Saints haven’t won a game in the league since Boxing Day, which was against rangers in fairness, but they did also beat queens in the cup at the weekend, which was also away from home.

their form whilst a bit patchy at the moment, is still better than ours, but if we have any ambitions to stay in the top six, let alone try to challenge for 3rd (sigh), then we need to start pulling some results in.

Didn’t think we played particularly well last Saturday but hopefully win will have lifted the confidence of the players. Would assume Gueye will start and Ambrose to be replaced by Nisbet. Hopefully Keskinen is fit and can start. St Mirren are big physical side so if MacKenzie is fit I would be tempted to play him at left back and move Jensen into midfield to provide a bit more strength and pace. Still not not sure if going up yet. Hopefully the worst weather will be through and doesn’t affect the game yet.

1-1 Gueye

The winner at Elgin will have helped confidence. But i think moreso it has given Jensen, Okkels, Dorrington and Tobers all some valuable competitive game time, and also given the squad a full week between fixtures. Gueye will help the other forwards too by being a general nuisance. Hopefully this will all contribute to is snapping our league losing streak

Nisbet did nothing last weekend to suggest he deserves a place in front of Ambrose.  Ambrose may have his technical faults but he's a trier.  Nisbet is a lazy bastard and wouldn't even make my bench.

Ambrose looked sub league 2 standard on Saturday. I just cannot see how we can continue with him as he looks well off the standard required. Nisbet looked okay with Gueye earlier in the season and scored goals previously in this league for us. Until we get a replacement in think we have to stick with Nisbet.

Nisbet is a difficult one, he really needs someone hitting the line and either firing it across or cutting it back to him. For large parts this season, it hasn't happened. Gueye will occupy defenders, draw them out and give the wingers a bit more room to make telling cutbacks. When you see Nisbet live (probably not obvious on the telly because of the camera angles), you can see he does have good movement in the box, but the defenders are always back in place and facing our goal by the time we get a cross in. Makes it far harder for any striker. What looks like laziness with Nisbet may just be that he's not getting the type of service he needs, and doesn't have the ability to create himself. Miovski was able to take a ball in, lay it off, and then be on the end of a 1-2. Nisbet can only do one or the other, and unless he receives the perfect pass, it's nearly always neither. It'll be interesting to see if Gueye makes a difference to him, by taking responsibility for the creative parts, ball holding and just generally occupying defenders.
