Fraser will eventually prove to be the best young player ever discovered by Aberdeen. I know that is a bold statement to make about a 16-year-old who has only played a handful of first-team games but I believe I speak from a position of authority.

 

I played alongside Buchan, Arthur Graham, Miller and McLeish who are among the four greatest to come through the club's youth system.

 

I also saw the tremendous contribution made by the likes of John Hewitt, Eric Black, Neale Cooper and Neil Simpson and the emergence of Eoin Jess and Scott Booth.

 

But I am convinced young Fraser will eventually show he is better than the lot of them.

 

The lad will never win as many trophies with Aberdeen as Willie and Alex because, sadly, the game has changed so much. But I believe Fraser will go on to enjoy fame and fortune during the course of his career because he's Aberdeen's Rooney or Walcott.

 

He isn't a striker like these two so won't score lots of goals . However, he is no less a talent and will become a top-class midfielder for club and country.

 

He reminds me of Billy Bremner in a lot of ways and not because he has a crop of red hair. The boy battles for every ball and has the same competitive spirit that helped Billy get to the top.

 

It won't take Fyvie long to get there.

 

When someone of his age is brought into the first team you expect the older players to carry him but it has been the other way about.

 

His enthusiasm has helped get the best out of others around him. Fraseris fantastic to watch and Dons fans should grab every chance to do that while he is still here."

You'd think that Harper would know better, did you readthat in the metro BB?  Must admit from what I've seen of Fyvie he has all the makings of a top quality player but to compare him to the likes of Rooney, Bremner and Walcott aswell as mentioning him as potentially one of Aberdeens best players is a bit much. 

 

However, Fyvie strikes me as a clever kid that will keep his feet on the ground.

Whilst King Joey's analysis of Fyvie might well prove to be the correct one, it is far too early to make the call now. Initial signs in his five or six games appear to be very positive, but long long way to go.

 

Not wishing to fish or bait anyone, but does anyone think that Fyvie would have seen first team action yet if JC was still here

Was it not rumoured that, that was part of the agreement to get him to sign pro-terms?

 

Did he sign those before or after Jimmy left?

Baggy, apparently Fyvie was set to leave as Jimmy didn't even realise that he was on our books and wasn't dealing with his contract renewal. WM, worried and annoyed, stepped in and it was one of the falling outs between the pair. As I said, this is all speculation.

Not wanting to get into this argument, but I doubt he would be given much of a chance under the previous manager. I would have thought Kerr/McDonald would be pretty much undroppable and even if it was changed Duff or Young would have slotted in.

 

Too late, you're already in it ;) But yes, I agree with what you are saying. JC certainly seemed to play certain player irrespective of form. Young due to his "good to have around the place" attitude certainly would still be a starter. But it is all if's, but's and maybe's. JC did play Pawlett and Paton towards the end of the season, but whether or not that was due to having very little choice is open to debate.

Maybe talking him up now isn't such a bad thing. That cock mccarthy was being linked with liverpool and real madrid at 16 while still in the 1st division. I doubt we'll still have Fyvie by the time he's 19/20 so may as well talk him up right from the off to boost the value (considering we'll end up accepting the first offer...whatever that turns out to be)

 

Obviously I'm just being pragmatic and/or cynical. Hopefully he's here winning the league for us 10 years in a row etc

Otherwise, we will get a couple of seasons from him and then lose him on a pre-contract for zip. Its a shitty situation that we probably have little control over.

This was only after he had been told of the board's annoyance that certain young players weren't being given a chance despite other coaches at the club telling the manager they were more than ready.

Do you really believe that the scouts at Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Villa etc are not aware of his talent without Joe Harper telling the world he'll be a better player than Willie Miller?  People in the game will be aware of exactly how good a prospect he is.
