Guest Robo Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 A goalkeeper is not an outfield player. A football team is made up of a goalkeeper and ten outfield players. Them's the facts. So you're saying he's an infield player? Quote
Sweetchuck Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 So you're saying he's an infield player? Am I? If you show me where I've said that, I'll be mightily fucking impressed. Argue until you're blue in the face if you like, but a goalkeeper is not an outfield player. Quote
Sweetchuck Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Would you argue that he doesn't play out on the field? Outfield does not mean "out on the field" and this is true of a number of sports, not just football. Just for quick reference from Wikipedia: The outfield is a sporting term used in cricket and baseball to refer to the area of the field of play further from the batsman or batter than the infield. The term is also used in football (soccer) as an adjective describing any position other than that of goalkeeper. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outfield Quote
Dandy_Don Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Though there are a variety of positions in which the outfield (non-goalkeeper) players are strategically placed by a coach, these positions are not defined or required by the Laws. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer#Players.2C_equipment_and_officials Quote
Sweetchuck Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer#Players.2C_equipment_and_officials Not sure whether you're arguing with me or against me, but what you've posted certainly backs up my argument. Quote
Sweetchuck Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Where did I say it meant out on the field? Argue until you're blue in the face if you like, but a goalkeeper does play out on the field. Of course he plays out on the field. That's totally irrelevant though, because "outfield" does not mean "out on the field" (to use your exact terminology). Thus, you're either arguing a totally irrelevant point, or arguing that "outfield" = "out on the field", neither of which really makes a whole lot of sense. Quote
