1713: Aberdeen have secured the signature of striker Steven MacLean from Plymouth Argyle. He will join up at Pittodrie on loan until the end of the season.

ABERDEEN FC have tonight (Monday) completed the double capture of Plymouth Argyle pair Steve MacLean and Jim Paterson. Both players have signed on loan at Pittodrie until the end of the season.

Striker, MacLean, joined Argyle in 2008 after a spell at Cardiff City. Having started his career at Rangers, he also enjoyed spells at Scunthorpe United and Sheffield Wednesday.

Paterson, who can operate at left back or left midfield, played over 100 games for Dundee United and Motherwell before moving south in 2008.

Both players go straight in to the squad for tomorrow night's Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League game with Falkirk at Pittodrie.

Both loan moves though :hammer: Thought we were 500 grand up FFS

Suppose it's better not to waste £500k (if that is really how much we got) on panic buys.  Two decent stop gap signings.  If they do a job we might be able to keep hold of them.  If not then nothing lost and we have the best part of £500k to spend in the summer.

While I am pleased to have McLean on board its not a move for the future, its only really trying to shore up this season.

Scenario 1: He puts in a great performance over the next 4 months and gets a better offer in the summer. Best we can hope for is that he sees us as a shop window and lights up the rest of this season.

Scenario 2: HE turns out to be horse and we look to offload him or worse, offer him a deal because he is the best we can get. Best we can hope for there is to cut our losses after a dull and disappointing end to the season. Back to the drawing board.

Scenario 3: He takes time to settle and play reasonably OK but fails to attract any interest from bigger, richer clubs. He then goes on to sign for us and sets the SPL alight next season.

Scenario 3 is the only outcome that will give us some long term prospect but it depends on us giving up on any progress this season so we can 'hide' McLeans talent in an average peformance.

Fucking hate loan deals.  >:D
