Scottish Premiership - St Mirren v Aberdeen

Jamie Smith at left-back!

Recommended Posts

Here's the quote:

Several Dons players were left battered and bruised after the clash with Vitesse.

That means the Reds will field a skeleton side in tonight’s friendly against amateur side Rietvogels.

Aberdeen had hoped to include a mystery Belgian central defender in their line-up, but he failed to appear this morning.

Nicholl said: “We are trying to contact the player’s agent to find out what has happened.

“Tonight’s game would have been ideal, particularly when we are so stretched for defenders.

“We are having to ask Scott Severin to play at centre-back for the second time in two days, when he could do with a rest.

“Jamie Smith has also agreed to give it a go as a makeshift left-back.â€

Suggests it's nae a misquote. :o

surely if there was any sanity in the club it would be a case of

Dear dutch amateur team. We have unfortunately suffered a large amount of injuries and as such cannot field a team for tonights friendly. We apologise for your inconvienience etc etc

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

we have to try and get the rest of the first team squad on the treatment table

What possible sanctions could we be slapped with if we didnt bother turning up?

Seriously, Aberdeen can do no right in the eyes of some fans.  If they HAD called the game off, you would've been straight on moaning about "all the fans that have paid good money and travelled over to see them play, yet they call off the game without a thought for them."

Absolutely stupid both tactically and for the good of the player and team in general.

Also asking Seve to fill in when they say he clearly needs a rest is ridiculous, anyone could fill in. :hammer:

fuck those who decided to have a jolly to holland.

The fans invest a great deal of money in the club to produce results on the pitch WHEN IT MATTERS ie league, cup, europe etc. Playing the dutch equivalent of 'banks of dee' with players who are borderline injured is asking for trouble.

I seriously doubt that there are any fans who having missed out the zwolle and arnhem games  decided to jump on easy jet yesterday of this morning so they could watch us play a dutch amateur side.

Play your devils advocat game somewhere else

I thought I'd seen every one of Tango's tactical permutations, but this one beats the lot.  :o

Well, It's (hopefully) safe to assume that this is due to a limited squad, rather than some long term strategic monkeying.

Mulgrew is our left back. That's why we bought him.

Though we did play Mulgrew, the natural left back, in a centre back position.

I suppose playing our only left back out of position would free up the left back position for someone who can't play left back.

Like, for example, right sided midfielder Jamie Smith.

So that all seems in order.

Play your creative right-side midfielder at left back, this allows you to move your left back into the centre of defence.  Take your other central midfielder, Severin, and play HIM at centre back, meaning you can take your forward, Maguire, and play him in midfield. This means that the Boss' most favouritest player, Mackie, can continue to play a role as a starting forward... despite not being a forward, midfielder or defender.

Oh, it all makes sense now.
