  1. I think rewriting history is probably unfair (although maybe not on Twitter!). This scenario, in my view, was obvious. I suggested it at the time. It was Hartley all over again. A good player for a few months, until he isn't. We pandered to a Tim legend and made it out to be signing of the century. We overlooked the fact that he was massively involved in the racial abuse of one of our own, making us look utterly pathetic. It was a weak as fuck move which didn't pay off, and was never likely to have. There is zero evidence we gained anything from his coaching, and on the park, despite some good early performances, we got a guy thriving on playing the panto villain rather than developing a partnership between Ferguson, McRorie and another. We didn't have a single player in that area of the pitch that was ever going to benefit from any experience that Brown had to offer, all it did was give a guaranteed slot to a guy on the wane. It was a fucking awful move from a poor manager, and I'm guessing that it'll have unsettled the dressing room, setting us back even further too. It was an utterly naive appointment that shouldn't have happened. Hopefully Cormack will learn from it, and hopefully the fallout won't spill over into the Goodwin era. The problems were all stated up front, so hindsight isn't relevant here either.
  2. I think you're right. However, if I'd said to you at the end of last year that there was a Russian billionaire looking to invest serious cash in the Dons, what would you have said? I suspect you, and plenty of other Dons fans would be loving it. Just as there are many in the North of England happy to suck from the teat of middle Eastern dictators. People who are directly responsible for deaths occurring right now. Morals go out the windae when money is promised. The morons shouting about Ibrox disaster (I'd possibly have been one 25 years ago) aren't the club directors who watched on as the stadium was allowed to get in a state of disrepair, ignored warnings and then took virtually zero blame, they're just thick people who think what they're saying is banter. They're not the poison in our game, they're utterly meaningless. Just as the Huns that sing their sectarian bile aren't the real problem, the club that has spent the last decade since its inception stirring the pot, winding them up, encouraging and showing an utter lack of humility is. I think Aberdeen could do more though, and perhaps you should contact them about it. I'd love to see them get their media team on it and make a video in direct response to those fans singing their pish. Interview the victim's families and try to really imagine what that mean if AFC were in that position with interviews with our own fans. I don't believe that those singing about the Ibrox disaster have ever really thought about the disaster itself. I suspect many would show considerable empathy if challenged. The singing is merely their ego. It's like competitive edginess. Trying to push the boundaries of acceptability - stupid rather than poisonous. I suppose it's the original form of trolling.
  3. With the diplomatic situation in Ukraine, I'm guessing they'll be wanting him out there, what with his Nobel peace prize. Apparently he's going to be addressing parliament via video link later to talk about his decision.
  4. The beasts are oot at the moment, but more behind the village rather than in front, so the cliff tops should be free. Haven't followed it right to Findon, I've generally just cycled the back roads in that direction. Will have to give it a try sometime.
  5. Have to watch the locals there though. There's a nice beach at old portlethen too, all on the same route.
  6. Agree with this. MacKenzie did okay when he came on, although possibly at fault for the goal? Gallagher played well today, the level we should be expecting. Bates did okay but then played three atrocious passes in a row and shook the confidence of the whole team. He's trying to play passes with his right foot that should be left footed and his body shape is all wrong. It just doesn't work. Thought Polvara looked like a nothing player in the few minutes we saw him. Not particularly strong, behind the play and not very dynamic. The obvious caveats of it being a tiny contribution in a game that was already gone. I don't think we'll see much of him between now and the end of the season. First opinions can regularly be wrong of course, plenty of time for him.
  7. I don't think that's fair. We've tried to play a bit when we have the ball, we just look like we're lacking in organisation. It doesn't seem like we've overloaded the defence.
  8. I've never been convinced by McKenzie, and I don't think you drop Hayes for him away at Ibrox against a fast opponent. Ramsay maybe not fully fit. Bar a couple of slightly Ojo moments, tanking out of position for no reason, he's been good. The whole defence actually. McRorie really helps in there despite his final ball being honking. Ramirez putting in a shift but struggling with the ball. McLennan probably the weak link, but that could be as much to do with their setup allowing the space for tavernier as much as McLennan. Besuijen been okay. Overall, were doing okay, we look disciplined and well organised.
  9. Polvara to come on and score a hat trick. Brown oot.
  10. I agree. Exactly the same as the Utd guy at the weekend. However, it's important to note that it constitutes a penalty in today's game and VAR would definitely not have overturned. We would have had a three minute wait while the ref watched 18 slow motion replays, back and forth, to determine whether there was "contact" or not, all the while ignoring the fact that it's a contact sport.
  11. He's the best defender at the club. Stronger than Bates, better concentration than Gallagher and better positionally than McRorie. We've tried to replace him and failed on numerous occasions. We should still be looking to replace him, but there's a very high percentage chance that we won't get someone better. We've been terrible at the back since he got injured.
