Using bloo's analogy, I'm assuming that Man Utd was the preverbial marathon. I wouldn't expect us to win that with no preparation. But sticking with yer analogy, surely Peterhead should be classed as a one-lap jog around the park. We clearly failed to do that! 4-0?? That's a shocking result for any SPL club, nevermind one that's gunning for a top-four position this term.

Confidence.  As alluded to by Kowalski further up.  Pre-season really starts here.  Starting off with tough games Man Utd, Dundee wasn't a particularly good idea.  Early games should be solely about building up fitness and confidence.  Cliche of the day #1: You don't begin your training for a marathon by running a marathon.

You serious?

Yes, we wouldn't ordinarily play a full-time team in our second pre-season game.  Calderwood said this himself - the original plan was for AFC to go and play some bounce games in Ireland.

Against teams including Leeds, who are probably a better side than Dundee!!

We won something?

Suddenly 1 goal in four games is 6 goals in five games? That sounds a lot better on paper I must say, We're gonna win the league and all that mad celebrations and predictions people make based on pre-season nothing games.
