Yeah but back then we had a network of scouts and contracts didnt seem to take months to sort out. I'd prefer my manager concentrated on the football side of things rather than having to juggle finances, cut deals and argue contracts with agents over the course of a whole season.
-
Aye but if it's on target then it's not usually deemed an O.G.

Youngsters Crawford & Clark not offed a new contract
Superstar Tradesman replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Nicky Clark just didn't make the cut. He did show it in streaks though. Hair today, gone tomorrow. -
Don't see it myself. Who we talking about here? Makro staff that are itching for an after work pint? McDonalds(or is it BK) workers that can't face another McLunchy? Or do you mean the Tullos/Altens workers with their subsidised canteens, free gyms on site or pack lunches who will queue up for a midweek pub lunch to keep the bar(s) out there busy? Honestly I can't see it ED, as much as I'd like it to be something special I just can't see it. AFC are probably what's helping keep the likes of the Pittodrie Bar and The Broadhill Bar open. I'm sure they've both got a steady flow of locals in the door each week that miiiiiiight keep them ticking over but I'd doubt the two owners of those places would, given the money to do so, move their bars to outside Loirstone. There's just nothing there. Of course there's a chance houses could spring up around the ground but remember this is Aberdeen we're speaking about. You're not allowed to redevelop Pittodrie where it is, move it to Kingswells because of the people there or build a golf course out of town because a craw, once, sat upon a wa' Loriston? No objectors? No? Oh, there are, ach, that's just the fans, over-ruled, motion passed......

Pubs won't open in a field because 6 days a week and over a large part of the summer they'll have to close. Even the residents of Cove will have a half hour walk down country roads and along a dualler to get to it.

Agreed. That last album was utter wank. Heard singles by 'Band of Skulls' and 'The Strange Boys' today, think I'll have a snoop about them tonight. Anyone a fan?

What do you want to see for the rest of the season
Superstar Tradesman replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
Frost out those who are leaving now. Those that have been made offers but haven't signed are told to do so in the next week or they join the other non-commited players in the doghouse. New formations are tried out, new captains are given a run out to see how they cope and just for a laugh Mackie gets a chance at being Paul Scholes in midfield. -
Yes. She was quite fanciable before I knew she sang and wrote music. Now she falls into the stalk section.
-
She & Him. Very twee, a bit like Noah & The Whale, I like it. The chick who sings is in that film with Jim Carey, Yes Man.

You win. Next up for me - BRMC

Oh aye, we're playing Killie the morn
Superstar Tradesman replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
By pish you mean qualifying for European competitions and not talking about relegation? -
-
That's largely what my Relegation / Administration threads were about a week or so ago. Although not entirely serious there was something in me that thought it would bring about some badly needed change. Change that we won't see under Milne and a situation where he leads us forward on doesn't look like it will change anytime soon. I'll always be a red but the games I don't have to turn up to, the commentary I can switch off and the tv I can turn over. I can't not be a red though. Like the aids, it's in my blood.

Caught Buddy Guy last summer and just missed Buena Vista.

Haven't actually seen where this quote came from but I'm guessing it's came from McGhee? If so it's quite a smart move saying it whether he meant to or not. If he lists 100 players who aren't outwith the realms of possibility and the guys holding the purse strings knock them all back then he's not the one shown to be fucking things up for us. I still can't see where all this money is going to come from though and trying to replace a whole team on Bosman deals will inevitably mean those players will wait til the very last minute before signing in case someone comes in with a better deal. In otherwords we could be in for a clusterfuck supermarket sweep for the bargain bins.

McGhee: I cannot wait for the clearout
Superstar Tradesman replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
He must have been promised cash to spend in the summer otherwise he's gonna look fuckin stupid not only to the fans but the players he'll be working with who he'd hinted at wanting rid of. -
New grounds to visit, chances to win silverware, promotion play offs, realistic possibility of winning the league..... Sounds like a breath of fresh air! Keep up the good work McGhee.

