Dodds was really struggling with us though, even by his standards.  Winters wasn't a bad player for us, not worth £700k but that wasn't Winters' fault.  This is always the transfer that is held up against Miller, I'd say letting Windass go for half of what we bought him for and replacing him with Nigel Pepper was far more criminal.

Nigel Pepper played only played a handful of games for us if i remember despit the £300k + transfer fee. His two claims to fame in his footballing career were his red card for us straight after coming off the bench and once playing for York city when they beat Man U 3-0

Winters cost us more than 700k when you think of what Dodds went to Rangers for. Making Winters technically a 2m player.

Not really. Very simplistic way of looking at things there. Dodds' goal scoring record at Tannadice was about 1 in 2, something he didn't have in his months leading up to his departure from Pittodrie.

8th of december 1998. The day the fuckwit quit.

Is the correct answer

If my memory serves me correctly it was off the back of a four goal pumping at Rugby Park.

Was it Miller that brought £8k a week Hignett to Pittodrie  ???

Yeah... brought in at the same time as Andy Dow and Mark Perry...  ::)

Remember winning the first two games of the season and Alex Miller came out and actually said "Don't get too excited, this won't last". And he fucking made sure of that, too.

Hignett was a good player.. in his 8 or so matches he had 3 really good games (Dundee, Celtic and huns away) the rest he was pretty ding including getting sent off at East End Park for a really petulant elbowing of some gimp from Dunfermline.

To be honest, if i was given the choice of having Hignett in the side or Eoin Jess, I'd pick Jess everytime.

Andy Dow, that one freak season aside, was pretty toilet.

He did bring in Jim Leighton

That was Aitken who brought Jim back was it not? As I think it was Leighton who recommended Miller to Milne!

As I stated Dodds scored 25 in 45 or 46 games. He was a goal scoring machine for united. I still think the money we paid must have had united laughing. Winters although not the worst was no better and I would say slightly worse than Dodds.

Pepper was an abomination. Here for roughly 2 years and played 14 or 15 games. The actual money paid for him was a joke but still not as bad as the winters deal in my eyes. The board actually sanctioning that deal was criminal as well.

Dow was a cult hero due to the fact that everyone around him was even worse than he was and that is saying something.

Hignett should have been different class what with the wages he was getting. Would actually have been good to get a full season out of him to be able to make a real judgement on him.

Didn't Hignett leave because his family refused to move up here?

Had a bairn down south and used to head off to see it post every match.

Dinnae think that mother of said bairn and him were still an item

True but many think that was an excuse and he simply realised what a monumental mistake he made signing for us. Me included.

Seem to remember he was going through a divorce at the time and couldn't get to see his kids. He wanted to move closer to them.

I have a memory that Hignett was supposedly on £7k a week with us. I also have in my head that we were a bargaining chip with 'boro that backfired, and he spent most of his time here trying to get away. Did he not give out about Millers coaching methods after he left?

Was Miller not recommended to Milne by Craig Brown?

I don't believe Hignett evre wanted to come to Scotland...certainly appeared like that in most of the games I saw him play. My mates all reckoned as soon as he saw no "glory" up here he was spitting out the dummy.
