Kowalski Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Restaurant planned for Aberdeen’s Amadeus Former nightclub set for makeover By Alison Rennie and Sally Hind Published: 13/10/2009 A FORMER Aberdeen nightspot today looked set to be transformed into one of the biggest restaurants in the region. The £7 million Amadeus nightclub, at Aberdeen’s Queens Links beach leisure complex, has lain empty for more than six years. But the vast 25,000sq ft former Amadeus building could now become a huge Chinese buffet restaurant. Amadeus closed its doors in Aberdeen in 2003 and has been branded an eyesore. Over the years Amadeus has been pinpointed as a potential spot for various business ventures in Aberdeen including a casino. X Leisure bought the entire Aberdeen Queens Links site in 2005 and announced plans to turn it into a new gambling haven. But chief executive of X Leisure, Frenchman PY Gerbeau, the man who transformed the fortunes of Disneyland Paris, said there had not been enough interest in the Aberdeen site from companies. Today an X Leisure spokeswoman said the new business plan could be finalised within months. She said: “We have leased out the Amadeus building to a company called Balman TT Ltd, which is based in Aberdeen. “The company is to open a Chinese buffet restaurant. “The plans will hopefully be finalised by the end of the year and I think the company ought to be on site by February.†Aberdeen’s beach site already includes several popular restaurant chains, such as Pizza Hut, TGI Friday’s and Frankie And Benny’s. Another Chinese buffet chain, Jimmy Chung’s, also has a restaurant at Aberdeen beach. And Dons director Willie Miller recently opened new fish restaurant Skippers on the Queens Links site. But will they do good chips? Quote
baggy89 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I got invited to one of these in Gloucester last year, place used to be a bowling alley. Can see why it is successful you could barely move between the tables and, kowalski, they seemed to do more chips than anything else. Not sure if you could call them good though! Not somewhere I'd choose to go and I don't think I could be described as fussy. Quote
minijc Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I want to buy that place, need to find 10million first. Quote
dave_min Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I want to buy that place, need to find 10million first. Just ask Willie Miller for a weeks wages then Quote
Kowalski Posted October 14, 2009 Author Report Posted October 14, 2009 I want to buy that place, need to find 10million first. Is this for your new Aberdeen music venue, or for your Dragons Den project? Quote
BrownyBrown Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Great, just what Aberdeen needs: another fast food chain restaurant to feed the masses. Quote
minijc Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Is this for your new Aberdeen music venue, or for your Dragons Den project? Nope, neither. Quote
BobbyBiscuit Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Great, just what Aberdeen needs: another fast food chain restaurant to feed the masses. Chinese buffet restaurants should be outlawed. Quote
mizer Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Chinese buffet restaurants should be outlawed. You got to love the high quality of the food....... Quote
tom_widdows Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I recall slagging amadeus back in the day but in hindsight i actually enjoyed the place. One of the few places that was busy but never felt claustraphobicly full I went away for a year and came back to find both it and the mudd club had shut. The dawn of the shite 'hiphop' club had begun in Aberdeen and my days of 'clubbing' came to a sharp end. Small wanky places that are so packed you can barely get past the doorman let alone reach the bar. Seem to recall at least one of these places had 'a list' last time I was there. Quote
Tyrant Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 And Dons director Willie Miller recently opened new fish restaurant Skippers on the Queens Links site. What did that last? a few months? Nice work, Willie. Quote
Stewart Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 What did that last? a few months? Nice work, Willie. Is this you testing the search function? Quote
BigAl Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 What did that last? a few months? Nice work, Willie. Trawling the depths there Tyrant Almost three years out of date But guess Stewart's initial response shows you caught a tiddler ! Quote
Kowalski Posted August 6, 2012 Author Report Posted August 6, 2012 Having a go at Miller's failed fish restaurant? Sounds like somebody's got a chip on their shoulder. Quote
Tyrant Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 Is this you testing the search function? Nope. Just bored as fuck at the time and looked at the very last page. Look out for more thread revivals coming soon. Possibly about fat folk moaning. But also thought about how this thread is almost 3 years old and it seems as though Skippers has been shut for about the same length of time. Quote
octavion Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 Willie fairly takes a battering lately Quote
Madbadteacher Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 It'll end up being the plaice to be! Quote
