glasgow sheep Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Someone seems to ask about this every other day at the moment....maybe we should sticky this: 4th gets you into the 2nd qualifying round, 1st leg 16th July, 2nd leg 23rd July3rd gets you into the 3rd qualifying round, 30th July/6th augustCup Winners gets you into the 4th qualifying round (final round before the groups), 20/27th August NB: Proposed SPL start 8th August (or 15th if Burley gets his way) Qualification Listhttp://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/qual2009.htmlgood table here that gives an idea of which countries' clubs enter whenhttp://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/access2009.html Cup Loser Rule: If the cup winner of a country also qualifies for the Champions League, then the losing team of the cup final is qualified for the UEFA Cup. If both cup finalists qualify for the Champions League, then an additional team based on league position will be qualified. However, the losing cup finalist does not get the UEFA Cup cup-winner spot, but is treated as a league entrant. The 'cup- winner' spot of that country goes to the team with the highest league position. In some countries (England and France) the last league entrant position is given to the League Cup Winner. TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Fuck it, unless we win the cup I won't be seeing Europe, unless we win of course! Quote
glasgowdon Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 So third still leaves us with two qualifying rounds to go? Not sure I fancy spending money to watch us get knocked out by some arse team in Tamalistan. Quote

dave_min Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Fingers crossed for 4th place But i'll settle with 3rd or a cup win Quote
RnP Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Does 3rd place not get straight into the group stages ? On 26th Feb there was something in one of the papers saying "Uefa has confirmed that three Scottish teams will qualify for next season's inaugural Europa League - including either the Scottish Cup winners or runners-up with 3rd place in the SPL going straight into the Group Stages " Quote

The path into the group stages was made easier by Rangers and Aberdeen's performance in the UEFA Cup last season and Ra Shellick in the Champions League in same season. Pretty sure that kicks in for the forthcoming European competitions. Quote
Ajja Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 I thought nobody went directly into the league. C'mon GS, if you are going to provide us with a definitive guide to qualification can you at least make it clear Quote

glasgow sheep Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 Does anyone from any league go directly into the group stages? If you check the links in the original post it doesn't look like it. I know this site isn't an official UEFA site but it is generally recognised as the most accurate site on the go about european competitions. From the second link (http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/access2009.html) it would appear that the holders are the only ones that get straight into the group stage, the other teams coming from the 4th Qualifying Round (37 teams) and from the chumps league qualifying (10 teams) Quote
Kowalski Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 4th gets you into the 2nd qualifying round, 1st leg 16th July, 2nd leg 23rd July I'll keep the dates free! Quote
Andrew Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 4th gets you into the 2nd qualifying round, 1st leg 16th July, 2nd leg 23rd July Brilliant. Got an interview on the 15th July and the 22nd July. What are the chances of that. Quote
dave_min Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 Brilliant. Got an interview on the 15th July and the 22nd July. What are the chances of that. About 2 in 365 But you should be ok, 4th place only gets into the second qualifying round if Falkirk win the Scottish Cup Quote
Andrew Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 About 2 in 365 But you should be ok, 4th place only gets into the second qualifying round if Falkirk win the Scottish Cup Oh good. Rangers for the cup. Quote

glasgow sheep Posted May 17, 2009 Author Report Posted May 17, 2009 I'll keep the dates free! Although bare in mind that if the scum beat Falkirk in the cup final (what ever that is) then, if I understand the rules correctly we would go into the 3rd qualifying round instead Quote

It confirms the 4th placed team would go into the 3rd qualifying round, 30th July/6th August. Quote
RnP Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 At least we would start the season with proper competitive matches already played tho which cant be bad Although we could also be out of Europe a la huns before the season starts right enough Quote
tlg1903 Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Oh good. Rangers for the cup. Yeah bad enough having to essentially want them to win the league next weekend Quote
Reekie_Red Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 You don't have to word it that way, tlg1903. You don't have to say you want Rangers to win. You can safely get away with simply saying "I want United to lose" Quote

minijc Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 You get what you deserve, sadly we don't deserve any of the 6 available Europa league spots. Quote
