  1. From the BBC Despite a long trip down from the north-east in midweek, Aberdeen fans are outnumbering the home support 1,956 to 812 at New Douglas Park.
  2. Well, for one that scores so few, good for him!!
  3. Not surprised Arnie is out, save the old legs from brutal turf. I feel for Storey, very clear he's on the out with us giving Maynard the start as the latter is the only one in the long term plans. Makes sense but curious to see how this plays out if Rooney is out for much longer. Maynard scores a hat trick tonight and all worries are gone!
  4. We can certainly agree to disagree and we won, that's all that matters. However, it blows me away that you and others think this. If you've played and/or coached you'll know what happened with KM is very common and easy. More often than not a first time shot from a cross or cut back gets hit high, often over the bar. The more the player shooting is under pressure/avoiding a challenge the shot is rushed, so Kenny doesn't get over the ball in time. As a result he leans back, swings hard to get the shot off quickly, and balloons it high. What Storey did is hard, takes a special kind of talent, and was from a baw hair from scoring!!! Anyway! I'd take either chance on Wednesday and expect to score!
  5. McLean has proven he cannot hit a cow's arse with a banjo, we've all known that. His scoring record is poor to say the least. Storey is a forward, he's meant to score goals. Both are poor misses. However, McLean's was a scoring chance and he missed it. Storey did something many of us didn't think was possible!
  6. Shinnie and Maynard both had easier chances than McLean. Nice finish from Storey, didn't hear what DM said of Storey, do share! If he stays at the club I'd actually like to see him given a shot, not inspired by Rooney, Stockley, and Maynard .
  7. McLean ballooned the ball over the bar while being tackled I think. Storey's ball was rolling along the ground on the goal line and my memory suggests he megged himself then cleared it. Paul Daniels couldn't do that.
  8. To me today was all about the win and that's it. Preseason is a joke with competitive games in it. Not judging any player or team performance, happy with the win. In 5 competitive games a forward has scored 1 goal. Apparently DM said Maynard was a finisher? Round the keeper and smash it in, it wasn't that bad of an angle. A player lacking in form and confidence, that goal would have done him a world of good. We either need to sign Moult or I suggest we give Miles Storey a run in the team. Storey will bring pace to the team and surely he'd love the opportunity to prove a point.
  9. And we paid 250k for Kenny McLean! We were robbed!
  10. I know it means fuck all but Apollon have got Midtjylland in the playoffs. Good draw for them! Fuck!
  11. Well, now that 24 hours have past, trying to put things into perspective. Think we're seeing way to many overreactions but to each their own. We've had a bitch of a summer. 4 of our starting 11 left and arguably two of our best players in Hayes and McGinn - the two most influential attacking players on our team. We then nearly lost our manager. I still believe we've signed good players in GMS, Tansey, Stewart, Christie, and Arnie - 5 proven good players who can and will excel at SPL level, and I think better quality signings than we've signed in previous summers - that's a positive! No clue about Maynard though. Europe came too early for us. Not enough time to gel, the squad isn't at the same level of fitness, too much too soon. The last 3 seasons we came into Europe with virtually the same squad so we didn't have these issues. For what it's worth, I'm one who would like to see summer football, February to November or the likes - think Scottish football would benefit. It was a flat performance, not sure why. Christie and Shinnie, our two best players over the last 3 games, didn't do too much, and the rest were just off. Players are good enough to win that game, opponents were very average, weather wasn't any worse that we've excelled in before, such an opportunity missed. It just wasn't there yesterday but now gives us an opportunity to focus on a good start to the league and the league cup - Europe is exciting though, I'd rather we had to deal with the 'inconvenience' of Euro run......especially when it brings in more money. DM said that since we missed out on Maloney that we may sign more - he was non committal but said it would depend on performances. Thought yesterday said a lot and I'll probably be contradicting what I've posted recently. Think we need for sure 2 players. Think we need another Shinnie (not Andrew), a battler in the middle of the park. Goes back to us losing Robson and Flood, we lack bite and drive in the middle. We have plenty of so called flair players, but we need another combative battler, a lot is placed on Shinnie's shoulders and when he's not quite on we miss his drive and determination. We rely on McLean too much and he's too inconsistent. Another players adds to the competition for playing time there and that's a good thing. We need another forward. Not sure if Moult is the answer but willing to go with him. Shockley is fast becoming the next blame guy. Not going to debate his ability or lack of but he will be the new Darren Mackie or Ryan Jack and don't see it working out for him here. Maynard did't look too bad yesterday but we're hoping here, I'd rather take on Moult. I think we've got the most out of Rooney we can get, but he also relied a lot on the service of Hayes and McGinn. They've gone and more is being asked of the forward. Don't think Rooney is capable of more. If we want a higher level of results we need higher level players which means a new forward is needed, it's time. Rooney got us this far, time to step aside. It's going to take time for a new team to gel. I also think we need to adjust the tactics with new players coming in. A challenge to the coaching staff to perform with a new group. Time will tell but far too early to judge an entire team. Europe was ultimately preseason so tough to criticize too much.
