Not many stand out performers today, with the back two just a total bombscare. Jensen nowhere near good enough for this level, and Gartenmann looks good when things are going well and honking when not. Devlin much improved when he removed the stupid mask. There are very few positions where you don't require a peripheral vision, fullback certainly isn't one of them, and we shouldn't be starting players with masks on unless absolutely forced, or the player is miles better than the replacement (Milne). McGrath was also terrible today, up until scoring, and Clarkson missed every pass, with Hoilett pish too. We were just extremely nervous, and we got lucky that County decided not to bother continuing their domination from the first half. Then Duk came on and gave one of his enigmatic performances. A wonderful turn and cut back for the second goal, the first touch was just class under pressure. We'd be sorted if he was in any way reliable. Your last sentence. The whole squad is based on two up top with the duk of last year playing. Zero plan B and that’s why we are here today. Duk is our super sub, although any decent money offered and he’s away. 1 Quote

manc_don Posted March 30 Author Report Posted March 30 Happy to wake to the result. Looking forward to the highlights when they’re out, but hard to judge anything from the footage I’ve seen (wobbly phone coverage), but I’d like to see the duk performance. needless to say, a much welcomed 3 points and something to build on. If we perform pish and get results that get us away from the danger zone, so be it. Quote

He seems to be a good coach and has stood up and made sure we have at least fought to grind out points despite the clown show going on in the boardroom and the Warnock debacle. I like the “no drama, get down to business approach”. No illusions that he wants the pressure of being the manager, just wants a coaching gig at a good club. Therefore on a personal level I hope he finds a bit of longer term job security with us, particularly if he’s actually good at his job which his track record and the respect the players seem to have for him would suggest. 3 Quote

We've got 2 CBs who look as though they are just don't want to challenge when the ball is pumped towards/crossed from wide and so jump for the ball without any conviction, added to that we've a keeper who seems much more intent on keeping (pun intended) his hair in place...the incident in the 1st half when the ball was played over the back line and he actually left his line but looked shit scared that the forward bearing down on him might make contact and was very lucky when he dropped the ball that the RC guy had gone beyond him (though to be fair his punch under pressure for their last corner kick was excellent). Feel you are being a bit harsh on Milne who isn't a FB and certainly isn't miles worse that Devlin - the time when they broke after one of our corners and we were caught short at the back, Devlin trotted back like an inferior Andy Considine. Totally agree, Ruby and McDonald attack and win the majority, the two today backed off. Not saying Ruby and angus are great, but at least they are aggressive and attack the ball. Very soft in the middle today. At 6’1’’ both should be much stronger, and especially when playing in Scotland, a central defender needs to be dominating in the air. Both today seemed to back away and county were left with space infront of our defense, plus I don’t recall gartenmann winning a header, he seems to hesitate plus lets the ball bounce. Thankfully we weren’t punished but plenty of teams would have damaged us there. These two cannot be long term solutions for us, just not good enough. 1 Quote

No, my point was that Milne should have been playing, I probably didn't write that properly. Quote

All of Robson's run in, and the start of this season, basically a 3-5-2. That said, your initial point about having only one up front against County is kind of irrelevant, it's easy to be more attacking (or less) with just one striker, if you get midfielders close to them. A 4-2-3-1 is almost certainly our best formation against most opponents. Quote
Jute Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 Shit game great result. Defensively very poor. Jensen and Gartenmann are not a pairing that works. Needs to be one of them paired with Rubi or McDonald. As Rico said Devlin was awful with mask on but got better once he took it off but still not great. Hoillet was really poor. Was supposed to be there to provide width but actually kept making us narrower but cutting inside. Duk made a difference when he came on. Just waiting for highlights to see how the first ended up in the net. Quote

Seemed to roll in at 5mph, absolute snails pace and the defender really should have saved it still, kudos of miovski for trying it. there was a ball barron put through in the first for miovski (saved), where is that Barron more often?!?
