WIN OR BUST: Aberdeen FC need to find a killer touch, says Mark Kerr, above right.

ABERDEEN FC’s Mark Kerr today admitted the Dons must find a killer instinct or their season could fall flat.

Aberdeen FC have suffered plenty of frustration in their last four games – all of which finished level.

Draws in the Premier League against St Mirren, Kilmarnock and Dundee United have left Aberdeen FC eight points behind third-placed Hearts.

That winless run continued in the Homecoming Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, when the Dons were held 1-1 by dogged Dunfermline.

But a confident Kerr is sure Aberdeen will soon rediscover their cutting edge.

He said: “We want to be where Hearts are.

“But we are not there because we’ve had three draws out of three league games.

“We need to get back to winning on Saturday against Hamilton and obviously in the replay with Dunfermline, to get to a semi-final.

“The pressure is on to go and win these games.

“If we don’t, then our season could be over and we will not have achieved much.

“But we are still in the cup.

“We have big games coming up at Pittodrie and we think we can win them – so I’m looking forward to that.â€

Midfielder Kerr is disappointed with Aberdeen’s recent run of draws because he believes they have played well enough to be winning matches.

He said: “It seems to be the same old story in the last few games.

“We have been dictating play but not finishing teams off, or getting goals at the right times.

“Against Dunfermline we are disappointed that given the way we played in the second half, we didn’t get an extra goal.

“We didn’t start too well, but then we changed the game and turned it around.â€

Aberdeen have only fired in four goals in their last four games and must now cope without top scorer Lee Miller.

The Scotland squad player has been ruled out for another four weeks because of a hamstring injury.

Miller’s absence would appear to be a bitter blow to a side looking to get back to winning ways.

With 10 goals to his name, Miller is the only Dons player to hit double figures in the scoring charts so far this season.

But Kerr believes the likes of Tommy Wright, Darren Mackie and Chris Maguire can fill the void left by Miller.

He said: “There are plenty of strikers at the club.

“Obviously we will miss big Lee’s presence on the park.

“But there are other boys there who can do it and we all have to chip in.

“For example, Tommy Wright came in to the side and he scored in the draw with St Mirren last week.â€

Given Miller’s extended spell on the sidelines, talismanic frontman Jamie Smith could not have returned to fitness at a better time.

The playmaker has been hampered by a back injury that kept him out of action for five agonising months.

But Smith came through the entire 90 minutes against Dunfermline and encouragingly, was the Dons’ liveliest performer.

Now he is fully fit, Kerr reckons former Celt Smith could provide the inspiration Aberdeen need to turn draws into wins.

“He’s got that little bit of a spark where you can give the ball to him and he creates things,†said Kerr.

“It should be interesting if Jamie keeps fit and does well for us.â€

Fresh off a 5-1 Scottish Cup hammering against Rangers, Hamilton could visit Pittodrie on Saturday with the main aim of producing a robust defensive performance.

Kerr would not be surprised to face a team using those tactics.

He believes Kilmarnock and Dundee United were both in defensive mode in recent trips to Aberdeen – just as other teams have been this season.

He said: “Almost every game at Pittodrie has been like that.

“Kilmarnock came and sat in a little bit, while at times Dundee United weren’t putting any pressure on, so we had to go and make all of the play.

“But we are at Pittodrie, where we have done well – we have not lost any games there this year.â€

Add to that .... we are not there because we lost at home to ICT, Hamilton, Arabs, and Hibs as well as away to (Arabs), Hamilton, Falkirk and (Jambos) prior to the last 3 draws * :hammer:

* Bigot brothers nae included

# Third in SPL, yes. With owner like Mad Vlad, no thanks!

We realistically could have been challenging for second when you count up points lost in games I've mentioned (nae forgetting the 6 points lost in last 3 draws).

Aberdeen have only fired in four goals in their last four games

  Team        P WD L  F  A WD L  F A GD PTS

5 Aberdeen 28 6 4 4 17 13 5 3 6 16 17 3 40

4 goals in 4 games = average 1 goal per game.

33 goals in 28 games = average 1.17 goals per game.

Last 4 games don't seem to have been enormously different from the rest of the season  ???

Not only that, we'd be top if we had won every game!

Deluded.

I think its quite clear we don't have the strength in depth to be able to challenge for 2nd spot. However, we all know, we should have been 3rd by now or there abouts had we not thrown away a number of silly points. I think thats more the point that Kerr and probably A_L is making. Lets just hope they get our season on the tracks again by a win against Hamilton, I don't care what anyone says, our form has been shite (despite not losing many). We need to rectify this problem and start getting 3 points from games! COME ON YOU REDS!!

If we were challenging for 2nd, surely we'd then be challenging for the league title as there's only 3 points difference at the top (I think)?

If UTD and Hearts hadn't dropped silly points against Hamilton, Killie, ICT and Helen then they would be challenging us in our hypothetical challenge for 3rd too. In fact if every team in the league hadn't been a bunch of useless fucktards and dropped idiotic points against each other we would all have won the league by now in one giant share-a-thon of the SPL title.