  12. That was poor. Today highlights what happens when you fail to recruit in three consecutive windows. We're way behind hearts in terms of the two squads. There's 6-7 of their players that would walk into our team. Their whole defence, the two up front and probably McKay. We've got 7 or 8 that need to be shifted in the summer.
  13. Christ, it took us a long time to get into that game. We eventually do and score a perfectly fair goal. Overall though, they deserve their lead. I'd maybe consider McGeouch for Brown, albeit McGeouch a bit of a fanny. Kennedy been fairly anonymous too. It's not a great bench though.
  14. Hearts look decent. By far the better side.
  15. Looks like Ojo at right back, Hayes at left back and Brown back into midfield
  16. Doesn't really excuse the lack of team line
  17. You really don't get it do you? Dick Donald didn't go into debt to back Alex Ferguson. In other words, it didn't require the club to spend more than it took in to overcome the Huns and Tims. Our budget wasn't far removed from theirs. Today, it would require us to go into debt. Dick Donald would not have backed Alex Ferguson to overcome the scum today. Just go listen to sir Alex Ferguson, even he says the same.
  18. I'm confused. Our best chairman was from Aberdeen. Our best manager and players were from the central belt. We don't want a manager from Aberdeen. Does that mean we don't want a manager or players from the central belt? It doesn't really seem to me like you know very much when it comes to getting Aberdeen their first league success in forty years. Which is strange, because normally when I'm wanting well articulated ideas, thought through and presented in an easy to digest manner, I immediately think of asking someone who grew up in the central belt.
  19. The problem is that you're not sharing views on ways the club can move forwards. You've been asked multiple questions and ignored all of them. You're just shouting buzz phrases at your screen. To be fair, you have mentioned that you want fan ownership, which I think is a great idea. The biggest obstacle to fan ownership is people like you, unfortunately. People who ask for the world continuously, with zero ideas in how to get there. Fan ownership means no rich-man life-raft. You absolutely have to live within your means or you go to the wall (or a rich man comes in and buys out the fan ownesrhip). But imagining things is a very good starting point, so let's imagine Aberdeen win the league in, say, seven years time. Work us through the timeline from where we are now to a 43 year old Scott Brown lifting the trophy. What steps do we need to take to get the incremental improvements year on year? How do we get back to that high point under McInnes when we got our best (and anyone else outside the scum) ever points return of 75 - and maintaining it? Once we've got there, how would you get that total up to ~85 points and maintaining it? Then how do you propose getting it to around 90 in order that we might win a league? Would you envisage any structural changes that might weaken the duopoly, or do you think it can all be done by AFC?
  20. 1) You want someone like the Donalds (from Aberdeen) to buy the club 2) they mustn't be from Aberdeen 3) the club must be under fan ownership
  21. I'm guessing they'll be split down the middle. Plenty of Clyde fans weren't happy first time around, but they weren't listened to. He can probably ply his rapey trade at that level without too much publicity, but he can count himself lucky.
  22. Sounds like we could be in with a chance as Montgomery is apparently out. I'm heading into town shortly, I'll see if I can nick a traffic cone to replace him.
  23. The Donalds had the guts not to speculate to accumulate. We had zero debt until Milne came on the scene. It's a question of how much you're willing to speculate. Hearts speculated significantly in the early part of the century and went bust, winning only a couple of cups in the process. Would that be the level of speculation? Operating regularly with wages more than turnover? How long for, and to what end? Would you agree that using hearts as a benchmark, we'd likely have to spend more than they did? What does speculate to accumulate even mean in the context of the current spfl? Would you be willing to accept gradual progress, or do you want it right now? You see, the problem that you have is the accumulate part of the equation. The level of speculation required to win the league is far more likely to see us going bust rather than to accumulate returns. The Huns are running at a ~£10M loss yearly and haven't yet reached the champions league - i.e. there has been no accumulation. Do you really want the Dons to carry that level of debt? I don't. But let's be honest here, you're not asking us to speculate to accumulate at all. You're asking Cormack to spend his own money, at his own risk, chasing a goal with extremely long odds very little return. Just be honest.
  24. It's those bloody Ukrainians that are the real problem. Get them expelled, with a 3 goal victory for their next opponent.
  25. Interesting you chose Bayern Munich and not the Tims, or the Huns! But you're right of course. The first step should be to get back challenging for 3rd after canning our last manager. Then we look at incremental gains beyond that. I have to admit, I couldn't give a shite whether fans think it's acceptable or not either, as that has no bearing on reality. I am interested in hearing LBM2021s ideas in where he thinks we can make the improvements behind the scenes or on the park in order to close that gap over - say - the next five years, and if that includes remaining within the 3:5 wages:turnover ratio. Also, I'd like to hear more about the areas in which Cormack is failing where Milne was a success. It'd be great if the explanations didn't include nebulous terms such as "belief", "ambition" and "thinking outside the box" without supplementary detail about what the fuck they actually mean.
