, but this season... I don't know if it's tiredness (he's played a lot of football for two years solid), the added responsibility of the captaincy or the fact he doesn't have Anderson there to hold his hand but there's something really not right with him just now.
  9. It's not just about his time at Aberdeen though. Wasn't there a stat that up until his last season at Pittodrie he hadn't given any youth team player their debut in Scotland, including his time at DAFC. The money thing also isn't just about Aberdeen but also the assurances he asked for at Kilmarnock - so by his own admission, he needs cash to spend. If that's his style of management, that's fine - but in Scotland you're not going to get a job these days if that's a pre-requisite.
  10. Richard Keys is another I have a great disliking of. Terrible man. Really didn't like TM at Hearts, moving to Celtic and the automatic Scotland caps which followed really riled me though. Pish player, couldn't defend which is never a good thing when you're a defender. His sending off in the 6-2 game in 92 was class though.
  11. After being around the likes of Savile, DLT etc in the 70s at the BBC and doing fuck all about their horrendous sexual behaviour (as admitted by himself), Paul Gambaccini has just said on a BBC Freddie Mercury documentary... Utter arsehole of a man. A creepy crawly who the police should be pulling in and at least charging on the ground of having little to no moral backbone.
  12. I had the exact same feelings about Tosh McKinlay. He shouldn't have bothered me as much as he did, and i never knew why, but he really, really did.
  13. ...with no Dons players in it. Who would you go for? Can be the best players or the ones you didn't mind as much as certain others. It can be from any era of the "Premier Division" i.e. 70s up to present day.
  14. Was surprised at the Dens Park game two Saturday's ago that Delia was getting a lot of songs about him from the Dons fans. The guy just doesn't even register with me at all. Strachan wound me up far, far more than this guy.
  15. Penalty to Celtic... handball. Which it was. 2-0.
  16. Fraser had some good moments but should have scored at least one. Got hooked in the 2nd half. Derek Rae has just said "In a relegation scrap, you need players like Jim Goodwin." Alternative way of looking at it... "It's because you have players like Jim Goodwin you're in a relegation scrap".
  17. Well, after over an hour of huffing and puffing from both sides, Celtic take the lead, inevitably.
  18. Nothing to do with being at the top end of the Premiership...they're just collecting the Sun's holiday tokens.
  19. Not happening lads, although I hope I'm wrong of course. St Mirren are a desperate side, nothing to them whatsoever. Ryan Fraser starting for Bournemouth today against Ipswich, his first league start in over a month apparently. They're losing 1-0. He looks to have bulked up a little, hope for his sake that doesn't mean he loses that wee zip to get past his marker. He's taken a couple of hefty challenges already today.
  20. Would Paterson's squad not have been worse than that? (although agree with your point about getting that squad to 4th) Calderwood, in my opinion, didn't get another full time gig for two reasons. the first is that he needs cash, won't use the youth system so will always go to the transfer market first and for the last few years clubs in Scotland just haven't had the cash. The second is how he is perceived in public. He comes across as a cocky loudmouth; he accentuated his moderate successes and distanced himself from his failures. His "I've taken this team as far as I can" after whipping Celtic 4-2 was ill advised in the extreme but showed he was far too quick to praise himself as we then went on a wretched run of results. He's a poor man's Sam Allardyce, essentially.
  21. Aye, fair point Al. Brian Irvine built an entire career out of it, afterall...
  22. Hope the student's time in Aberdeen is more memorable than Mo Ross's. Mo Ross is one of these guys I actually have to think quite hard about whether they actually played for us, or whether it was just some fleeting sick joke I thought up one day. See also Griffin, Danny. Someone mentioned that David Mcnamee played for us too; this I have absolutely no recollection of whatsoever.
  23. I would counter that with one of the Partick games at Firhill, and a run of games thereafter where his distribution was woeful. The Partick game sticks in my mind because he was particularly bad with his passes. A lot of hoofing up the park - not alone in that, of course - but a lot of just not getting his head up, making the wrong choice and then not executing his choice well. He has the attributes to go on and become a very accomplished player, don't get me wrong, but I really didn't get the hype over his performances while he was with us. Also agree with the shouts re Taylor.
  24. Thought he was a decent player but his distribution was extremely shoddy at times. I don't think we really missed him when he left, put it that way.
  25. Both Reynolds and Langfield were poor at the goal. Obviously an uncharacteristic mistake from Jack kicked it all off, but Reynolds was nowhere near tight enough to his man and Langfield's positioning and then feeble attempt at saving the shot really just isn't good enough. We were in the line of the ball behind the goal and it went right through Langfield. Crisp packet hands indeed. But McInnes is in a tight spot now - can he drop Langfield again and reinstate Brown whose confidence will also be rock bottom?
