Kowalski Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Being boss of Aberdeen FC is toughest job I’ve had McGhee reflects on his opening 10 games By Ross McTavish Published: 14/10/2009 MARK McGhee admits he has never had it harder when taking charge of a new club than at Aberdeen FC. McGhee’s opening 10 games kicked-off with a slaughter by Sigma and ended with a drab draw at Kilmarnock. Statistically, the former Wolves and Leicester boss has made the seventh best start of the past 10 Aberdeen FC managers. Mark is in no doubt as to why his reign began so disastrously, with an 8-1 aggregate defeat to Czech side Sigma Olomouc in the Europa League qualifiers. Stability was key when Calderwood came to Aberdeen FC Jimmy built from the back Published: 14/10/2009 DAVID Preece believes the foundations for Jimmy Calderwood’s reign as Aberdeen FC boss were built at the back. In five years at Pittodrie, Mark McGhee’s predecessor secured three fourth-place SPL finishes, turning around a club that had struggled under the charge of Ebbe Skovdahl and Steve Paterson. Aberdeen FC conceded 63 league goals the season before Calderwood’s arrival, but under the former Birmingham player, that tally was cut to just 39. manc_don Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Certainly seems like it! But its the EE so generally a crock of shit anyway McGhee is taking us in a different direction to Calderwood, hopefully its the right one and we'll have a successful season. Quote
dave_min Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Certainly seems like it! But its the EE so generally a crock of shit anyway Exactly! Can't wait for Monday's "McGhee is better than Sir Alex" article Quote
mizer Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Why the fuck are they interviewing Preece on Calderwoods tenure at this point? Quote
Reekie_Red Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I take it the club said: "sorry Charlie. Yer nae getting in today. We cannae be arsed with yer shite. And you keep leaving pie crumbs all over the place". So Fat Ex-Postie has gone back to the office in a grump and said: "What am I gonna do for today's pay? Ross! Bring me your best fabricated load of shite you can think of ... nah that's shite, you can hae that one. Ah, David Preece you say? When's this one from? 2005? Ah fuckit, it'll do for my piece!" Absolutely nowhere in the whole article does McGhee state that being the Aberdeen manager is the toughest job he's ever had. EE in Daily Record-style non-shocker! Quote
paulinho Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 @Reekie_Red - I have the paper in front of me and McGhee is quoted as saying "Going into the European games a couple of weeks into the job was a big ask. It was the hardest task I've had coming into a club." Maybe you should read the article? Quote
