mizer Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Dons ace Smith set to return at Falkirk Published: 30/09/2008 DONS midfielder Jamie Smith was expected to get the all clear from medics today, writes Sean Wallace. The former ADO Den Haag star has been sidelined with a thigh strain for four weeks. Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood expects the play-maker to be given the green light and he could return to action in next weekend’s trip to Falkirk. Calderwood said: “Jamie will see a doctor today and we fully expect him to get the all-clear. “It will be a little too soon for him to be back for Saturday’s game against Hibs, but he should hopefully return the following week.†Quote

Reekie_Red Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 I give him 14 minutes before Jackie "Superstar" McNamara sneezes in Smith's general direction, causing him to pull his groin/thigh/calf/cock and be out until Christmas. Quote
KGB Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 Jackie sneezing will probably also see him out until around about the same period. Quote

mizer Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/935838 GOOD NEWS Smith has recovered from a calf muscle problem that sidelined him last month. BAD NEWS But he is still struggling to shake off the effects of the stomach bug --------------------- Full article: DONS winger Jamie Smith looks set to miss Saturday’s trip to Hibs as his injury jinx continues. Smith has recovered from a calf muscle problem that sidelined him last month. But he is still struggling to shake off the effects of the stomach bug that forced him to miss Tuesday’s 2-0 win over St Mirren. Manager Jimmy Calderwood said: “Jamie has been badly affected by the stomach bug. “He might make the bench, but even that is a major doubt. “It is so disappointing for Jamie, he is always desperate to play on a Saturday, and he is the type of player who can turn a game.†Smith has played only 465 minutes out of a possible 1,350 for Aberdeen this season. His time at Pittodrie has been dogged by injury since signing from Dutch side Den Haag. He has started just 87 out of a possible 155 games during his time at Pittodrie. But Calderwood has indicated Smith’s injury woe will not hinder his chances of earning a new deal. “Jamie really looks after himself and trains very hard so it is strange why he gets so many injuries,†said Calderwood. Meanwhile, Aberdeen received a major boost with the news striker Tommy Wright will not need an operation on an Achilles tendon injury. A £75,000 capture from Darlington in the summer, Wright has made just one start for the Dons. And there were fears he could be a long-term injury worry. But Calderwood confirmed Wright will be back in training by the end of the month. “Thankfully the news about Tommy Wright now looks a lot better,†said Calderwood. “Tommy won’t need an operation and will be working hard with our physios to sort the problem out. “It’s looking as if he could be back in training within a couple of weeks. “When he returns he then faces a hard shift to get his fitness back up. “Unfortunately he had already missed our tough pre-season programme so that was an early set-back for him. “He will now need to take a big hit to get to the same fitness levels as the rest of the lads.†But midfielder Stuart Duff will have surgery on his knee injury this weekend. Duff had offered to take pain killers and delay corrective surgery on his knee until after the summer. It is expected and will be sidelined fior two months. Calderwood said: “Stuart was in absolute agony after games so he has to have the operation. “If things go well he should be back in training by the turn of the year.†Aberdeen were pushed off fourth spot in the SPL last night by Hearts who overcame Hamilton 1-0. But Calderwood is just relieved to out of the bottom half of the table. “We are up there in the top six, and now we must get a result against Hibs on Saturday,†he said. Dons reserve keeper Bertrand Bossu is still sidelined through injury. Quote

mizer Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 CALDERWOOD PREDICTION AS INJURY-PLAGUED PLAYER RETURNS TO TRAINING By Michael Gannon Published: 13/12/2008 REASON TO BE CHEERFUL: Dons manager Jimmy Calderwood predicts a bright future for Jamie Smith More Pictures Aberdeen attacker Jamie Smith’s best years are still in front on him. That is the bold prediction from Dons manager Jimmy Calderwood as the talismanic forward prepares to make his latest comeback from injury. Smith has been stricken in the past two seasons, making just 12 starts in 2008, but he will return to full training on Monday and could be involved in the Dons trip to Inverness next Saturday. Falkirk’s visit to Pittodrie today will arrive too soon but Calderwood believes the 28-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has the ability to continue at the top level for years to come. Calderwood is confident Smith’s injury problems are now behind him and he tipped the former Celtic player to add to his two Scotland caps. He said: “I know how low Jamie must have felt during his time out, I have been there myself. “You have days when you are up and you think you are on the way back. Then you get a hammer blow of another setback. “It takes a special character to get through it and he has the desire to get back. The hardest thing was getting to the bottom of the problem but hopefully we have done that now. “He still has his whole career in front of him. “If he can steer clear of any injuries he can still go on for another eight or nine years. It is entirely up to him. “Jamie knows what I think of him and how the supporters view him. “With the quality he has got he not have to worry about his future. “He will never be short of offers. “The chance to play for Scotland is still there for Jamie. “He can play wide on the left or right or up front. “James Morrison has come in and did well but in my opinion he is not any better than Jamie, but it is up to George Burley.†Calderwood insists his side is finally on the right track after a sluggish start to the season and he is targeting three points against Falkirk this afternoon. He said: “Falkirk have been a bit like ourselves, the inconsistency has killed us so far but hopefully we are sorting it out. “We have had three home wins in a row with three clean sheets so we are finally getting into good habits. “We want the three points before we travel to Inverness next week.†Quote
Snapper Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 A player who's played 12 games the whole year returns to training on a Monday and is in contention for the Saturday?? I wonder if any of the bookies will take bets on him getting injured at Inverness. Bloody hell Jimmy, let him get back in shape first before rushing him back. Haven't you learned yet? Quote
