If both cup finalists qualify for the Champions League, then an additional team based on league position will be qualified. However, the losing cup finalist does not get the UEFA Cup cup-winner spot, but is treated as a league entrant. The 'cup- winner' spot of that country goes to the team with the highest league position. In some countries (England and France) the last league entrant position is given to the League Cup Winner. The path into the group stages was made easier by Rangers and Aberdeen's performance in the UEFA Cup last season and Ra Shellick in the Champions League in same season. If you check the links in the original post it doesn't look like it. I know this site isn't an official UEFA site but it is generally recognised as the most accurate site on the go about european competitions. From the second link (http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/access2009.html) it would appear that the holders are the only ones that get straight into the group stage, the other teams coming from the 4th Qualifying Round (37 teams) and from the chumps league qualifying (10 teams) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
