Aberdeen bypass Supreme Court ruling due on 17 October

Campaigners opposed to the Aberdeen bypass are set to learn the fate of their appeal to the UK's Supreme Court next week, it has been announced.

A two-day hearing was earlier held at the Supreme court in London.

The judgement will be given next Wednesday at 09:45.

Campaign group Road Sense's spokesman William Walton previously said judges could decide to seek an assessment from the European Court of Justice.

Business leaders and several politicians have been critical of the number of legal delays to the road, saying it is vital for the north east of Scotland's economy.

The 28-mile road was given the go-ahead by Scottish ministers in 2009.

Defeat in this latest appeal will almost certainly allow the £400m Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) to go ahead.

They will then go off the the European Court of Human Rights.

you know the one don't you?  Originally set up to make sure people dont suffer such things as slavery or the holocaust etc but now seems to be filled with cases about people wanting to play their music as loud as they want, or to have their kid educated in a school 500miles away from their house but have the tax payer pay for their kids transport and lodgings.

The bypass will be finished at the same time as the A9 is Dualled...... :tumbleweed:

Surely to fuck that's the end of his appeal now.  :hammer:

I would refer you to

and the following.

A RoadSense spokesperson said: "Subject to advice from our lawyers, this would seem to bring to an end our attempts to overthrow the Minister's decision to approve the AWPR through the courts."

Hello Mr & Mrs Lawyer. By any chance can we waste more of everyones time in return for paying you lots of fees?

I highly doubt its over.

The cost of the Aberdeen bypass has risen to an estimated £653m, it has been revealed.

The 28-mile road - previously predicted to cost £347m - was given the green light by Scottish ministers in 2009, but was delayed by legal action.

Protesters lost their appeal to the Supreme Court earlier this month.

Transport Minister Keith Brown said the "unwanted delays" had resulted in a "substantial increase" in the overall cost of the project.

It is anticipated that construction will get under way in 2014, with completion by spring 2018.

In answer to a parliamentary question lodged by Aberdeen Central SNP MSP Kevin Stewart, Mr Brown said the scheme had been costed at £347m in 2008 - an estimate based on 2003 prices.

He said that the figure had now risen to £653m as a result of "scope changes, the inclusion of standard risk costs and rebasing to 2012 prices".

Mr Brown said inflation had been responsible for a £230m increase in the cost.

A scheme to make the A90 a dual carriageway between Balmedie and Tipperty in Aberdeenshire is also expected to cost £92m, giving a total of £745m for the combined project.

Building a tunnel from the south of Aberdeen would be less disruptive and more effective than the planned bypass, it has been claimed.

Deputy leader of Aberdeen City Council, Marie Boulton, an Independent, has written to the transport secretary outlining plans for the link.

It would run underground from the A90 Aberdeen to Stonehaven road into the Lang Stracht and Hazlehead area.

Opposition councillors have dismissed the idea.

Ms Boulton said it could solve many problems, with one of the advantages being no snow clearing.

The 28-mile Aberdeen bypass was given the green light by Scottish ministers in 2009, but was delayed by legal action.

Previously predicted to cost £347m, that has risen to more than £650m.

It is expected to be completed in 2018.

Where do the council get these preposterous ideas from?  Utter clowns.

It depresses me that as i get older it becomes more and more apparent that there are people in power ie local government and above who actually have no common sense or concept of how anything is built.

Mind you the old channel tunnel was pretty straight forward and cheap was'nt it  :hammer:

The Hindhead Tunnel just appeared overnight too  :hammer:

Folk have voted for these clowns and so far:

-Union terrace gardens redevelopment binned (pros and cons to that one admittedly)

-Dons new stadium on hold

-Suggestions of moving the exhibition centre to one of the most congested areas of Aberdeen (Dyce)

-Building a tunnel under a huge part of the City
