Not here he wasn't

And somewhat surprisingly hardly an overwhelming favourite over on the the "hat" where he only polled four more votes than Eric Black despite site owners championing him as the returning prodigal son ::)

And for the avoidance of any doubt, I'm with Padre and Jay on this one

ah, but 'here' takes perverse pride in doing the exact opposite of what AFC Chat does. I can understand when it was run by nignog & the bond clowns, but what's the deal with the ongoing grudge against totally new site owners?

The mad site was also in favour of McGhee.

FatShaft there is no ongoing grudge against the Hat.My point was I thought pretty straightforward. Despite LS and BC campaigning for Dingus long before JC got his jotters, when it came to canvassing member's opinions and a democratic vote on Chat, it seems somewhat surprising that the gap was only four votes between first choice and second. Thats all mate

Who has said that he is the messiah? I don't think he is.

2 years actually, but since he's the new messiah he'll do it in less than 6 months.

Whilst I do realise that El Padre has placed his tongue firmly in his cheek with that remark, there's no doubting that he's referring to a large number of fans who've been calling for McGhee to be the Aberdeen manager since ... since probably Christmas (some well before this too!)

Here's a thread as far back as January 2008 referring to McGhee being tipped as the answer to our prayers: http://www.thedandies.co.uk/messageboard/index.php?topic=2040.0

... and another from February 2008: http://www.thedandies.co.uk/messageboard/index.php?topic=2780.0

I agree with FJ.

AFCchat was set up originally as direct competition to DonsTalk by a clutch of users who had become banned from DonsTalk for completely ruining the site with their views, spamming and general childish behaviour that succeeded in many users either leaving DT for other sites (such as Aberdeen Mad) or just giving up on AFC forums altogether.

Now that it is in the hands of new owners, we've got absolutely no problems with AFCchat. I don't know if they have problems with us, cos quite frankly I don't care if they do. But the Red Army has often had complete opposite factions, not just on forums. There are those who will never go into the RDU cos of the idiots there. There are those from the RDU who will never go near the South Stand because of the idiots there too. But there are people who don't really give two hoots and quite often flick between the two stands on opposing seasons because they enjoy the difference in atmosphere between the two.

Same goes for DT and The Hat.

I still read topics afc-related on both afc-chat and the mad site, but choose to post my childish drivel here.  It's natural for users to migrate towards a site with like minded people (that's not to say everyone here has the same viewpoint on every subject) but donstalk has some of the funniest, most intelligent posters around.  There has been good debate about the rights and wrongs of getting rid of JC, and who his successor should have been.

I'm not convinced by McGhee, but I am hoping his appointment will stir the entire afc support to get behind the club this season. Feel-good factor is the key to getting the season off to a flier, who knows what might hapen after that.

Aw thank you  ;D

A win at Tynecastle on the first day of the season will do for starters

Anyway, on topic, MmG doesn't need to win me over. I think that's the definition of support.

Blank canvas, day one, should be a blast.

Think this post sums up this entire thread.

We all want what is best for the club and if that means having a manager that everyone can get behind then THAT is the best thing for the club.

MMG.I.G.  ;)

I'm just going to clarify again, I am in full support of McGhee, I just don't think he's any sort of long term solution for the club which is why I'm not overly excited about his appointment and why I need convinced otherwise.
