In the last 5 years the old firm have won every domestic trophy apart from one Scottish cup (hearts) and one league cup (hibs). Quote

Why do we hear constantly then that these are the worst Old Firm teams in living memory, and they are both 'there for the taking' every time we play them? Quote

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that the Old Firm are still working on a financial level far beyond what the rest of Scottish football. Yes, they might be poor imitations of the OF sides from the nineties/early 00s, but I reckon Scottish football has decreased in quality exponentially with the OF since those days. Quote

The truth is that most teams are a bit closer to the OF, the general standard continues to drop though. The Huns just won for the first time at Tannadice in 3 years, they haven't beaten us at home for some time too. The OF no longer see an away day at ourselves Tannadice or Tyncastle as a foregone conclusion. Just all 3 of us are shit over a season, losing to Hamilton and Inverness and each other. Quote

You are probably right. The problem with Scottish football is that in order to see any genuine challenge to the dominance of the OF it cannot happen with one team breaking out in a Hearts-style charge for the front. For there to be real open competition you have to ensure that the OF can lose up to 8-10 games a season in the SPL. Last season they each lost 4 while Hearts lost 11 and we lost 13. No team outside the two is likely to go through a season only losing 4-5 games to keep up so we need them to lose more. This outcome relies on a further 5 or 6 defeats in a season and one team cannot deliver that. You are looking at 4 or 5 teams at least who can take a couple of wins off the OF and that is a big ask. It would mean 4 or 5 teams who were playing a consistently good level of football if they were confident of getting close to beating the OF a couple of times a season. As much as I hate to say it, we need UTD, Hearts and Hibs to be stronger along with us if a challenge for the title is to be seen as even remotely possible. Quote

Our/Hearts/United record against the OF is brilliant(ish) it certainly is good enough for us to challenge them, but all 3 of us just don't have the strength or depth to go the whole season. All of us have lost to Hamilton this season? Results like that are what's stopping one of us splitting the OF. Either we need to get a bit of luck, or a bigger squad, but for that we need more money on the other hand, if we manage to hold onto a team for more than 2 seasons while they continue to fall away we might just be in with a chance. Edit: Forgot to mention, the drop in standard in Scottish Football across the board is massive! Canyou really compare Larsson to Scott McDonald? or that Cunt Lafferty to Gazza?? Nah! Coupled together with near non-stop coverage of much better leagues like La Liga and the (shudder) EPL makes our league look even worse Quote
