Utterly pointless stat.

Hearts are the designated home team for the semi, and they don't usually allow maroon & red to be worn together (even though they likely wouldn't clash), so safe to say we'll be in either the black & gold, or the granite strip.

Aberdeen have - at least as far as I am aware - never won a semi-final at Hampden wearing their away strip.

1994 SC semi: Drew 1-1 with Dundee United at Hampden (conceded last minute). In the replay, this time we were back in the red while United wore their away strip, but we lost 1-0.

1996 SC semi: Lost 2-1 to Hearts (both teams wore away strips).

2008 LC semi: Lost 4-1 to Dundee United (was at Tynecastle rather than Hampden).

2018 SC semi: Lost 3-0 to Motherwell at Hampden wearing a blue kit.

So the question is, have we ever won a semi (or final) at Hampden wearing an away strip?

It should be said - we have won at least one semi-final in an away strip. In 1947 we beat Hearts at Easter Road in the League Cup semi, while wearing an unusual blue top with white sleeves.

You bastard. Do you know how much I had to drink to remove those games from my memory and you have to go and bring them back up again.

I am now going to have spend my day off drowning the memories in drink again. I hope you are happy.

Early thoughts.

Hopefully Tobers fit for this. Dorrington not a bad player but his second half v Rangers shows he still has a lot to learn.

I'd like to see Sokler start ahead of Gueye, his pace would suit the big Hampden pitch more.

Wee hing I put together with Julia and Keith to get you in the mood for Saturday.

An Aberdeen fan marrying a hearts fan? Bit sick. Should the BBC really be showing that sort of thing?

Question for anyone who may have previous experience of the segregation setup at Hampden when we’re in the east side of the stadium (ie against the Protestant bigots):

Our tickets are in section D, turnstiles 40-49, so the north stand. Anytime I’ve been on that side of the stadium before it’s been for Scotland games and the easiest way to that area is from the mount florida/cathcart road area. With the jambos getting into their end from that side, is there likely to be segregation outside and, if so, how else will the Dons fans get to that section? I’m sure it’ll be obvious on the day but trying to pre-plan where to park and approach the stadium from.

There won't be segregation outside. Just steam through them. Rotate your arms in helicopter fashion, and if any Jambo gets hit then they've only themselves to blame.

Molloy, Mitov and McGrath all allegedly in contention for tomorrow but no mention of Tobers. Think I would go with Molloy and Knooster as centre back pairing. Dorrington makes too many mistakes for me. Mitov in for Doohan as well for me. Up front not sure I would play Gueye and would replace him with McGrath. Hearts are an eye bleedingly bad watch and cannot see them changing tactics for this. Not sure what will feel worse losing to a shite Hearts side or winning and then paying £50 for privilege of watching us get humped by Green Bigots.

In

Train then early opening pub in the weeg

East Stand

Pub in weeg to let Hearts fans fuck off then train back to capital.

2-0 Nisbet and McGrath.

I cannot remember there being segregation outside the stadium for non  bigot semi finals in the past. Been looking to see if there is anything on scotrail website to see if there is anything about the trains from Central for tomorrow but can’t see anything.

ETA - Now found it Aberdeen fans to use Kings Park which is shite as less trains than Mount Florida.

It would be very bold to go with a virgin cb pairing for a semi final, I can't agree with that one I'm afraid.  If it was defo going to be pre penalty miss Mcgrath I would be up for bringing him straight in but at best I think he will be on the bench.  Indeed, I think the only one of the three with a sniff of starting is Mitov.

You are right about Hearts being an awful watch though.  They have no real wide men either which should suit us considering the size of the pitch.  I'm defo looking forward to seeing how Morris and Keskinen get on with all that extra space to run into.

Of the three that are back fit, Mitov is the only one who realistically might start. McGrath an option maybe off the bench.

Jensen or Devlin? I think he'll stick with Jensen.

Gueye or a more mobile forward like Sokler or Dabbagh? I think Gueye starts because if Thelin expects Hearts to stick to their diamond formation, then there's a good chance to pepper their box early with crosses, which you want him on the end of.

Shinnie still at left back? He's an extra five metres to cover on that pitch. I would be tempted to start Mackenzie (if available) and put Shinnie into midfield. If it goes 120 minutes I do worry our options are limited subs wise in the middle with Nilsen out. However, as above, if Hearts play a diamond we'll get space out wide, and I think we'll work on Shinnie, Palaversa and Clarkson all putting crosses into the box.

Okkels or Morris? I think right back is a weak spot for Hearts and you want Keskinen targeting them there, so Morris on the right allows Keskinen to play on the left.

Aberdeen to race onto a 2-0 lead, then barely kick the ball for the last half an hour, but this time just about hold on.

I think the most likely way for Shinnie to be moved to the centre would be for devlin to come in at RB and Jensen to left.

Cheers. Seems like parking over at the east side of the stadium might be the way to go.

Kings Park is shite if they’re only putting on extra trains to mount florida. Expecting most Dons fans to be in buses and cars rather than trains I wonder?

I'd have left mitov out. Doohan has been solid and mitov for me was a bombscare in the last semi. Kept changing his mind and leaving CBs in limbo. Occasion got to him.

Main worry is that hearts will bully our midfield id gueye isn't in about it for second balls.

Otherwise probably as expected.

Well, interesting. Hearts the better team, we score against the run of the play, poor goal to lose, now playing against 10. Same as last week, we look young and inexperienced. We need an experienced head in the middle of the park, and not shinnie, game for sivert.

no clue how this goes, open game. Need Morris and topi more involved as their pace will cause more problems.

Posted

Will add that I don’t think we’ve been very good, need to start the second half much better, poor start to the first. Take the game to hearts. We just dont have confidence or swagger, we see that. Need to go at them and clearly show we want to win. They don’t look great at the back, get topi and morris involved, and gueye and nisbet will get chances.

Aye, Heart by far the better team. Palaversa has been anonymous, Jensen is getting bullied by "their" Devlin, and Knoester has been miles off the pace. But with them down to 10 men, a chance for us to hit them with pace. Morris has shown glimpses. Keskinen was through, so the red-card was very much the right decision. And who knew Gueye had lightning pace?!!! I always thought he was just a giant lump! Second half will certainly be interesting
