Edinburghdon Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Surely these players cant be part of our "terrible" youth set up? . . . . Quote
??? Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Surely these players cant be part of our "terrible" youth set up? . . . . Notice the lack of posts in this thread. If however, it'd been titled, "Aberdeen Release Youth Player", there'd have been a stampede. Quote

Ajja Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Surely these players cant be part of our "terrible" youth set up? . . . . Looking down that queue, the guy at the front has realised the potential of Brechin City at present. Now I don't want to be the harbinger of doom but I'm also not too impressed by U-19 NI or FI squads. Quote
??? Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 It would also have been very misleading. That wasn't the point. If he had been released, there would've been loads of posts going on about how our youth system is sh*te, etc. Quote
One Bobby Clark Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Are the howls of outrage about the "failure" of our youth system not more from frustration than anything else. It is good to see that our younger guys are being recognised at that level. One hopes that mixing with the "upper echelon" of the country's players can only be good for them and, by association, us (AFC). Quote
K-9 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 We always seem to have players in international squads then they get released later on. In last year i can think of Bagshaw, Kelly, McVitie, Donald, Kiely and Strachan that we have binned. Something wrong somewhere. Quote

Get him punted!! Quote

K-9 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Most/all of these players are now playing in lower leagues (e.g. Peterhead, Montrose). Thats the point. Either not good enough to be picked for International level or AFC not developing them very well. Quote

K-9 Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 or © shouldn't have been brought into the AFC youth setup full stop. Nae sure i understand what you are saying. If deemed good enough to represent their country then must be something there but that something far too often turns out to be nothing and these players disappear. But if "shouldn't have been brought into the AFC youth setup full stop" then huge problem with our scouting (which most seem to acknowledge anyway). Quote

Aye - Suprised any of our youngsters get call ups as most of the younger sides are run by old firm sympathisers who get job due to handful of games for one of gruesome twosome. Quote
??? Posted September 25, 2008 Report Posted September 25, 2008 f*ck sake, this thread has turned into a lot of sh*t. Shock. Just because players get capped at a younger level doesn't mean that they're good enough to make it. Quote
