DantheDon Posted November 26 Report Posted November 26 I was just watching the BBC live reporting updates and was wondering what was going on. I think it’s a disappointing result with the way Hibs have been recently, but definitely highlights we are still a work in progress. By sounds of things we could do with a good experienced head at center back. So it might be time to give McDonald a run if he’s fit by the weekend. Quote
manc_don Posted November 26 Author Report Posted November 26 Well, I got the 3 bit right, just not the scorers or result couldn’t watch much of it because of work, but wasn’t able to watch from the 80th min so was surprised to see we’d drawn 3-3. Need to watch the highlights, but that was a pish game. Hopefully this funk we appear to be in is short term as there were a lot of players not at the races today, again. don’t think any of us would have had any qualms about who started the game, so I’m not sure what’s wrong. Soklers goal deserved to win any game, where has this guy been? Get we didn’t realistically deserve much from this, but the team let themselves down. can’t play like that on the weekend, that’s for sure. Lost count the number of wasted passes Nilsen made (not the only offender). 1 Quote
OrlandoDon Posted November 27 Report Posted November 27 That’s two shit games now, said it many times, teams haven’t punished our mistakes during our run, now they are. Arguably the two easiest of a tough four game run, on the last two performances could be 1 point from 12 after Celtic at home and very close to the Huns. central defense is a growing concern, plus another game nisbet is crap. Topi poor again too. Clarkson is off form. Mitov not looking so impressive now either. got to fight through this, hearts away will be tough but need a win! Obviously a great season to date, hope we can stop the wobble. Quote
RedKev Posted November 27 Report Posted November 27 This zonal marking pish is costing us so many goals!!! It needs to end. Quote

BigAl Posted November 27 Report Posted November 27 Apologies if I have missed something here, but why was Dante Polvara not on the bench last night. Was it purely tactical or has he had a set back with his injury ? Also worrying seeing Devlin going off and suspect he might be side lined for a while Quote

Aye, there was really only one defensive arse up for the goals last night, and that was down to switching off at the last. You could tell Shinnie was annoyed with himself for giving away the freekick, but 99 times out of 100 he'd get away with that. There was one corner when Bushiri got a free header, but we otherwise defended them quite well. I have an intuitive dislike of zonal marking too, but I'm sure that they've run the numbers on it and found some benefit. I'm wondering if it's changed since VAR? Were teams concerned about giving away penalties through grappling and shirt pulling in the box? Is it because teams spend way more time organising corner routines with players blocking and hiding behind one another making it difficult to pick up men? Either way, there's nothing difficult about zonal marking. All areas should be covered, and if there's a big hole it's because someone somewhere in the chain has left their zone. I guess it's just as likely that someone will leave their zone empty in zonal, as it is that someone loses their man when marking. It could be argued that the instructions never change in zonal, and so there shouldn't be the confusion of picking up the wrong player. I'd be interested to see if we give away a lot more corners than others? We seem happy to let a lot of balls come in from wide rather than go to the man, so perhaps we give away more corners and inevitably lose more goals from them. Perhaps someone from the BBC can provide an analysis? Quote

My dad is here visiting and we watched the game, we discussed that and I said all season it’s been pish. Man to man and do your job Quote

The last one I also look at ruby, comes up late to win the long ball and doesn’t get there - pretty sure ruby should have sat back and let sivert or other mids win it. I’m really concerned about high balls down the middle, Malloy isn’t good in the air and ruby ‘a decision making is shaky. Quote

As you say, it's those balls down the middle that should be bread and butter for Rubi. It's a concentration thing in my opinion, which is probably quite difficult to teach. It just takes switching off for a second for it to cause problems and he gets his timing wrong. It's probably why a lot of defenders improve with age, as their focus improves. I like the fact that we're bringing through two young defenders, and I'd be reluctant for us to break up that partnership, but it certainly comes with drawbacks. Quote

Agreed, we stick with it and hope they develop, no point in bringing in Macdonald as he comes with his own flaws. Until we sign someone better it’s who we have, but it’s certainly a learning on the job experience for both which will have bumps in the road. Quote

Did we ever play Jensen (for a run of games) in the middle left of a back 4? Molloy’s comfortable on the ball but weak in the air, rather inexperienced and gets caught out of position, ruby isn’t the quickest and loses the head at times, what does Jensen bring? I was a little surprised he went on loan without really getting to know and prove himself to JT. Would rather have a look at him than Macdonald. Quote
Jute Posted November 27 Report Posted November 27 Jensen has only managed 5 games in Denmark and not got kicked a ball for Vejle and since start of October. Guessing he might not be answer to our problems. Quote

As you say, he doesn't look like the answer unfortunately Quote
Goldie03 Posted November 27 Report Posted November 27 (edited) I was in Hibs hospitality last night and they were so up for beating us it was like they hated us more than any other team ever!! Interestingly a couple of them proper slagging off Rubi and saying all he ever does is punt the ball out and once I saw that I couldn't unsee it the whole fucking game!! It was played franatically like a cuptie that 2nd half, really enjoyed watching us play forward but the defence was rank. Thought we relaxed too much when we went 2-1 up and should have cracked on for another goal. Nervous about Sunday but always am when we play at Tynecastle Edited November 27 by Goldie03 Quote

Reekie_Red Posted December 2 Report Posted December 2 We need a couple of them. Rubi has become a bombscare. Angus is just not up to it. Molloy is okay but needs a competent defensive partner to learn from. What's Pollock up to now? Quote
