Apparently a deal for Lyall Cameron isnt yet out of the equation

He's a great player. Although I'm not convinced that we need another player vying for that one role that we have three other guys looking to play in.

What's Cameron's position? Is he a central / defensive midfielder? If so, we have an abundance of options in there already. If it's attacking midfielder, then could be a good shout esp with McGrath now out long-term

Also wondering what's going on with Miovski. Getting almost no game-time for Girona these days, not even making the bench. Would he come back to us, even on-loan?

Miovski is injured.

Cameron plays number ten in our system. We don't have an abundance of options for defensive midfielder. We play a 4-2-3-1, and Cameron would play in the centre of the three, as would McGrath (injured), Clarkson, Gueye and Polvara (injured). For the sitting 2, we have Shinnie, Nilsen and Palaversa. Obviously we could shoehorn players between the roles, but those would be the preferred positions of the aforementioned.

This mornings "newspapers" upping the rumours that we are hijacking Rangers bid for Cameron. Dundee Courier also indicating this, stating we are using our recent onselling abilities as a lure against what would obviously be a higher salary. Dundee expecting similar compensation as we received for Barron

The big plus side for us over Sveco is we can point out to Dundee we'll actually pay it.

Lyall Cameron is a really interesting one. If he’s a rangers fan he goes there, but if not, I think it’s an interesting choice for him. He’s Scottish which has the appeal for me, although we don’t really need another 10. I’m eager to see gueye there, plus clarkson and polvara are there. I’m assuming McGrath leaves. But is Cameron an upgrade on every player we already have? And does he produce more week to week than our guys??

Look at Barron, in and out the rangers team, Scott wright a good example too. Not guaranteed decent playing time. Yes champions league football, but will he be watching or playing. Do the Huns grow players to move on to bigger and better things? No.
compare him to Louis Ferguson, we were perfect for him. That’s exactly what any player wants, now considered a top player in Italy and will walk into the Scotland team now I assume with mcgregor gone. Obviously McKenna mccrorie Ramsey miovski ramadani all show we can get the players the playing time and exposure to move on to bigger and better things. Interesting choice for the lad.

I think the hard sell might be the gulf in wages. I know Rangers aren’t in the best financial shape but if he’s offered 15k a week there compared to 5k with us he will probably go there. Its the difficultly for us shopping for proven SPL players. This is the equivalent of signing a Kenny Maclean, Scott Severin or Barry Nicholson but now Rangers are in for him I’d be very surprised to see him sign here.

Very true and totally agree. But how much money does Ferguson now earn and in the future versus Scott wright, and most likely Connor Barron. It’s a long term gain.

The lad Wales for Killie looks great, but out with our budget I expect.

Why 🤔

Out of contract at end of season unless I am mistaken

Out of contract at end of May. I am guessing there will be far bigger clubs than us interested who will offer much higher wages.

So we can apparently go after Lyall Cameron but not sniff around a lad who has played less than 20 games for Killie

Doesn't stack up for me and stinks of defeatist attitude

Let's just chuck the towel in now.

The biggest reason is that I thought he had a few years left. Let's get him signed.

I don’t think we will get Cameron either. No problem going for either but they are long shots and we need to have others lined up to bring in if this fails. Time to go for Cameron was last summer when there might have been less competition.

Got to think that means Mackenzie is not leaving in this window as would leave us with no left footed defenders at the club.

Or another one incoming 🤔

Do however think you are correct

Aye, that'd be interesting. Although it doesn't matter a whole lot if you don't actually play the only left footed defender.

Also, assume MacDonald is leaving in this window? Don't think we're going to be needing him in the run in. He was in the box behind me on Saturday, probably doing his bit in the corporate or whatever. Hadn't heard that he was injured, so assuming he's just not making the squad. I think we can cope with Tobers and Dorrington backed up by Rubi until May. If necessary, Devlin and MacKenzie can move across on their respective sides, with Jensen covering both fulbacks. Molloy will be back by March-ish too.

Murmurings off him heading down the A90 to the Saints from Perth 😉

MacDonald was good when paired with a competent CB, ie Pollock. Good luck to him wherever he eventually goes.

And McGarry, I feel sorry for him. He's one of our better squad players at the moment. Not a first pick, but not too shabby when he's been on. But as with quite a lot of our squad, simply not the level we actually need. Given he still has 18 months left on his contract, if Greek side Kallithea make any 6 figure offer then I'd take it

6 figure fee! Bloody hell! I'd fly him to Greece myself for that. That'd be an extremely good bit of business for us. I'd be happy to thank him for his time and let him move for a nominal amount (or nothing) to end his contract. It's not just that he's not good enough for us, he's not good enough for anyone at SPFL level (despite two or three okay performances). He'd fit in at the top end of the championship probably, I'm not sure guys there are going for six figures.

He was never "paired" with Pollock though, it was always a triplet, with Scales. He was good in the centre of a three, which might mean he's okay at St Johnstone. However, I think Valakari wants them to play out from the back, which might be an issue. As you say, good luck to him. I think he appreciated his time here, and seemed a nice guy.
