Kowalski Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 No more Mr Bad Guy says Tommy Wright to be good for Aberdeen FC By Charlie Allan Published: 28/02/2009 ABERDEEN FC hitman Tommy Wright has decided to clean up his act in an effort to become a first-team regular. Wright admits his reputation for being a bit of a hot-head hasn’t helped his bid to make it big in the SPL. Wright picked up four red and 31 yellow cards while playing for Leicester City and Darlington in England. He vowed not to alter his style after completing his £75,000 move to Aberdeen FC in the summer. That led to referees and opponents appearing to pick on Wright during matches. Tommy said: “The coaching staff warned me my style would mean walking a thin line with Scottish referees. It was also noticeable that opposing players were doing all they could to wind me up. “It’s up to me to show I can handle all of that better than I might have done in the past. “I have to if I want to become a regular in the Aberdeen side. “I did a lot of daft things when I first came on the scene but it’s been a real learning curve for me.†Wright hopes to play some part in today’s SPL clash with Kilmarnock at Pittodrie, a match Aberdeen FC must win if they want to stay on the tails of Dundee United and Hearts in the race to finish third. Wright said “We’ve kept saying over the last few weeks that if we could just win we would be up into third or fourth place. “But we keep slipping up and that has to stop because we are slowly running out of games. “We are fortunate the gap between us and Hearts is only four points because playing catch-up at this point of the season is not what we want to be doing. “We will definitely gain ground on at least one of the two above us if we win today, so it’s crucial we make that happen. “I accept I will probably have to be a little bit more patient and act as back-up to the other strikers today. “Lee Miller is banned from the game against Hamilton, in a couple of weeks, so I hope to get a bit more of a chance in that one. “If I do start that game it will be up to me to make the best of the chance and give the manager a bit of a headache for the match after that.†Sone Aluko has recovered from a stomach bug and is expected to start. Jamie Smith also back after five months battling against a series of injuries. Andrew Considine and Gary McDonald are still out with injuries. Quote
Reekie_Red Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Wright has been one of the biggest disappointments this season for me. We tried our friggin best to get him to sign for the Dons. The press are making noises about Smith coming back. And rightfully so! If nothing else, the goals he scored against Copenhagen will live long in many Dons fans' memories. But Wright? The ONLY thing I can ever remember him for is that ludicrous handball incident against the Arabs in September. I think Wright is a player who is going to have to do something pretty spectacular to even appear on the Red Army's radar. With Lee Miller due for a suspension period soon, surely this must be his chance to stake a claim as a decent backup striker to Miller and Mackie. Come on, Wrightey, give us something to cheer about before you become someone to jeer about! Quote
??? Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Wright has been one of the biggest disappointments this season for me. To be fair to the lad, the first few games he played the team were still finding their feet, and then he got injured. How many games have you actually seen him play? We tried our friggin best to get him to sign for the Dons. Tried?!? Quote
glasgowdon Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 He's not had a chance. The first half of the season was his pre-season really. Quote
??? Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 He's not had a chance. The first half of the season was his pre-season really. Basically what I said. +1 Quote
Reekie_Red Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 How many games have you actually seen him play? None. Still doesn't distract away from my original point that, especially with all the hype surrounding his arrival at Pittodrie, he's been one of the most disappointing signings we've made in recent years ... probably only eclipsed by Jackie McManamana (doo-dooooo, dee-doo-doo). Quote
??? Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 None. That removes any point you have made regarding Tommy Wright. Absolutely ridiculous. Quote
??? Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 he's been one of the most disappointing signings we've made in recent years And f*ck, this point is utter nonsense also! Tommy Wright cannot be compared to some of the sh*te we've had to endure over the years until he's had time to prove himself. Quote

