rocket_scientist
Cos we couldn't get the fucking ball for a start! Yeah, we were always going to get found out that night, although who could have legislated for Clangers reactions for all three of the first goals being crap. Edinburghdon
We didnt earn 4th place - the teams above us gave it on a plate to us! The league doesnt lie, we were the 4th best team over the course of the season and unless im mistaken our form for the last 1/4 of the season was one of the best in the league. Agreed. So where did this following comment come from? And where are we today? Still the third team in Scotland. 3rd? It should be our minimum ambition, but we're not the third team in the country, either in achievements or attendances, or whichever way we look at it. We have slumped far below the standard where we could even expect, with the right ambition and organisation, to be the 3rd force. This year we were an unconvincing 4th. You're spot on about the crowds, but we've never had big crowds for some reason. However, two of the four teams with bigger crowds than us, finished below us in the league. And, who's achieved more than us?
LondonScottish
Fantastic result - probably the best in the clubs recent history, because we showed fight and took the game to them and didnt sit back and wait for a pasting. why was the same approach not take in the away leg! In every game???
brownie
Cant remember much conga lines round stadiums in calderwoods career - You remember the conga lines, I remember conceding 7 goals against Scottish opposition. Im reading this thread and thinking whether it is Donstalk or KKK Chat ? Same people spouting the the same stuff they spouted over there. Andrew
As if 4th place, two cup semis, and the last 32 of the UEFA cup is some sort of achievement. It isn't. How is reaching the last 32 of the UEFA cup not an achievement? "Only won 1 game in 8", we were playing quality opposition and drawing against Dnipro away is a great result, the same team that beat Hibs 5-1 a couple of years ago. Beating Copenhagen 4-0, again the same team that beat Man Utd at home and Celtic away last season. It might not be that big of a deal for people who saw Aberdeen in the 80s winning the league and the ECWC but for people who weren't lucky enough to see Aberdeen then this is the only sort of European run I have seen, apart from losing to Bohemians. glasgow sheep
I was thinking something similar. Endless merry-go-round. Aye We have had this discussion most days, every week, since August 4th 2007 (and in fact for a lot of the preceding 3 seasons too). So can we have a wee break until we lose to Dundee and Peterhead in preseason before zipping of to Holland for a few beers with Scott Calderwood Ok
jmo
What does JMG actually stand for?
rednek
Ive just realised how negative some of you are on here. Its been one of our most successful seasons for years and some of you still arent happy. Getting further in europe than anyone thought( and being one of 3 scottish teams in europe after xmas in a long time- an achievement on its own) took something away from our league form and position. In my opinion we would have got third and a final if we werent in uefa cup. The history books will read- Season 2007/8 Aberdeen SPL 4th, 2 semi finals and last 32 of uefa cup. Successful. The 80's are gone and not coming back. Would some you like to go back to the dark times of relegation playoffs, bottom 6 finishes? We also have a couple of youngsters coming through. Start of a youth system maybe? If JC goes we'll be on a slippery slope.

rednek
That's where you're wrong. History books will record the results So the history books will just list results and not the final outcome? True it wont record opinions though. In my opinion whoever reads these books wil interpret as a successful season.
