Im also comfortable with that. Just the way it is these days. As I've said before, I really didn't know who I wanted as the list of names was generally pretty uninspiring to me. But good luck to the guy, I hope he's a success.
-
Put simply, McInnes wouldn't be here if we weren't. He's just been in the championship. Does well at AFC and he'll be back there pronto.
-
Why not? We're still a big job relatively speaking. The fact we even think of saying "well it's better than levein" tells you how fucking uninspiring this is. I've been to 6/7 matches since new year and seen us score 3 goals. I'm fed up. Fed up with the players, management and board. The appointment of McInnes has not relieved any of those concerns.
-
I do wonder if we'd have gone for him had he still been employed elsewhere. It smacks of being the cheap option and that bothers me. I don't care who he played for, but I worry about his ability to do the job here. Good luck to the guy but it's an uninspiring choice and for his sake in particular I hope we get off to a fast start. Don't think I've ever been so under whelmed about one of our managerial appointments as I am right now.

Bookies closing markets on these things is no sign of a done deal. Next manager markets are highly exploitable to betting rings so I wouldn’t read too much into that but I do think he’ll be on the shortlist (if there is one) due to the fact there is no compensation to be paid. “Underwhelmed” would begin to describe my reaction should this be true, however
-
Levein? Fuck that. Do you not remember his style of football at Hertz? Lump the ball up to de Vries. If that isn’t working, stick Kevin McKenna up front and lump it up to him. I’ve always said that considering how cultured a centre half Levein was as a player, it is an utter disgrace how he sets his teams up and he’s done nothing to change my mind on that. I’m not convinced about Adams; not saying he’s a poor manager, I’ve just never taken to the guy. I’d like to see Jocky Scott involved more with the new man, either as an assistant or co-manager. Paatelainen would be an interesting appointment. I also have a sneaky suspicion John Collins is going to have a good chance of it with Brown still involved. All that said, I’ve got no idea who I actually want and fear the reality is that no matter who it is, we’ll be having this same discussion in 2 years time.

Possible Gothenburg Anniversary Night in Glasgow
BobbyBiscuit replied to BobbyBiscuit's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Cheers, I'd imagine there'll be one or two events in your area that you can get yourself along to! -
There is a possibility of Glasgow’s Dons supporters team - Red Stars – organising a Gothenburg 30th Anniversary night (showing the game in full) in the pub that sponsors us, The Rock on Hyndland Road in the West End of Glasgow. Obviously we would need an indication of numbers to see if this is viable, so if you are interested in coming along to it can you please reply to this thread?

Clearly not. All our players make mistakes, that is very true, but not all of them make the most basic of mistakes at such critical times at such a consistent rate. And we all know too that it's tough being a keeper, your mistakes are highlighted and punished the most of any player on the field... but that's the job, and he clearly isn't capable of doing it to the required standard at this level. Yesterday's major blunder was purely down to concentration as have a lot of his mistakes. He's in his early 30s now, that is not going to change now. However, the things he does (or doesn't do as the case may be) which may not result in goals going in are having a massive effect on the defence. He rarely comes off his line meaning the defence sit deeper than they should, particularly at set pieces. The defenders clearly have no confidence in passing the ball back to him resulting in rushed clearances often leading to throw ins in our defensive third, again putting us under more pressure - avoidable pressure. Part of me feels sorry for him, it must be a horrible feeling, but the bottom line is that we don't owe him a living and if we are to progress he has to be moved on. How he has survived this long at our club staggers me.

I’m not saying it’s the right choice of words – I certainly wouldn’t have used it – but the outrage on here is OTT

We’ve got much bigger and more important issues to get upset over than what’s said on Twitter.
-
As I said, it’s ridiculous, but as you admit it was at our connivance this occurred. Maybe if we weren’t so chronically mis-managed at the time we were still challenging, we could have got some of this money for ourselves. As much as we all hate Celtic, they’re not cheating here and don’t kid yourself that we’d be so morally upstanding that if we were in an identical situation that we’d spread the money out evenly to all clubs in Scotland. We wouldn’t and I wouldn’t want us to either. TF – I still really don’t think it’s anything to get upset over.
-
I think we really need to move away from this "The big bad Old Firm have ruined it for us". Aberdeen have fucked things for Aberdeen. Don't kid yourself it's anything other than that. We have been part of the set up that has allowed the OF to prosper (although I believe one isn't doing quite as well these days) and chronic mis-management throughout our club has resulted in horrendous performance on and off the pitch. That isn't their fault, that's our fault. Claiming otherwise makes us look like spoiled brats. A message of congratulations really isn't worth getting upset over. As unpopular as this will be, Celtic have qualified from a group containing Barcelona, a very good Benfica side and a decent enough Spartak side, why don't they deserve the money that comes their way as a result? If it was us in that situation, we'd want and expect all that for ourselves because that's the way the ridiculous set up works, just because it doesn't suit us doesn't mean it isn't right.

Will be the main man in the PR dept at "The Rangers", by all accounts.

There really wasn’t much in the game. Wanyama’s shot hits the other side of that post I am fairly confident the game would have petered out to a nil-nil. The main issue for me is that Magennis has absolutely no football intelligence whatsoever. He doesn’t pass it where he should or when he should, too often he doesn’t make the right runs and sometimes he doesn’t even make any run at all after he’s moved the ball on. He offered Hayes so little support; you could see Hayes expected Magennis to overlap him at times only for the big galloot to be standing still with no intention of moving. We didn’t lose the game because of him, but he’s patently not good enough for this level. We will struggle if Rae is out for any length of time, we looked very comfortable in the game in the first half without ever playing anywhere near our best and I think it was much the same as the first game of the season. Both times it has been very marginal, Celtic haven’t necessarily dominated us in the way they have done regularly over the years. I wasn’t happy with the performance, we were lifeless in the second half but I have faith the team will bounce back, as they have done already this season.

Brown has a better command of his area and actually comes off his line, whereas Langfield sticks to it and as a result puts his defence under enormous pressure. Brown goes down for low balls like a cow settling down for the night. As does Langfield. Neither are good enough.
-
We were brutal. Didn't look like a team all night and only began to function semi properly when Andrson moved to centre half. Brown's selection and tactics were horrendous. Langfield, despite some good saves still does not command his area and this is still a massive problem. Mcginn has not impressed me at all since signing. Our midfield looks devoid of imagination, drive and passing range without Hughes and Jack. Osbourne was way off the pace and i think he's better at rb where he's coming on to the play. Thank fuck we're through but if Brown doesnt get his act together it'll be a fucking long season. P.S Jason Brown -fuck off. You're taking the cunt out the whole club. For anyone who never saw it he was faking to do a warm up when sent out by the bench. Disgusting behaviour for a pro.
-
Folks, If you are in the Glasgow area and can't make it to Pittodrie for the next couple of matches please get yourself along to The Rock in the West End (on Hyndland Rd where it meets Highburgh Rd). Should be a good few Dandies in and the more we get in the more it helps Red Stars. Hope you can make it along. Cheers

Aberdeen in Gothenburg. Tims in Lisbon. Sandy Lyle - Augusta, Player's Championship and The Open all within a few years of each other. It is a great achievement though, hope it's the first of many for him. Seems to have a different attitude with Lendl as his coach.

The system doesn't work, and won't work, with Vernon as the focal point. Getting the ball 40 yards from goal, and then laying it off to the wings means he then has to get ahead of the play again and he doesn't have the legs for it.
