BERTRAND Bossu will make his first start for the Dons in tonight’s friendly against Peterhead at Balmoor (7.45pm).

Manager Jimmy Calderwood admitted he will be delighted if the towering 6ft 7in stopper piled the pressure on Jamie Langfield, who will be on the bench, in the battle to be the club’s first choice in the new season.

“The big fella did well when he came on as a substitute against Manchester United last weekend and it would be good if he kept that going,†said Calderwood.

“Jamie is the man in possession of the No.1 spot at the moment, but it will always come down to who is showing the best form when the season gets underway.â€

Darren Mackie and Jamie Smith will also play up front as Calderwood shuffles his pack for their third pre-season match inside six days.

Calderwood said: “We note the times each player is on the pitch very carefully to make sure they all get their fair share of playing time.

“But it’s also important to field as strong as side as possible because we still want to win every match.

“Peterhead will make it tough because they have a good young manager in Neale Cooper and several ex-Aberdeen players.

“I’m confident it will be an entertaining 90 minutes.â€

Zander Diamond suffered a knock in training so won’t be risked at Peterhead.

New signing Charlie Mulgrew is due to train with the Dons for the first time on Sunday. He will make his debut in Monday’s friendly with Brechin City at Glebe Park.

Fuck me and I thought Tuesday was pretty dire. That is a disgraceful score but when I was woken up from my snooze to be told the score by phone call I was far from surprised. The defensive line up as jute says is the worst ever to play for Aberdeen and hearing about Bossu Hen Broon confirms some more fears.

But dont worry its only pre-season, what do you expect? These games all about getting players' fitness levels up and experimenting with players and formations.  We did OK in the circumstances but we should make more of how they're doing come the last game of the Holland tour when they're fit and sharp. And who says you dont get exciting games pre-season  ::)

Just saw the score on livescore.com and thought oh it must have been the reserve or youth team we put out. Just about shit my pants when I logged into afc site and saw the team.

I know it's a friendly and all, but even this shower of shite surely doesn't lose 4-0 to Peterhead? It's going to be a long season. There I was, dreaming of challenging for Europe, and now I'm dreaming of fighting to stay in the SPL. Each and every one of the players involved tonight should be placed on the transfer list. Not good enough. :(

Peterhead 4 Aberdeen 0

An astonishing performance saw the Blue Toon run out 4-0 winners over Aberdeen at Balmoor tonight. There were four different scorers as Craig Gunn, Martin Bavidge, Bobby Mann and Konrad Kozminski all found the net.

Missing the injured Callum Macdonald and Davie Ross, Peterhead handed debuts to new loan signings Daniel Moore and Gunn, while Paul Jarvie and Martin Skinner made their first home appearances.

The Dons were without Zander Diamond, and named an experimental back four, with Stuart Duff and Ricky Foster filling the full-back slots and Lee Mair partnering Andy Considine in the middle. Skipper

As early as the first minute, Gunn was involved as he slipped in strike partner Bavidge, the wily hitman forcing the Dons' giant French keeper Bertrand Bossu into an acrobatic save.

And the Blue Toon maintained their early pressure, forcing a series of corners against their SPL opposition, with Bossu displaying a keenness for racing off his line.

Stuart Duff, playing at right back for the visitors, had to receive treatment before Jimmy Calderwood's side had their first opportunity, a Maguire strike from just inside the area.

However, Peterhead were rewarded for their promising start on the quarter-hour when ex-Don McVitie fired a stunning long ball over the top for Gunn, who escaped the attentions of Mair before firing a low 18-yard strike under the body of Bossu. Not a bad start!

Gunn's pace was causing the Dons problems, and just a few minutes later, his ball in from the right was hacked away from Bavidge, who would otherwise have been left with a simple finish.

The Dons reacted, with Darren Mackie finding space on the left but seeing his cross blocked by the imposing Mann. Peterhead struggled to clear their lines from the resultant corner, the ball breaking to Jeffrey De Visscher, but he shot over the bar.

Mackie should have done better when released through the middle, but was crowded out forcing him to slip in Maguire, who shot high and wide of the target.

And Peterhead punished that lax finishing when Graeme Sharp drove down the left wing, going past Duff as if he wasn't there before squaring for Bavidge to side-foot the second on the half-hour.

Mackie was the man getting in the best positions for the Dons, but when he was presented with a one-on-one with Paul Jarvie, his tame effort was saved by the feet of the goalkeeper.

And the same confrontation thirty seconds before the interval led to Mackie slipping the ball under the keeper, however Jarvie got enough on it to slow the ball down, and was able to calmly pick himself before picking up the ball a couple of yards short of the line.

The Toon brought on Michal Kula for the second 45 minutes, and there was an appearance for former Toon loan star Stuart Smith, who replaced Duff for the Dons. Lee Miller and Derek Young also came on, replacing Maguire and Jamie Smith.

The Dons came more into but produced little in front of goal, until the 75th minute when Kula came charging out of his area to clear a long ball with a diving header. He didn't quite make the right connection though, but when the ball came back into the area, Mackie's attempt at a bicycle kick went in completely the wrong direction.

Five minutes later, came the best goal of the evening. Sub Kozminski was brought down 30 yards out. As was so often the case last season, it was Mann who stepped up to the mark, and he thundered a howitzer of a strike into the top left corner of the net, a strike that perhaps trumped any of last season's efforts.

But it wasn't finished yet, and in the final minute, Kozminski raced onto a long ball before coolly slotting the ball low into the corner of the net to cap an amazing evening at Balmoor.
