Scottish Premiership - Kilmarnock v Aberdeen

Looks pretty certain he'll be away in the summer then. I think ICT is about his level to be fair.

Suppose it could be sooner than that.

Maybe this months loan is an extended trial of sorts and they could sign him in January.

Bottom line without being overly harsh is that he isn't good enough for us, but he has still lived the dream we'd all like to have by playing for the team you support

To be remembered for supplying Nade with a tap-in on his debut and starring as a centre back in The Sigma Massacre...

Agree with both of these. Nice guy though, wish him all the best (until he scores against us) in the future!

Fair play, it was a cracking finish. Hopefully he is replaced adequately.

And a cracking assist!

A jack of all trades, master on none. A poor mans Chris Clarke if you will.

But all the best to him, no doubt given 100% everytime he played.

Started today for ICT. I really didn't mind Duff, very much in the same way I didn't mind Lee Mair. Didn't want them in the first XI every week, but adequate squad players for us.

Not that I'm losing any sleep over either, right enough...

Does this mean that we may, in theory see more players shipped out on a short term basis in order to keep thier fitness levels up and match sharp with not having a reserve league.  Another point about no reserves-how are fringe players meant to prove they have come into a bit of form in order to be considered for the first team?

Are the SFA hell bent on desrtoying the game?

Duff to miss Inverness game as McGhee does not want him cup-tied

Published: 05/01/2010

LOAN midfielder Stuart Duff will not play for Caley Thistle against Motherwell in Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie in Inverness as Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee does not want the player cup-tied.

Duff is due to return to Pittodrie next week.

McGhee said: “Stuart wanted to go to Inverness for the month as he felt he was needing games under his belt and, with no reserve league, we agreed to let him go to get some match practice.

“He agreed to go there on the assumption he would be returning here at the end of the spell and that’s why I will be speaking to Terry Butcher about him this week.

“If Terry wants to take matters further it is up to him but, as it stands, Stuart will be returning to us.

“In that event I will not allow him to play in the Scottish Cup for Inverness.â€

Duff, 27, has been an ever-present for Inverness since joining the Highlanders on loan from the Dons, playing in all three games for the club.

The 1-1 draw against Dundee on Boxing Day looks likely to be his last appearance for the club, however, after the postponement of the Highland derby against Ross County.

Clubs pushed for the reserve league to be scrapped not the SFA or SPL so as they could save money.

CALEY Thistle manager Terry Butcher is hoping to persuade Aberdeen counterpart Mark McGhee to extend Stuart Duff’s one-month loan.

Duff is set to return to Pittodrie next week but Butcher spoke to McGhee on Monday about keeping the 27-year-old for longer and the pair will hold further talks.

The former Dundee United utility player has started three games for Caley Thistle – against Raith Rovers, Dunfermline and Dundee – and was on the fringes of McGhee’s first-team squad.

Butcher has been impressed with the ease at which Duff has settled and has been pleased with his performances for the Highland club.

Butcher knows Aberdeen might require Duff as cover for the rest of the campaign.

He said: “His contract is up at the end of the season and Aberdeen do not have the biggest of squads.

“They will be looking at themselves first and seeing what they can do for us afterwards.

“He is a good squad player for Aberdeen and has played for them on a fairly regular basis in the past. We can only take him for another two months if we take it on a month-by-month basis.

“It would take us up to March, but ideally we would like him to be here for the rest of the season. His loan period expires on Sunday and I will be speaking to Mark McGhee before then.â€

I think it makes sense to let him go for the rest of the season if his contract is running out. We're unlikely to renew it. And it means we can take someone else like Marshall in who's running out of contract on a 'try before you sign' basis. I'd assume there's a few young-ish players out there not quite good enough to break into Premiership first teams but could do a job for us.