Tommy Wright cannot be compared to some of the sh*te we've had to endure over the years until he's had time to prove himself. I've sat up at 4am on Sunday mornings enough times this season, watching shitty streaming videos fae some tim sitting with a webcam facing his screen, or listening to some choppy shittey net-radio broadcast, to kind of get a grasp of the idea that Tommy Wright really hasn't shown us what he's really made of. Unless you're stuck in the dark ages (highly possible if you live in Aberdeenshire or Morayshire) then you'll probably have heard of this thing called "the internet". It is a tool that not only lets you watch as much porn as you want, but it also lets you watch every single television and radio broadcast of the Dons that ever occurs ... all from the comfort of your New Zealand home. I've sat, at 5am in the morning, getting shit-faced on rum, beer, wine, sambuka, whatever I can find, trying my best to listen/watch the Dons matches each weekend. Unless the commentators and cameras are watching a completely different game, don't fuckin tell me my point is invalid "because I wasn't there!". Quote

Did I say anything about you not being there you nugget? [quote author= link=topic=7840.msg122811#msg122811 date=1235826679] How many games have you actually seen him play? None. So what the f*ck you banging on about? Tommy Wright has started 2 games I think, and came on as a sub a little over a handful of times. I don't care what your magical New Zealand internet tells you, you cannot really judge any player in such a short space of time, so to say he's been one of the most disappointing signing in recent years is ludicrous ludacris. Reekie_Red Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 How many games have you actually seen him play? Nugget So starting 2 games since August is acceptable to you? Injuries, loss of form, whatever .... he was signed under an umbrella of hope in the summer, and he so far has failed to live up to that hype. That, in my book, is disappointing. Maybe you're happy with this. Or perhaps you'd just prefer to go on pointing out spelling errors. Quote
??? Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Nugget I'll let you work out the difference in these two questions. When you have, you can go back and look at the one I asked. Here goes 1 - How many games have you actually seen him play? 2 - How many games have you actually seen him play in the flesh? Jesus... Quote
Reekie_Red Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 1 - How many games have you actually seen him play? Twice. He came on in the last minute of the 1-1 draw with the huns at Pittodrie, and then royally fucked up by handling the ball in the area when Aberdeen were outplayed by Sandaza. 2 - How many games have you actually seen him play in the flesh? None. Considering there's over 17,000km between me and Pittodrie, I don't really fancy the trip to see a United league game, to be honest! My whole point is that he has almost been forgotten as an Aberdeen player. When he came on against East Fife, I thought "holy fuck, I forgot he was on our books!". Never anywhere did I imply that it was the quality of his play that made him disappointing ... other than that hand-ball incident Quote

When he came on against East Fife, I thought "holy fuck, I forgot he was on our books!". If you'd been at the game you'd have realised he played from the start, lasted the duration, scored a goal, and actually tried to put himself about in what was only his second or third start for the club. Jesus. Do I need to hit my head against a brick wall any more with conversations with you? You really don't grasp the concept of my argument, do you? My entire argument is he has been a very disappointing signing because we've seen so little of him and we are now entering the 31st competitive match of the season. There's a whole different thread on this forum debating the return for our money we're getting from Jamie Smith. I am very disappointed that we've only seen two starts from Wright when we are now into the business end of the season. What does it matter whether I've seen him play or not? Quote

He has barely got fit after a lengthy absence and was signed as a prospect. Quote

Reekie_Red Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Right, now you're boring me with taking quotes of mine out of context. My point is, Wright has been with us since August. He has scored one goal against East Fife and was single-handedly at fault for our loss to Dundee United. He's been on the treatment table for goodness knows how long. That, in my books, is a disappointing return for our 75k investment. What, in your mind, has Wright done at Aberdeen that removes any disappointment in you toward him? Quote

kelt Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Magic. When we bought him I thought, "Here's a big, thuggish looking loon who doesnae look like he takes shite, and could well whip our team of metrosexuals into some kind of, if not tough bunch of tasty pagga-merchants, then less scared to get their frosted tips messed up. Unfortunately it now looks like it's gone the other way, and our new striker will shortly be wearing his hair in pigtails and worrying about whether his clothes have the right brand name on them. "No more Mr Tough Guy. By the way, do you like my new HIGH HEELED SHOES? I GOT THEM TO GO WITH MA NEW HANDBAG!" I reserve the right never to say any of this to his face. Quote
