Ruling clears obstacles on route to bypass – by 2017

Drivers could be on Aberdeen’s long-awaited bypass by 2017 after a judge cleared the way for the road to be built.

 

The legal challenge which has held up the city’s Western Peripheral Route was dismissed at the Court of Session yesterday.

 

The decision was met with relief by First Minister Alex Salmond and business leaders, who said the north-east’s congestion nightmare would soon be over.

I guess because a big road like that takes a while to build? Although I don't know enough about building roads to know how long it should take.

 

My guess is they're still scrutinising the route to see where else they can stick some round-abouts, traffic lights, 20 mph zones and zebra crossings to make the road as much of a PITA in the ass to negotiate as possible. See every other fucking road in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire as reference.  :hammer:

It depends, but one thing for sure is that it'll take a fuck longer if they never start building the fucker.

If its not in the central belt then it doesnt need to be done properly. THiss NEEDS to be a proper  upgrade to a motorway or it just wont work.  If this is the case then Aberdeen as per usual when major ifrastructure projects are dished out get second best.  A petition needs to happen to get a REAL WPR which is both useful and safe. Edinburgh or Galsgow wouldnt tolerate second best.

 

They've done such a good job at castlecary that I no longer have an On ramp. Shambles with no concern for public convenience or safety. A few thousand extra cars through castlecary village twice a day must have them singing the praises of this fantastic construction work !!

THE chairman of Aberdeen bypass campaigners RoadSense has defended the group’s stance.

 

William Walton  :wanker: of RoadSense is set to challenge the planned Aberdeen bypass in the courts again, which means it might not be ready until nearer 2018.

 

William Walton said: “Our group is not necessarily opposed to a bypass in principle. We take the view that this particular route is going to be hugely expensive and is not a good use of public resources.”

But repeatedly dragging the council through the court and delaying the project, thus inevitably increasing the overall cost is a good use of public resources?

Of course this has nothing to do with Nimbyism at all  ::)
