BigAl Posted February 13 Author Report Posted February 13 Can't help but think there was a degree of inevitability about this after the recent St Mirren game. I liked Rubi, thought he was a real character and really wanted things to work out for him with us. I suspect he will be away permanently come the summer transfer window. Good luck lad 1 Quote
Jute Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 Shame. Think Club have fucked this. There is a player in there but pairing him with another inexperienced centre back was always going to end badly. 2 Quote
baggy89 Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 Odd one, didn't the club suggest we'd turned down a 7 figure bid in the summer? Unless there's personal reasons. Quote
DantheDon Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 From Thelins statement it sounds as if he had been told he wasn’t going to get game time. He reminds me of Efe Ambrose in that he was a decent player generally but just too prone to a howler. Quote
Elgindon Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 Might have got more out of him with a settled keeper, and experienced defence partner.Looked like he had the raw materials,....but also may have been wishful thinking. Next... 1 Quote
manc_don Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 Agree with jute on this, club have ballsed it up. Molloy probably hasn’t helped by being better than expected, but they should have identified a senior to pair one of them at any given time. It was clear McDonald wasn’t that guy before the summer window closed so not sure they could hide behind that one. anyway, I hope he gets his head straight but suspect Al is right and he’ll be off in the next window. Shame, we need characters like him. Quote
OrlandoDon Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 (edited) I don’t really agree with the blame the club mentality. I do agree with the Efe Ambrose comparison. Ruby is prone to major fuck ups, and that’s regardless of who plays next to him. Completely missing the ball, being badly caught out for speed, very poor on his left foot, getting caught out of position. Perhaps experience alongside him for the last one may help, but the main issue with ruby is he made personal mistakes and stupid decisions. Even the red card at Motherwell, he makes a stupid dive in tackle and then head butts, we had experience on the field when he did that. ruby just isn’t good enough, end of. Russel Anderson was pretty shit with us when he started his career, mainly at right back. With time and learning, and moving to central defense, he developed over the years. In the modern game a defender wouldn’t be given that time to learn, and with ruby I see the same mistakes now that I saw when he first arrived. His pace is the same, and he’s always been a bit too emotional. We can’t afford time give him time, and I think he’s shown that he’s not the guy we build around. Reekie_Red Posted Sunday at 19:46 Report Posted Sunday at 19:46 Spurs podcast is questioning why Dorrington has only appeared 4 times and started once. The podcast is suggesting Dorrington is our best defender. https://tothelaneandback.com/2025/02/16/john-wenham-frustrated-with-alfie-dorrington-aberdeen-situation/ Sorry, but from what I've seen and read, Dorrington is just not good enough. Notably the defence weakened when he came on vs Dunfermline. What's the thoughts of you guys who get to see him live in games? Are Spurs fans right to question his lack of game time, or is he just not that good? Quote

Notably the defence weakened when he came on vs Dunfermline. What's the thoughts of you guys who get to see him live in games? Are Spurs fans right to question his lack of game time, or is he just not that good? He's okay. Spurs fans don't have the slightest clue about the Dons back line. He isn't better than Tobers or Knoester. He's never going to be a left centre half for them either, or anybody else at a highish level. I think he'll be a very good right centre half in a few years, he has all the attributes of one, just very raw. I think loaning of young players for defence is a bit stupid, as you really want to be building a partnership for the future. I especially think we made a mistake on Dorrington, because he isn't left footed. I hope we don't see him in a Dons team again, but not because of the lad himself. It would mean that we've either had an injury or suspension or - more importantly - that he's getting a game ahead of Milne. If there are any injuries, left or right of defence, Milne should be first called upon. Then Molloy when he's fit. It's a shame for Dorrington, but I think we pulled the trigger a little early with his signing, and Knoester turning up a week later has basically ended his illustrious Dons career. I understand why the club did it, there's nothing guaranteed in transfer windows, it's just a shame that it's a young lad involved. Hopefully he'll get some benefits being here regardless. I wouldn't like to see us giving him minutes through any sense of obligation though. Edit: I was assuming that Milne was returning in the next week or so. Maybe that isn't the case. Jute Posted Sunday at 22:31 Report Posted Sunday at 22:31 Milne is supposed to be back in full training so would expect him to be back in next couple of weeks. As for Dorrington if you cannot get a game at your club when every other centre back is injured then that should be telling you something. They even played an 18 midfielder ahead of him. Quote
