mizer Posted April 9, 2009 Report Posted April 9, 2009 Calderwood looks to extend loan By Sean Wallace Published: 09/04/2009 RULED OUT: Aberdeen FC's Zander Diamond. More Pictures ABERDEEN FC face a defensive crisis after centre-back Zander Diamond was ruled out of Saturday’s SPL clash with Inverness Caley. Aberdeen FC boss Jimmy Calderwood said: “Zander will definitely miss the Caley game, which is a blow.†Diamond is suffering with an ankle injury sustained in training. Fellow defender Andrew Considine is suspended following a red card in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Motherwell. Calderwood added: “Club physio John Sharp has ruled him unfit for Caley although we do not think it will be a long term injury. “It is too early to say if he will be okay for Celtic at Parkhead next week. “With Andrew Considine out suspended that is obviously not ideal from a defensive point of view. “We know what to expect from Inverness as they will be solid with two banks of four and hit us on the counter-attack. “It is a game where big Zander would be important but it is not to be and we have just got to get on with it.†Meanwhile the Dons hope Manchester City’s plans to go on a summer spending spree will aid their bid to hold on to Javan Vidal. City boss Mark Hughes is planning to move out up to 16 players at the end of the season to make space for a host of new signings. Full-back Vidal who is on loan with the Dons until the end of the season, won’t be one of those. The highly-rated England youth international has already been offered a two-year contract extension by Hughes. But Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood plans to ask Hughes to extend their loan agreement. Calderwood said: “We know there is no chance of Javan being with us on a permanent basis. “City have already offered him a new two year deal and Javan’s ambition is to eventually make it big with them. “But it looks as if City are going to bring in a lot of experienced big names signings in the summer. “We are hoping they will see the benefits from allowing Javan to come back to us next season to gain further playing experience.†“We will certainly be discussing that with Mark Hughes at the end of the campaign. “ Hughes has already been linked with moves for top stars like Thierry Henry, Franck Ribery, Roque Santa Cruz and Joleon Lescott as City’s new owner Sheikh Mansour prepares to give him almost unlimited funds to strengthen his squad. Calderwood accepts that could make Vidal more eager to be involved with the Blues next season. But he is confident he would be able to convince the 19-year-old he would benefit from a extending his spell at Pittodrie. Calderwood said: “Javan is enjoying his spell with us and another year in Scotland would do him the world of good. “Despite his undoubted talent, it’s likely his first team chances would be restricted if a host of big names came in.’’ Striker Darren Mackie has was set to return to training today after three weeks out with a hamstring injury. Mark Kerr is suspended for the Caley clash. Quote

TENEMENTFUNSTER Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 How is describing a less than ideal injury situation as just that "getting excuses in early"? Quote
Guest swaddon Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Or the hot sandwich crisis since the toaster left? Or the managerial crisis since Jimmy Calderwood took over? Quote
Harcus Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 How is describing a less than ideal injury situation as just that "getting excuses in early"? Indeed. Perhaps the media should stop reporting injuries lest the club be accused of making excuses. Quote
