Jute Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 As long as he is replaced by a player of better quality (which lets face it should not be to hard) then I am quite happy for Mackie to be punted as have no fear of Scotlands Michael Owen coming back to haunt us. Quote
tom_widdows Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I'll concede that as well, but not convinced he really did that much else. Weigh that up against his number of one on one misses, free header v Hamilton etc At one stage he was doing Diamonds job and doing it a hell of a lot better Quote
??? Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Put in a great near post cross for Miller on Tuesday when he was playing outwide on the right. Got to be fishing? That was not a great cross, Miller made the most of it... Quote
Friedrichs Moustache Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Is it too much to ask for a pacey striker that hassles defenders but can also finish, dribble and pass a little? Even a tiny amount? Mackie likes to annoy defenders, and chase down lost causes. How often has that won us a match? Mackie's good at what he does, but what he does isn't very important. I'd take a packet of Haribo and the price of his bus fare if it frees up a spot for a decent striker. Quote
boboisared Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Didnt mean to quote you there min, sorry Why with the negativity to your winger, encourage him and you may get the ball you want the next time I'm the winger, and no-one complains about my crossing Quote

Good strikers are few and far between in the SPL and we would have to pay good wages/fee for a striker. Mackie is not a fantastic player but he and Miller seem to be playing well together and I don't think, if we get rid of him, we will be able to get in anyone who is better. Quote
Slim Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Who would we get that is better though? Good strikers are few and far between in the SPL and we would have to pay good wages/fee for a striker. Jimmy Calderwood racks up thousands of miles each week travelling to watch games to identify signign targets. I refuse to believe that he hasn't seen at least a dozen strikers who are better football players than Darren Mackie in the last year or so. Darren Mackie is a dreadful player and if he gets a new contract, it makes a mockery of each and every supporter who hands of his or her hard earned (or not so hard earned) money to watch us play. If we want someone to annoy opposition defenders, give me half of Mackie's wages and I'll go round letting air out of their tyres. Quote
Kowalski Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I refuse to believe that he hasn't seen at least a dozen strikers who are better football players than Darren Mackie in the last year or so. That's without a doubt. But how many has he seen that are better than Mackie, would come to Aberdeen, and are within our budgets. Quote
Friedrichs Moustache Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I'll name you a striker we can afford right now. Chris Porter. Nae exactly pacey, but I'm willing to bet he'd be 10 times more effective than Mackie. Quote
caledonia Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 From the BBC Gossip Column: So, how much will we ask for him? YES YES YES best news for years we need someone else to play alongside miller Mackie is NOT a striker and never will be.. Quote
ntbear Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Jamie Smith will be back playing alongside Miller and then Mackie is surplus...... hmm... Quote

TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 There's some spectacularly daft posts on this thread, really awe inspiring overstatement. "makes a mockery of every dons fan" fear fuck. Quote

WTF the fuck. It wouldn't make a mockery of those who traipsed all the way to Dnipro! Quote
El Padre™ Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 WTF the fuck. It wouldn't make a mockery of those who traipsed all the way to Dnipro! I concur! The two players who get slagged the most (mackie and foster) gave me the best night I've ever had as a supporter. Quote
Kowalski Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Mackie and Foster to blame for the broken hotel room door? Quote
El Padre™ Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 Mackie and Foster to blame for the broken back door? Fixed Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 I did not have sexual relations with that door, in the Hotel Krominsky. Quote
Slim Posted January 16, 2009 Report Posted January 16, 2009 That's without a doubt. But how many has he seen that are better than Mackie, would come to Aberdeen, and are within our budgets. The majority of them I'd imagine, otherwise he's completely wasting his time watching games containing players that are out of our league. Quote
Reekie_Red Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 A proper footballer? Not everyone in the team can be blessed with the skill of a Nicholas or a Hackett Al, Mackie does an excellent job. It takes a wonderful piece of skill to get the ball to go OVER the bar from one yard out. Quote
TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 It takes a wonderful piece of skill to get the ball to go OVER the bar from one yard out. That took some doing, much like the header over the bar against Hamilton! Quote
glasgow sheep Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 This is going to start coming across as if I've got it in for Mackie. I accept he does ok some of the time, but this is part of our problem we are prepared to accept someone like Mackie doing alright some of the time. If we continue to accept mediocrity like this then we're never going to move to the next level. I accept that he is ok for backup, but our playing budget doesn't allow for a massive squad and genuinely think, regardless of his wage, it could potentially be better spent on a.n.other. Anyone planning on going to Mackie's testimonial if he's still here next season In a similar way I don't think Mackie will leave Pittodrie unless he is forced out, and certainly not for a side-ways move to the likes of Blackpool and Coventry. I would imagine we could keep him for relatively little and would certainly be worth keeping as a squad player regardless of his merits as a first team starter or not Quote
Millers Tache Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Having sat in front of Billy Davies in corporate today, mi'd be surprised if he followed up his interest in our Darren. He wasn't especaially impressed with what he saw. Although, i did laugh when he remarked "that Diamond looks like he thinks he's a player. I'd be surprised if he does anything today." He left as Brown was picking the 4th out of the net... Quote
