BobbyBiscuit Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 I've had the misfortune to read on another Dons forum about some things that went on during the game on Thursday night. Along with the not surprising stories of our own fans arguing with each other, there are stories of our fans singing songs about wishing death on Darren Mackie and then someone even throwing a pint at him as he ran down the wing. I am no fan of Darren Mackie - the guy is largely a poor player and people can post up his goals against Dnipro or Celtic all they want, it doesn't change the fact that the guy is simply not a good enough player for our club. However, to wish death on anyone due to their footballing ability is crass to say the least no matter who they play for. To chuck something on the pitch at a footballer you have to be pretty moronic. Both incidents are doubly moronic when it's done to one of your own. I wasn't in the Czech Republic so have no first hand evidence of this, and I'd rather put it down to youths having too much cheap beer in the sun but experience warns me not to presume. As I said, I'm no fan of the guy, but I've seen worse players - far worse! - play for us and he's by no means the worst in the current squad either. And, essentially, it's not his fault he's getting picked and offered contracts every couple of years, is it? Booing our own is bad enough, but comments about death and then basically physical assault...? Who needs enemies when we have "supporters" like that? I would say they are cretins but that's probably a bit kind. Quote
Kowalski Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Absolutely shocking and totally agree with your comments BB. Utter moronic tossers. I'd have had words with them if I'd witnessed any of it. Mackie suffers from one big problem - its not his fault he gets picked for the team. Quote
Superstar Tradesman Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 I can confirm both these things happened. I was also sickened to see an element of our support ganging up against one or two of their fellow reds. They really should have grown out of that by now, especially considering half of them were struggling to fit into their designer labels due to middleage spread. Saw a few of them over the course of the evening strutting around town like they were carrying invisible tvs under each arm. Late 30s and carrying on like that? Sad as fuck. Quote
manc_don Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Totally agree with your sentiments BB. Whilst Mackie is far from my favourite player, no-one deserves to have death threats sung at them, and least of all a pint chucked over them. Truly embarrassing for us as fans/the club and a disgrace. Quote
BrownyBrown Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 I've witnessed this sort of shite following Aberdeen FC before. Each time I'm utterly astounded by the absolute pondlife that follows our club into Europe. They are no Aberdeen fans at all if thats they way they carry on. It's pathetic. Quote

Why the fuck do people give these pathetic stories airtime? Quote

caledonia Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 wishing death on anyone except maggie thatcher is out of order. Unless they are on your Celeb Deaths 2009 list Quote
caledonia Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 As I said, I'm no fan of the guy, but I've seen worse players - far worse! Source but agree its over the top Quote

Why the fuck do people give these pathetic stories airtime? So its typical Hat chat? Shouldn't expect anything less, but I wouldn't put it past them. I'd hope it isn't true, but ST just said it was? Sounds like you guys had a good time that aside anyway! Quote
El Padre™ Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 I deeply apologise, even though someone who was at the game has already confirmed both happened. They're talking shite, pure and simple. Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted August 9, 2009 Author Report Posted August 9, 2009 They're talking shite, pure and simple. Well thank fuck the all seeing eye was present. Quote
Superstar Tradesman Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Obviously missed it Padre but it happened and more than once. The beer certainly made it onto the pitch even if the plastic cup stopped short against the netting. Funny thing was I was wondering before kick-off to whom the netting was going to benefit. Was it to protect the away fans from the home support or visa versa. Little did I imagine it was to stop folk abusing their own players. Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted August 9, 2009 Author Report Posted August 9, 2009 Bobby, there was a NET over the stand, completely covering us from all angles, you couldn't throw anything onto the pitch. Whoever told you otherwise obviously just likes the sound of their own voice. So how couldn't he have got a pint chucked over him then? Quote

Andrew Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 For me it's not wishing it is just not getting maudlin about death. Of course it is a bonus if you can get some points on the table. Unless the organiser fucks it up and you get nothing. Quote
El Padre™ Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 So how couldn't he have got a pint chucked over him then? Because he was never close enough for it to happen. Quote
Ajja Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 On the footage of the remember seeing a bit of disruption in the Dons crowd near the pitch, there were a good few fans shouting at each other and pulling each other about. If nets can stop liquids then no wonder our fishermen are having a shit time. Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted August 9, 2009 Author Report Posted August 9, 2009 Because he was never close enough for it to happen. Not according to several people. Even if it was the case he didn't get any liquid on him, it's hardly the point, is it? The fact is, some cunt wanted to hit him with his pint. Surely you can see that's what this is about. Quote
CtS Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Absolutely disgraceful. Wasting a good pint like that. Quote

The fact is, some cunt wanted to hit him with his pint. Surely you can see that's what this is about. People were throwing plastic cups at a bit of netting, they werent throwing them at the players, and had the netting not been there no-one would have done it. Not a single drop of beer even got past the touchline for fuck sake. By the time these stories reached the main square in Olomouc they were blown out of proportion. When they're in the hands of people who weren't even there they just completely transform into utter bullshit. Quote
mizer Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 Mackie was thirsty from running so much in the heat I thought I should refresh him with some nice alcohol free beer. Unfortunately in my drunken stupor I never noticed the net and it the pint bounced and the result was Mackie getting a golden shower. Im sorry. TBH anyone throwing away their pint was asking for dehydration and an idiot. Quote
