He's been able to build championship winning sides all throughout his career.  What is he on, his 5th or 6th side that he's had to build?

A few more European pots wouldn't go a miss, but lets face it, twas easier to win 30 years ago than it is now.

That doesn't get away from the huge achievement of turning a provincial team from the NE of Scotland into the best team in Europe in 1983.

Should say that I was reffering to the Champions League/European Cup there.

What he did with us was nothing short of amazing. :thumbsup:

Without a doubt the best ever, the amount of time he spends with youth players etc pretty much the reason man united have been the best team in england for 16/17 years.

No denying that he's the best. Winning so many trophies with Manchester United is one thing. I mean, all the money in the world means sweet fuck all if you haven't got someone there to actually MANAGE the team from day to day.

The fact that he did exactly the same sort of thing at Aberdeen with virtually no money speaks volumes about the man's undeniable talent

Well there's a surprise. ::)

To be fair, I would have it down as a straight dogfight between the two of them.

Aye, shocker that, gives it to his club manager, over the guy who didn't want to play him during his brief spell with Scotland. Wanker.

What sets Fergie apart from Paisley is not only the fact that he's done it at different clubs, but also in radically different footballing eras. The world of football back in the 80s was a far cry from the way it is today. Fergie has shown that he's capable of doing it with small unfashionable clubs on a budget, but also that he's capable of doing it in the multi-million pound, primadonna, player-power era.

What sets Paisley apart is the European Cup haul, but winning that was arguably far easier back then than it is to win the Champions League today.

Reckon Fergie will keep going until he's won another CL and either equalled or surpassed Liverpool's league champioship haul (two more to go to better it, I think). His trophy haul, adaptability and longevity will then make him unquestionably the UK's greatest ever manager.

Just curious and pardon my ignorance, but who is a better manager full stop? How Anyone can claim that Paisley was a better manager is a bit of a mystery. Fergie has done MUCH more than him.

Good find Manc, not seen that one before either.  The whole thing was very scripted and was never filmed in 1980, I would suspect 85.  Interesting that there was not really much mention of trophies, I couldn't help but laugh when Strachan started talking about the european cup, what a difference not even 10 years made.
