Boxing Day - kick-off 3pm

Scottish Premiership - Kilmarnock v Aberdeen

Considine came off for Holm, who looked suspect with balls played over the top.

Sammy Stewart came on then went off again about 5 mins later, presumably an injury. We started 4-4-2 but changed to 4-3-3 I think.

Derek Young was hardly in the game when he came on, Foster was pish as was Duff.

Impressed by Paton.

Never read too much into friendly results ... unless it's an absolute tanking, in which case the friendly is a waste of time.

It would've given McGhee the chance to test out a couple of formations, try out his first-choice team and also a few backup options. Ultimately, he'll have come out of this one knowing who he can rely on and who is shite. So long as we get it alright on the (next Thursday) night, I'll be happy.

Was a decent run-out for the players. Peterhead were 2-0 up after about 15/20 mins, despite Aberdeen having the ball for 99% of that time. Cameron scored a nice free kick for them, and then their finish for the second was decent.

A through ball was played to mackie for the pen - he got sandwiched between two defenders and went down. I was right beside the incident and was never a penalty in a million years - I think both PFC players actually got the ball. Anyway Miller stepped up and placed it calmly to the keeper's left. Miller alos had a nice volley which rattled the crossbar.

In the second half, Considine went off injured after about 30 secs - he went doen with nobody around which was a worry, although he did run off to be substitituded by Holm. Holm was suspect at high balls, and let it bounce over him a couple of times when he should have dealt with it - Bavidge should have nicked a last-gasp equaliser because of this when he was left clean through.

Miller and Mackie were replaced by Paton and McGuire who both looked very hungry. Aluko picked up a loose ball just outside the PFC box, skinned two folk then sent the keeper the wrong way with a cool finish into the bottom corner. McGuire then played in Paton for a lovely low finish, before the roles were reversed to see Mcguire shot saved well by keeper.

Miller, Aluko, paton, McGuire, Mcdonald played very well - the latter ALWAYS wanting the ball. Kerr was ok, I would say that McDonald would be a  much better captain though. Considine went off injured, as did Sammy Stewart five mins after coming on. Foster was involved a lot but his passing was way off - we were reminded of his pace, though, so he would be a real weapon as a winger imo.

All in all was a decent game with some positives. Langfield had nothing to do all night except pick the ball out of the net twice.

From the scotsman

A SECOND-half goal from substitute Michael Paton gave Mark McGhee his first win as Aberdeen manager but left him with plenty to ponder with a Europa League qualifier just one week away.

The opposition for that will be decided tonight when Fram Reykjavik and Sigma Olomouc play the second leg of their tie with the score deadlocked at 1-1 from the first one in the Czech Republic. Craig Robertson will be trusted with the scouting mission on to Iceland as McGhee is heading south in an effort to bolster the backline, a mission that took on more urgency when Andrew Considine limped off with a knee injury early in the second half.

The Aberdeen manager actually delayed his signing trip to Paris by 24 hours but must have been wishing he was anywhere but the Balmoor Stadium in the early exchanges of this match. He is in the French capital today trying to complete the loan signing of Amiens defender Reda Johnson and his anxiety to strengthen that area was explained in the first 15 minutes here.

First Zander Diamond was guilty of a clumsy challenge on Graham Sharp on the edge of the area and Dougie Cameron curled an exquisite left foot free-kick past the defensive wall and goalkeeper Jamie Langfield. That came in 12 minutes and shortly afterwards Stuart Duff's misplaced pass allowed Martin Bavidge to set up David Ross for a stunning spin and shot from 18 yards that flew in to the top corner of the net.

The fact that Peterhead had five former Dons in their starting line-up and McGhee's fellow Gothenburg legend Neale Cooper guiding things from the dugout helped explain the highly charged display.

Not that the SPL side were unimpressive themselves when pushing forward with the pace and movement of Sone Aluko, Darren Mackie and Lee Miller causing problems. Miller hit the bar in 24 minutes but when last season's top scorer claimed the first goal it had an element of fortune about it. Mackie sped between Stuart Smith and Callum McDonald before sprawling to the deck with the referee awarding a soft penalty Miller converted comfortably.

That was reward for Aberdeen's stranglehold on possession which only intensified after the interval when Aluko's fine contribution was rewarded with a well-taken goal from the edge of the box.

Nine minutes later it was the Nigeria international's adroit pass that allowed Paton to angle in the winner from 15 yards.

Peterhead: Jarvie, Donald, Smith, Mann (Bowden 86), MacDonald, McVitie (Davidson 86), Sharp, Strachan (Young 75), Bavidge, Cameron, Ross (Bruce 57). Subs not used: Moir, Duncan.

Aberdeen: Langfield, Duff (Young 46), Diamond, Considine (Holm 49), Mulgrew (Crawford 82), Foster, Kerr, McDonald, Aluko (Stewart 71 (Ross 82)), Mackie (Paton 60), Miller (Maguire 60). Subs not used: Bateman.

Referee: N Watters.