Aberdeen Football Club. The debt is a noose round our neck and although it's not going to snap our necks it is slowly choaking us. We're not going to pay it off anytime soon and I'd suggest that selling players off here and there like Anderson or Miller hardly even takes a chunk out of it. There's the youth players we're bringing through but I'm not willing to watch another 5 or 10 years of this pish in the hope that they'll all be sold off for megabucks. When was the last time any player outside the OF were sold for 5 million plus anyway? Craig Gordon? We'd still need two or more of them and I just can't see it.
-
The end of the club in what way? Low attendances? No money? Shite cup runs? Defeats to lower league teams? The city falling out of love with the club? Shite football? We're already there.
-
Fair skite, aye!

Would it be that bad a thing? Aberdeen, along with 9 other teams in the league have no other thing to play for other than scraps from the O.F. table. Game after game, season after season. The Dons, Hibs, United, Hearts and whoever else sneaks in to have a nibble at the breadcrumbs left over for a day in the sun or a 3rd place fucking in the arse from some no-mark team we've never heard from on a Tuesday night once a year. Whoop-dee-fuckin-doo. Come to think of it I'm not surprised the players can't get up for a season where the best they'll manage is a win against a braying mob of 5000 in the hope you'll reach the dizzying heights of a now and again top three finish. Whoop-dee-fuckin-doo. I think most of us will agree that most of the players who have played for AFC have not been of a high enough standard. In fact I know for a fact that a bright young star of not too long ago gave my brother more of a lift from seeing him fit his hall carpet than he ever did from seeing him pull on a red shirt. So would it be that bad to see them actually having to give a fuck after a shock to the system of dropping down a league? The players would have something to play for - promotion into the prestiege of the SPh(el)L, increased (cough) wages, the chance of bringing down a giant in the cups, winning the league, different grounds to play against and different opposition for the first time in fuck knows how long. We might actually win something sometimes. Leeds were well supported and still seem to have kept a decent, loyal, excited support watching their team work their way back up. God knows the Scots love an underdog and we've endured a lot worse than getting beat by Livi 3 or 4 times in one season. In fact none of us are raise an eyebrow when those types of results roll through. So why fucking not? Top 6, the odd pummelling abroad or a 3 hour bus journey down to Hampden once every decade for a sniff of a trophey. Whoop-dee-fuckin-doo. I think I'd look more forward to a trip to Arbroath on a Saturday knowing we were in with at least a chance than a trip to Falkirk knowing we're going to struggle. Apathy Football Club. To be honest, I'm well past caring. You?
-
Well? Would it be a bad thing? What have we got to lose other than £10m in debt and some cunt who doesn't plan to cough up for it? The banks that gave us the cash in the first place don't really have a leg to stand on because they've all been bailed out themselves. Worked for Motherwell in the fact that they're not any further up nor down than they were before other than now having cash in the bank................ albeit not enough to buy a decent pitch......... but then neither do we. Portsmouth are facing the axe but who really believes they're going to vanish off the face of the earth without staying alive in some sort of form? Dundee went a bit daft with money, Leeds even more so, but they're both on the rise and being talked about in a good light rather than having their names printed in the press after words like "dismal" and "struggling". So?
-
Bullshit. Fucking bullshit. Anyone of us could re-write that little ditty with three managers that were given time, support and the amount of patience that saints would struggle to give so readily. It would also be easy to list all their failures, embarrassments and ultimately the reason why someone at the club is now writing this open letter. It's a whimsical and fanciful jack-a-nory written by some nameless soul who has no pull at the club to actually change the current clusterfuck. There's only one man who should have written that letter and that's the man who has the resources to do something about it. There should have been promises made as to how the club were going to weather the current storm and assurances that the manager was going to be backed financially to make the changes required. Well fuck you Milne, we've done our bit as far as I'm concerned. Over to you.

Strachan - Don fans are morons
Superstar Tradesman replied to mizer's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
We are morons. But only because we continue to support this continual shambles of a football club.
