mizer Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/817574 Dons keeper Langfield in Scots squad By Sean Wallace Published: 02/09/2008 CALLED UP: Jamie Langfield is third choice behind Craig Gordon and Allan McGregor. More Pictures ABERDEEN keeper Jamie Langfield has been called into the Scotland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia and Iceland. Langfield has been drafted in by George Burley as replacement for Norwich City’s David Marshall who has had to withdraw due to an injury to a knee. The 28-year-old received the call from Burley late last night and rushed to join the squad at their base at Cameron House Hotel, Loch Lomond. Langfield was previously selected as a squad member by former gaffer Alex McLeish during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. But Burley confirmed there is no way Langfield will see competitive action in the two away qualifiers. Burley said: “Craig Gordon and Allan McGregor are obviously the keepers battling for the No.1 position which is fantastic for us. “If we had that level of competition in every position in the squad Scotland would win the World Cup. “McGregor greatly impressed during the 45 minutes he played against Northern Ireland where he really commanded the position. “It is fantastic to know that if one of them becomes injured I have another top class keeper to call on. “At the moment Craig Gordon is in command of that position because he has been terrific for Scotland over the last few years.†Rangers right-back Kirk Broadfoot has also been called up as Burley prepares for his first competitive game as national boss. bilbobaggins Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Good for jamie. Burley should be loched up for picking broadfoot. If I had a pond for every aberdeen player chosen I would have 1 pond. I guess we will sea what happens. (mizer had written aquad instead of squad) Ness? Quote
Guest swaddon Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I never realised Langfield signed for Rangers last night. With no goalkeeper, we're sure to struggle this season. (That is what happened, right? Burley doesn't pick Aberdeen players). Quote

BrownyBrown Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 Saying that, being 3rd choice keeper with Scotland is a bit like being 3rd choice kitman... Should be good for his confidence though, another string to add to his bow and all that. Good luck Jamie. Quote

PittodrieGoesBerserk Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 I never realised Langfield signed for Rangers last night. With no goalkeeper, we're sure to struggle this season. It'll probably be an improvement. Quote
