tom_widdows
Dodds was really struggling with us though, even by his standards. Winters wasn't a bad player for us, not worth £700k but that wasn't Winters' fault. This is always the transfer that is held up against Miller, I'd say letting Windass go for half of what we bought him for and replacing him with Nigel Pepper was far more criminal. I think it would have been slightly less painful if dodds hadnt scored a hat trick in his last game for us (league cup away to caley thistle). He then scored a hat trick in his first game for united against st johnstone. Meanwhile we had to wait until the 2nd week of december for winters to get his first goal for us (header which Rousett managed to break the goals trying to keep out, followed up by Eoin Jess scoring a second with a run from the halfway line.) Believe we missed a penalty in that game too.

And then of course when he first joined, he was partnering Jim Hamilton up front... If people thought Winters was the same type of player as Dodds when he signed then they would have been pretty foolish.
minijc
Niall, you starting to get a feel for the lack of warmth towards Miller yet Haha, I never realised how much people despise the guy, obviously heard he done us up the wrong way but diodn't realise he was this much of a cunt, I'll take the chance to apologise to everyone, especially Bobby biscuits for bringing this up. You're not alone. Niall has that effect on everyone.
tom_widdows
Actually we didnt sign Hamilton until March 1999. Winters came along in September 1998. Ive no idea who winters was upfront with (Only other attacking players I can think of were Jess and Darren Young) We all knew winters was a different type of player which was why, over in the highlands myself and the few local dons fans were quite looking forward to the winters Dodds partnership. BobbyBiscuit
Could have sworn he was there sooner. Darren Young wouldn't have been playing up front, though. Dennis Wyness for a bit, possibly.
Reekie_Red
I was genuinely excited when we signed Hignett. The thought of him, Jess and a fully-fit Paul Bernard as our midfield was mouthwatering. And Hignett's first two games for the Dons gave me one of the most impressive displays I've ever seen from an Aberdeen player. He danced around Celtic and Dundee like they weren't there. Then Miller stopped allowing Hignett to travel down to Merseyside every week to see his son, so Hignett spat the dummy and just stopped playing for us. Cannae really blame Hignett for that, really! What fucked me off the most about Miller was how perilous a situation AFC was in, and we'd see him on the back page of the papers laughing away whilst sunning himself with the Scotland squad. Absolute fucktard of the highest order

Wasn't Hamilton a £250K or £300K signing by the glorified caretaker Paul Hegarty? And people wonder how we ended up £10 million in debt . Winters partner was the disinterested virtually immobile Mike Newell was it not we certainly paid a fee for him too (£150K and I think another Miller signing or does Aitken win that accolade?). Mentorred
Happy Miller day folks: Friday 21st November 1997 Alex Miller's ill-fated spell in charge of Aberdeen began when he was unveiled as the new Aberdeen manager at Pittodrie. Several supporters groups had questioned the appointment as Miller had gained a reputation of being defensive in his approach. Those fears were realised some 12 months later as Miller was sacked after a series of poor results and questionable signings. Among those was that of Craig Hignett who was reported to be the highest earner at the club, picking up in excess of £8,000 per week. Miller later joined Liverpool as a scout and latterly assisted Rafael Benitez at Anfield. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday 21st November 1931 A debut for Aberdeen's Matt Armstrong as the youngster earned a quick promotion to the first team in the aftermath of the 'Great Mystery' betting scandal. Armstrong played in the Black & Golds' 0-3 defeat at Brockville in a side that showed several changes with five of the Aberdeen side being implicated in the scandal; they were never to play for the club again. I met Matt when my mum nursed him in the last few years of his life, He told me he got a 1 pound bonus for scoring against Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final.
