McDONALD AND REDS ALARM BELLS RINGING AFTER ACCIES NOTCH FIRST WIN IN GRANITE CITY FOR 78 YEARS

Midfielder Gary McDonald knows Aberdeen’s home form is giving cause for concern after defeat by Hamilton Accies at the weekend leaves the Dons still searching for their first victory at Pittodrie this season.

 

McDonald scored his first competitive goal for Aberdeen to give the home side an early lead against promoted Accies, but goals from David Graham and James McCarthy earned the visitors three important points.

 

The Dons have picked up just one point out of nine at home – against Rangers – and have suffered home defeats by Caley Thistle and now the Lanarkshire outfit.

 

Aberdeen have earned victories at St Mirren and Motherwell, but their good work on the road has been undermined by woeful displays in the Granite City.

 

Jimmy Calderwood’s men are at home again this Saturday when they play host to Dundee United and McDonald knows only a win will suffice.

 

He said: “It was like the Inverness game all over again and we have to pick ourselves up like we did after that one.

 

“We need to beat Dundee United. We have been letting ourselves down here. We are picking up points on the road but it is not happening for us at Pittodrie. We spoke about it and it is something we are going to have to address.

 

“It is another home defeat, which was the last thing we wanted after picking up away victories.

 

“It was a chance for us to kick on in the league and it is really disappointing we did not managed to. We made a great start and up until they scored we looked bright. We were creating chances and Sone Aluko was exciting the supporters. When they scored it was a blow and then we conceded another sloppy goal.â€

 

McDonald reckons his goal, and man-of-the-match award, are scant consolation following Hamilton’s first win in Aberdeen since 1930.

He feels the Dons can have no complaints about the boos from some supporters at the final whistle.

 

He said: “I managed to get a goal and was named man of the match but it counts for nothing because of the result. It was a great chance for us to climb the table and we did not take it. We need to pick it up. We have Dundee United at Pittodrie next week and we need to start winning our home games. The fans pay their money and are more than entitled to have their say and boo if they want.

 

“They were great early on and really got behind us when we went ahead. We have to hold our hands up for letting Hamilton back into the game.â€

 

Well Jimmy may not like it, but at least McDonald knows they deserved it. Luckily the most disgruntled had left before full time.

How come they can get really fired up against the big teams and are utter s***e against teams we really should be turning over at Pittodrie?

Less chance of hearing the famous Globe Reds' Boo Boys & Girls or the infamous Gothenburg Reds Sigh ?

Big show of complacency.....not anything to do with pittodrie....just the fact they thought they would walk over hamilton and inverness, really annoying, cos winning our two easiest (on paper) games so far this season, and we would of been laughing going into a tough little spell
