Well, bored. Any transfer gossip? The only player out there I'm aware we've been linked with is McGeough. Anyone else out there?
-
I think it's at least a more predictable game than we've had in the past. No travel issues, no weather issues, they are in preseason too, and we will know their players. They aren't spectacular by any means, all depends on our starting 11. Two or three more decent signings needed before we face them but I think they are beatable. As someone mentioned already, Everton struggled against Limassol, no reason we cannot challenge Burnley. Yes, 7th in 'the best league in the world' but they're a blue collar team with no thrills.
-
I still expect an attacking central mid on loan like Christie and possibly a wide player too.

Interesting interview on Red TV. He's never met McInnes but already speaks very highly of DM and he sold him on a move north. Definitely one of DMs strengths. Sounds like Gleeson is the defensive midfielder we've badly needed for years. I'd be quite happy with Gleeson and Shinnie, with Forrester ahead of them. McGeough is a long shot but not so desperately needed now, but saying that, if we got him Shinnie can be moved back to LB. I'd still prefer a new LB though and leave our captain in the middle of the park. In my dreams a new LB and McGeough to give us quality depth, especially with Tansey most likely leaving. Still need a LB, another center mid, wide player, and a forward.

Obviously McKenna shouldn’t be sold but if we were to sell him for anything less than 5 million I’d feel we screwed ourselves.
-
I’d take Johnny Ball over either.
-
Anyone find out anything about Gleeson? What type of central midfielder??
-
Sounds like DM ran into Kenny Miller by chance on holiday in Florida. Not exactly a meeting but all media the have run with it. Don't see him at Pittodrie next season. Next.

Pittodrie...What Will You Miss Most?????
LA-Don replied to SeeBass's topic in Aberdeen Football Club
I’ll miss the fact that I’ll not get the chance to go to pittodrie again. I only ever went once. Can’t believe once considering the amount of games I went to growing up, but being from Lanark I’d go to regular away games at Rangers Celtic Hibs Hearts Motherwell Hamilton Killie Dunfermline Falkirk Airdrie Raith, Hampden a bunch too, but getting my old man, a Morton fan, to drive further north than Perth was a stretch. I played the majority of Saturday mornings so traveling any distance wasn’t possible, then played while in college Saturday afternoons and then moved to the US. 3rd January 1998, beat Dundee Utd 1-0 with Windass scoring, fucking freezing too! I was 25, brought the girlfriend who became the ex wife from America to meet the parents, she was fascinated by the amount of Santa’s screaming fuck and cunt every 2 minutes. Very envious to hear the pittodrie stories! -
I am optimistic and will give this guy my support......but.........this is very much a typical Aberdeen DM signing after reading all the comments (particularly from Peterborough fans.) Sounds like he's lost his form, used to be a stud, much like Stevie May, GMS, Stewart, etc when we signed them. Fingers crossed!!

We wouldn't give him a new contract to be a back up, we have to see him as a long term replacement for Joe. That's why we need him out on loan. Whether I feel he's good enough to be eventual number 1 is a different story, but we wouldn't be giving a new contract to someone his age just to be a back up keeper.
-
Yes, send him on loan. No point in him being here while we have Joe. 1st team experience and competition will only make him better. Find a Neil Alexander type to sit on the bench.
-
What’s the latest with this guy? Will he be fit for preseason and the start of the European campaign?
-
Would you sign Jordan jones? Couldn’t get a game at Middlesbrough, and was on loan at Hartlepool and Cambridge before Killie picked him up. Chris Cadden from a lower level Scottish team? Naismith from a championship team? Moult is a good example too. We can’t compete financially that these are the players we need to look at. Maybe uninspiring but he gets some good feedback that I’m willing to give him a try. I’d never heard of joe Lewis, shay Logan, even McKenna was uninspiring at ayr united and look what happened this year.
-
Looks like him? How so? From what I gather he's a solid midfield playmaker type, OConnor was a semi athletic slow defender with one leg. Can't we give the guy a chance IF we do indeed sign him?
-
Looked them up last time around - According to Wikipedia Baldwin is a central defender/right back/midfielder, and at 18 our own Neale Cooper called him a young Alan Hansen. Forrester has been in the Republic of Ireland squad and has been compared to Michael Carrick. By the sound of this we could do with both!
-
Absolute shocker from Archer when Mulgrew was in control of the situation. Peru player had an open goal and belted the ball right at McKenna, nothing intentional but struck his arm. Poor game, they are 11 in the world apparently and look pretty wank.
-
Any sign of the away or third strip yet? Are we doing 3 new ones this year?
-
I think big Ash is a good comparison. Ash was great in the air and had the odd spectacular highlight, an occasional excellent game, but overall, like OConnor, was an accident waiting to happen. Just like Ash, I have minimal confidence in AOC, it's just a matter of when, not if, an accident will cause a goal. Just because AOC had a solid post split does not a good player make.

What does May contribute? I really was happy we signed him and want him to do well but he just runs around a lot and creates little. Rooney is a penalty box poacher who fed off Hayes and McGinn, and was the right place right time guy. I just don’t see what May has done to impress you. He doesn’t suit the way we play and DM doesn’t appear willing to change (pretty much the same with Greg Stewart.)
-
I think we have to be smart/realistic regarding Rooney. With McGinn and Hayes in their prime Rooney thrived off their pace and service. With less pace from wide May was a different type of forward signed but that hasn't really worked. We didn't appear to adjust tactics to fit May's game. We cannot expect Rooney to do what he's incapable of doing.......basically anything outside of the penalty box......so it really depends on who else we sign, the pieces set up around Rooney, and the tactics employed. Saying all of this, I agree with the post saying that Rooney is ineffective against higher level teams and I for one want a higher level striker. We missed the boat on Moult who would have suited our style of play. I'm far from convinced with Cosgrove but do wonder if a Cosgrove/May partnership would work, but that requires 4 strong midfielders providing service and support, and we don't have that.
-
The England squad has very few quality players. Work with three die hard English guys who don’t rate the squad or their chances at all. Remove Deli Alli and minimal creativity in midfield. Sterling had a great season but a big part of that was the quality around him drawing attention. An injury to Kane hurts them big time. Don’t expect much from them at all.
-
Seriously, who? Lewis McKenna and Shinnie are our top players, and the first two just got new improved deals. Shinnie for sure is due one with a year left and who is to say that he’d get a better offer than McGeough. The rest don’t deserve more than a player like McGeough.
-
And all the media knows this how exactly??
-
Andrew Shinnie released from Birmingham today. There’s a good player who lost his way. Cheap squad player?