  12. I would highly doubt it. DM is a very professional guy who has implemented a real professionalism around the team as far as I'm aware. We just played shit.
  13. Maynard GMS and Stewart were all thrown in at the deep end. Need time to settle and get fully match sharp with the rest of the boys. We're a fit team, they're not at that standard. Thought Maynard did better than Stockley but neither appear the answer. Harsh on Maynard, time will tell.
  14. Let's freshen it up a little! Lewis Logan - Arnie - Reynolds - considine Wright - OConnor - Tansey - Shinnie Christie Storey GMS Stewart and Maynard were thrown in at the deep end, give them time to settle and get fully match fit/sharp. Rooney has his limitations, Stockley is offering little at present. Give Storey an extended run or move him on and sign Moult asap. We need a pacey and lively forward and we're seeing so little from any center forward right now.
  15. Poor team performance, no player stood out, good or bad. Easy to single out or blame but ultimately the team didn't show up. Last year missing a penalty and a man sent off I was gutted, this year we were simply very poor and didn't deserve it. They were by far the weakest team that we've been knocked out by, huge opportunity missed. We have no forward on form and full of confidence. Don't think Rooney, Stockley, or Maynard would have mattered tonight. We didn't, as mentioned, seem to have any sort of attacking tactics, not sure what we were trying to do tonight and created so little. I can accept this will improve over time as we train with the new boys but we need to alter tactics. GMS and Stewart aren't McGinn and Hayes. They'll still do well I predict but we need to alter tactics a little. This means a new forward in my eyes or give Storey an extended run. We lacked pace in attacking tonight in my eyes and he definitely has that.
  16. Totally agree, we're flat, no real energy, but then again look at the second half in Bosnia, hope we get the same. Going to 3 at the back isn't a bad shout.
  17. Ref is getting card happy, three dons bookings in the last 5 minutes. Maynard (or bring in Scott Wright and stick Stewart up top) needs to replace Stockley or we do end up playing with 10.
  18. Arnie on the bench and Stockley up top. Come on ye reds!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. I can't believe some are suggesting the 4-6-0. That's giving the way too much respect. I didn't think they were that good and we go to win the game. Sitting on a 2-1 is suicide. Wouldn't be surprised to see a back 3 with wing backs but fully expect Shockley or Maynard, probably Shockley.
  20. I actually thought we signed GMS instead of Maloney. Is there a quote from DM saying he'll pursue someone else with Maloney no longer an option?? We've got Stewart, GMS, Wright and Christie all very capable of the wide role, plus Stewart, Christie and McLean can all play behind the forward. I dont think we need another creative mid or wide player, I see that hurting Wrights development.
  21. Agree with the back 5. Stewart will drop out with Arnie added, GMS provides pace to get up and down, Stewart not so much. Think we'll see Stockley start this one.
  22. Lived in LA over 12 years. There is so much to do here, you can be a tourist with the sightseeing etc. or you can do music, sport, art, the beach etc. All depends on your interests. If you get a chance go and watch a Galaxy game - I'd be interested on your take on their stadium and the level of play. I've done a couple of coaching courses and played at the Stub Hub facility, pretty cool venue, but haven't been to a game sine Beckham left.
  23. Two different goals in a sense but both came from crosses from the left side of defense that we didn't even affect or get a touch on the cross despite having a defender there - that's disappointing. For the Siroki goal O'Connor is there but doesn't block/affect the cross the scorer is completely unmarked, poor defending and ball watching and poor tracking back from either Christie, Stewart, or GMS, cannot remember who was right mid at that point. I'd put that down to fitness/not knowing our roles with it being our first competitive game.......both issues I think have been addressed/fixed.The Apollon goal came from poor defending from Considine who allowed the cross - GMS was right with the left back, just didn't get it.
  24. When is the draw for the next round?
  25. I'm still missing the point I think, I don't get what you're saying. Perhaps I am a fucking idiot. My point is that the nationality of a team means little in this day and age. Cyprus isn't the bench mark, no clue what you're meaning there. They had 2 Cypriots, they're not, in a sense, a Cypriot team. Just like Arsenal for a while were English without a single Englishman in the lineup. Football is all about money and nationality of a club team means fuck all now. They were a team of Europeans and South Americans most likely earning more than us and ranked above us. Paper talk meant we weren't meant to win. Scottish football is a joke, Milne nearly fucked our club out of existence, and it was a dramatic summer. Money rules football and most have more than us. But this summer were appeared to loosen the strings a little and performances give hope. We're still in Europe and yesterdays win gives many optimism. That's not a bad thing.
