mizer Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 No, why? Does he think Ford is an arse too? I don't know, but probably. But I do know he likes whipping up hysteria and not really looking at the facts. Looks like me and the boss will be having a meeting with Trumps people in the next few months to see if we can get some work from them. Quote

mizer Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 So a sniff of work and your principles are straight out the window? I'm not opposed to the whole development, just the un-needed bit on the SSSI. That may well be changed still. Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 The council threw out the application correctly as it was breaking the law. Swinney has overruled that and is ignoring the law. Whether you agree with the law or not, its still the law. They threw it out? I thought the vote was decided by Ford's casting vote. Hardly thrown out on the basis you suggest. Quote

glasgow sheep Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Everyone goes on about how great it is to have a world class course in the North East of Scotland. Is Royal Aberdeen not recognised as one of the best courses in Britain? Are we assuming loads of golfers will suddenly arrive in the North East because of the name Trump? Quote
??? Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Are we assuming loads of golfers will suddenly arrive in the North East because of the name Trump? Yes. I think if you look harder he's not just building a course. Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 They still rejected it, even if it was the chairman's vote............ But NOT, as you suggested, because of it's supposed illegality. Quote

Is Royal Aberdeen not recognised as one of the best courses in Britain? Are we assuming loads of golfers will suddenly arrive in the North East because of the name Trump? Because RA doesn't host an Open, many Yanks know nothing about it. Cruden Bay benefited hugely by getting in at #100 in Golf Digest's top 100 courses in the world, likewise Royal Dornoch is on the map becuase eveyone knows Watson goes there every year (or used to), but the Aberdeen area has no such draw. Trump's name will change that. Quote
Slim Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 That and Jack Nicklaus will have a course in Stonehaven, Paul Lawrie will have a course at Blairs and it looks like this new development at Hazlehead will be better than them all. With all these courses available to play on, Aberdeen could very well easily find itself as one of the main golfing resorts in the world, Royal Aberdeen included. Quote

Its all quite exciting, if you're a golfer. Thousands of jobs coming to the area as well. Quote

Golf tourism is worth over 300 Million a year to the Scottish economy. Building a course that can host The Open will be huge for Aberdeen. Quote

Building a course that can host The Open will be huge for Aberdeen. How often does a new course get on the Open circuit? Aberdeen/shire and the North East already have some excellent courses and as I said Royal Aberdeen will host the Walker Cup in 2011, probably as big a competiton as there has ever been in the North East. Interesting to note that the Loch Lomond resort has been having serious financial problems too: http://www.theherald.co.uk/sport/golf/display.var.2465412.0.Loch_Lomond_still_on_course_to_host_the_Scottish_Open.php Quote

Yes, money flooding into the area, jobs being created, some positivity and a hugely developed profile for the area and for the sport of golf. Yes, damn the consequences. Quote

glasgow sheep Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 The bulldozing of planning legislation at the behest of a multimillionaire and the precedent that sets (have money, get your way - see labour, New.) The resultant damage to an area of a rare habitat and an area of significant scientific interest. A large unnecessary housing estate built to fund the resort. Guest fatshaft Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 How often does a new course get on the Open circuit? Building a course that can host the Open, isn;t the same as actually getting to host the Open. Trump has no chance whatsoever in the next 50 years of getting on the rota, but what does that matter, he;s the one who has to build it, and that is his stated motivation. The R&A won't site it anywhere they don;t want to, hopefully it does come here, but if it doesn;t so what, it will mean a little less in Trumps pocket, and a little less tourism, but the whole golfing developemtn in the north-east at the moment will drive golf tourism to an area that is largely excluded at the moment.
